Dance has always been a big part of who I am. It occupied my entire teen years and brought me some of the greatest relationships and friendships that later turned into business partnerships. My lady and I connect so well through dance. I think it's one of the big reasons why she digs me. That and I'm a pretty awesome chef. 👨🏼‍🍳
Marketing is more about building relationships and connections in order to create long term growth for a brand and continued sustainability. A loyal costumer will bring you more revenue than any one new customer. So treat every interaction as if it were a crucial stepping stone towards more opportunities. That one loyal fan will bring you 5 more of their friends to your shows, talk about you constantly to all of their friends, and become your brand ambassador. Once you see the lifetime value of each fan it will change the way you see relationships.
A great way to establish a connection is by simply talking to your audience and actually engaging with them. This doesn't just mean in person, but through comments, messages, etc. Say thanks and reply back to their questions. Build this habit and over time you'll see your fan base grow and notice an increase in loyalty. #musicbusiness #musicindustry #marketing #letsdanceformentalhealth

I’ve failed too many times to count. I’ve been playing piano for 27 years. Picked up a guitar when I was 9. Got introduced to the Hip Hop culture through dance at 13. I traveled and competed all over the US during high school. At 19 I was on So You Think You Can Dance Season 1. Disappointed my parents by not being an engineer and went to school to study cars after high school. Built a sturdy 7 year career in the Automotive Industry and quit my positions twice to pursue music. After work I would spend hours teaching myself music production, sleep for 4 hours, go back to work, and then do it all again. I spent my 21st birthday locked in my home studio making sure I finished making instrumentals for MTV and VH1. I taught myself about design, marketing, and music business out of necessity. My partner @omarkadir and I didn’t have the funds to hire marketers, so we had to figure things out on our own. Now, I do a bunch of stuff that’s sometimes hard to keep track of and would die without my calendar and notes apps. I live on my phone and laptop. But, I enjoy EVERY SINGLE day, every piece of stress, and every annoying email. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Your story is a peek into you as a normal ass human being. It’s what differentiates you as a music artist. It’s what allows you to build a sustainable and long lived career. Your audience needs something more than just your music to connect with. Social media is the bridge that allows you to build relationships that will support the longevity in your career. Your story is on one end, your audience on the opposite end, and your social platforms are what connect the two.
I talk about building a story because that’s what my marketing strategies are all based off of. I can bring thousands of eyes onto your story, but it’s up to you to get those people to stick around. I can’t make you interesting. There are only so many things that I can manipulate, but creating a reason why your audience should pay attention to you is out of my control. Fame is pain and ain’t no gains without the pain. #musicbusiness #musicindustry #musicmarketing

CAREER TIPS: What is special about you? Why should I pay attention to you? The climate of the music industry is changing. A long term career in the industry sometimes means looking for opportunities to monetize your brand rather than solely focused on music sales for revenue.
By creating experiences it allows you to create deeper connections with your audience which leads fans down the road to becoming a loyal follower. Experiences are ideas that allow insight into your overall story.
If you can create experiences specifically tailored to your musical craft and leverage your musical talent then all the better. Like how William Singe specifically tailors his cover videos as if he's creating the song right in front of you and chooses charting songs for his covers.
If you have to venture into other aspects of your brand make sure to stay within your lane and keep it authentic to you. Don't be doing prank videos just because people like watching prank videos. You'll be attracting the wrong audience. Think otherwise? Try it and then post something about your music afterwards.... I'll wait... that's right. No one pays attention or gives two shits about your music.
What matters most is an authentic story that shows who you are and what your brand represents. Try this and then I'll explain what you can do with that story. #musicbusiness #musicmarketing #musicindustry

