Such a special time of year to be outdoors. What an inspiration the UK starlings are welcoming their European friends and settling down to roost together during the coming cold months.

Each weekend we slowly increase our miles without our three year old noticing. The trick is to tell long stories about dragons & bring snacks!

Witnessing our son turn from baby to toddler has been fascinating. I have to admit I wasn't expecting his sense of humour to develop so quickly. Recently he pranked me by lying still in his bed when I went to wake him. Slightly concerned, I went up very close to his face, at which point he jumped up & shouted booo! 😳

Each day we are treated to big #yorkshire sunrises. The light fills our home casting shadows & rainbows throughout. --
"Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. ... There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature — the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter."
~Rachel Carson, Silent Spring

I have a Whats App group with my mum & sister which contains 80% weather / seasonal photographs. The other day we all took a photo of the same rainbow from three different locations & sent them to each other. I love this about us.
When you see an amazing rainbow or witness a sepia sky who do you tell?

The day where our son gets to choose what we do. Walk on the moors, visit the library, cake at the 'grown up cafe', canal boat trip or stay home & play trains. He gets to decide. Feel so lucky to have this day together & #workthatworks

Him - climbing, jumping, hiding.
Me - anxious, chasing, shouting 'stop'.
I imagined I would be a run free & wild type of parent. But it's so difficult to let them go solo. I guess I'm not as fearless as I thought.

Dear Friend,
Stand Tall and Proud
Sink your roots deeply into the Earth
Reflect the light of a greater source
Think long term
Go out on a limb
Remember your place among all living beings
Embrace with joy the changing seasons
For each yields its own abundance
The Energy and Birth of Spring
The Growth and Contentment of Summer
The Wisdom to let go of leaves in the Fall
The Rest and Quiet Renewal of Winter
Feel the wind and the sun
And delight in their presence
Look up at the moon that shines down upon you
And the mystery of the stars at night.
Seek nourishment from the good things in life
Simple pleasures
Earth, fresh air, light
Be content with your natural beauty
Drink plenty of water
Let your limbs sway and dance in the breezes
Be flexible
Remember your roots
Enjoy the view!

I am not a competitive person. But there is something special about being the first person to arrive at a beach. Tide going out, sand refreshed & pebbles still shining. Sometimes you are even lucky enough to make the first prints in the sand.

Our toddler does not like sitting still. Travelling had become less about adventure & more about gritting our teeth. Then we had a rethink - we began planning our trips to include plenty of stops along the way. We are seeing corners of the country we would usually have whizzed by.
Farm shops, @nationaltrust, @RSPBNews, @WildlifeTrusts are fantastic for kids to explore & often do great cake! We might not be covering the miles we used to but have to admit the journey brings its own rewards. ⠀