CAREER TIPS: Authentic purpose. Marketing, branding, and business are more about the relationships you have with people rather than it solely being focused on the product or service. Authenticity in your story equals a deeper connection with your audience leading to a trusted relationship, loyalty and creation of super fans. What's your story and what is it about your brand that can stand out from all the noise? Think on a brand level and not just what differentiates your music from the next song. #musicbusiness #musicindustry
Mine? I just want to help people do dope sh*t. I don't aspire to be the top individual in my field. I prefer to be the right hand man that helped get that individual to the top and achieve great things.
That's why I've gone from a volunteer at @putnamclubhouse to a board member. I believe in the Clubhouse's mission in the mental health community and the support they provide for individuals with mental health conditions. My lady @holladala and I started this campaign to help bring awareness to that mission and to encourage the positive impact that physical activity has on mental health conditions. Plus we like to dance. Haha. 🕺🏽💃🏻 Oh yea... that's my remix. 😎 Peep the SoundCloud link in my bio. #letsdanceformentalhealth

I'm very fortunate to have worked on so many different music production and marketing projects with some amazing people. A lot of what's in my head is beneficial for music artists, producers, brands, and even small businesses. I want to help people do great things. This is just a platform to help get me to that goal. #musicindustry #musicbusiness #marketing

Songwriters will usually sing a whole bunch of gibberish to find the right melodies. Then we take those melodies and replace the gibberish with actual words that make full sentences and hopefully make sense. Then we record the vocals, get frustrated that the song didn't come out like we hoped, re-record, re-make the instrumental, get the song mixed and mastered, put together a marketing plan, release the song, execute the marketing plan, and do it all again. By the end of the whole process we usually hate the song already because of how many times we had to listen to it. Haha. 😑 #musicproducer #songwriter

Any dancer that says they can't dance because they're not wearing the right shoes, the floor isn't made for dancing or they don't have their dancing clothes just stop right there. All a dancer needs is a soul clap and some energy. 👏🏼 Oh yea... I remixed @frenchmontana 's unforgettable and sat on the finished track for 3 weeks. Finally decided to upload it. 😎😎 #unforgettable

i can’t wait until we’re driving around listening to our own music. i can’t wait until we have our own studio away from our homes. i can’t wait until we’re just doing music all day every day. these were things that @omarkadir and i would tell each other constantly for over 10 years. we're very fortunate to say that we've done all of that. thanks brotha for never stopping and big ups to the team that helped put all the pieces together! @bigwali925 @m1promo @justvisionz @louiedafourth @narekambar @richardvalenciadp i can’t wait until we’re 90 years old looking back at what we did and saying “damn… i don’t regret one thing.” cheers to new partnerships, new opportunities, and the road ahead! #thirdnaturemusic
The "I'm about to drop the hottest mixtape of 2017" photo. Because I'm about to drop the hottest mixtape of 2017. J/k no I'm not. But @omarkadir has some amazing singles lined up cause we don't do anything else with our lives except sit in the studio and occasionally sleep. #musicproducer #thirdnaturemusic

Phuket Thailand. This is the villa that we called home and also turned into a film set. Years ago @omarkadir and I shot our first music video to our first single called “I Need Her”. You’re not going to find it anywhere so don’t try and look. haha. We planned, filmed, and edited everything. We rented a Sony HD Camcorder, bought a bootleg version of Final Cut Studio, mapped out the whole storyline, spent two days filming, and a week editing the video.
We have always worn multiple hats throughout the years. If we needed something we would sit down and figure out how to do it. Nothing was ever out of reach. Website? No problem. We learned to code and create layouts. Mixing and Mastering? Sure. Let’s read some books, watch some videos, and spend hours with trial and error to get it done. Marketing? No idea. But we’ll figure it out.
We spent 10 days in Thailand with our team and a talented film crew. We hit 2 cities, shot 2 music videos, and created amazing memories. We’re very fortunate to have people in place who specialize in certain things. We no longer have to wear so many hats.
Big ups to @omarkadir and @bigwali925 for pushing to make this trip happen, @richardvalencia and the crew, @m1promo for being the one and only John Costen, and to the rest of the team. @louiedaforth @justvisionz @narekambar Thank you all for letting me be a part of a dope ass team. #thirdnature
