2 Moon
The sky is dark tonight during the new moon in Capricorn, but the moon shines on, reflecting light from a place we cannot see.
My body is pulsing slowly, ripe with seeds for planting. The garden is fertile ….
I’ve shared this video from October’s new moon because lately I’ve been asked to drop down, lean in and listen. Today’s dance didn’t need to be recorded. Today I’m basking in the light I cannot see that is charging within me. I’m making plans and making even more space in those plans for improvisation and for totally unexpected processes and results. I’m conserving energy and watching my fingers dance in gestures of the felt sense while my ribcage billows up and out, allowing me to catch my breath.
And I’m also thrashing around in a dance class and singing at the top of my lungs in the car to Lady Gaga, the Strokes, Sting (even though I only know the lyrics to “Desert Rose,” let’s be real) and whoever else comes on the radio and I’m going to the grocery store and I'm laughing at movies from the early 2000s, cuz sometimes I tend to make sh*t too heavy and have to take a step back.
So let’s all take a step back and engage in the process of visualizing and creating without forgetting where we are. Happy new moon in Capricorn, happy Tuesday, happy Happy Hour, lovers!
Track: “I am Light” by India Arie
We’re programmed to feel like when January hits, it’s time to release, reset, transform and recover from the previous year and, usually, from the holidays. We often approach it with ferocity and aggression: Time to shed those holiday pounds! Dive into those resolutions! Purge what doesn’t serve! USE LOTS OF EXCLAMATION POINTS AND ALL CAPS! And document what you’re transforming!!!
In reality, we made that pressure cooker up when we created the Gregorian calendar and built productivity models as well as entire systems around it. Truthfully, we can actually begin anew in any given moment. And we don’t have to dive into a new calendar year pumped up and ready to feel shiny and new. And we don’t have to make resolutions, which are often inherently results based and limited to a specific outcome.
So here's an alternative to the aggression of change that comes with this time of year:
Being with ourselves and with others, focusing on our intentions, actions and the now - aware of the processes we are undergoing and the actions we are taking. We don’t have to get distracted by stories of inadequacy, by extensive self-evaluation, or by pressures to change or produce a new result. It doesn’t have to be all #newyearnewyou . It can just be you. It can just be now.
in that place
between words
on a quiet canvas of movement and transmission
with the tumult of her waves, she’s wresting
what I’ve covered,
demanding that I
take a bath in the stories
so the
from the cala lilies
are no longer murmurs.
pure and white,
soft, delicate
dramatic and erotic.
I’ll hold them to my womb
I’ll accept this medicine.
I’ll come clean.
let the blood pour out
the pain revive
and I’ll turn up for sunset
and sunrise,
ready for more.
my bones drenched and my dreams relentless
let’s not make sense of this.
let’s let the corporeal become the real and the language of the sensuous flow
before we
hurry to the redwoods,
ensure we’re here.
grounding down and rooting up.
as above so below.

I’m going to begin counting my currency in these moments of sand dollar finds, soul sister chats, fish tacos, beachside walks, laughing at ourselves, crab dancing, using an array of funny accents, singing loudly to Fleetwood Mack and Tracy Chapman, giggle fests while snuggling with a @peepsbrand pillow and being unable to function in stores with excessive amounts of fluorescent lighting and refusing to purchase “all natural” marshmallows for our s’mores (cuz really Whole Foods, all natural marshmallows?!?!), recalling all that we’ve come through and celebrating all that we are and that’s just been the last 12 hours with @caityflanagan ... well shuck, looks like I’m rich!

After what’s been a whirlwind week and a half of travel, holiday prep and Christmas celebrations with friends and family, the past few days have felt like an epic holiday hangover. As I’ve been catching up on sleep and sanity before heading to the airport again, I’ve been cataloguing a guide on how to maintain wholeness amidst the jingle-jingle and end-of-year-countdown a bit better:
• Practice what is sacred to you.
• Feed yourself with warm baths, cool breezes, big bear hugs, and deep belly laughs.
• Be a curious listener.
• Have an open heart and strong boundaries (always).
• Real talk: your body is an f-ing temple.
• Give as much to yourself as you do to others.
• Honor where you came from while respecting where you are.
• It’s ok to say “no” and it can be a complete sentence.
• Remember that time is something we created to contribute to an illusion of order and control.
• There are many parts that make up your whole just as you are one part of another whole.
• Pause. Breathe. Observe. Love. Repeat.

Tis the season ... for l-o-v-e! All days and all ways. Enjoy reconnecting with your loved ones and make sure to hug yourself many, many times amidst the holiday hullabaloo! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

"Let there be an opening into the quiet that lies beneath the chaos, where you find the peace you did not think possible and see what shimmers within the storm'' - John O' Donoghue

This quote felt appropriate to share for so many reasons: the holiday season, the ups and downs of being with family, travel, the final days of a hell of a 2017, Saturn leaving Sagittarius after nearly 3 years of fully testing us and inviting us to mature and commit... I could go on. I could offer background on this place and this photo and what was happening in my life then and all the way up to 5 minutes ago. But I won’t add to the chaos, the noise, the stories.

Instead, I want you to put your hand on your heart and breathe. Feel your rib cage billow out as the breath cascades down from your lungs and swirls through down into your belly. Close your eyes.

Forget where you’ve been. Forget where you’re going.
Look around.
What do you see?
Allow the stillness.
Allow the space.
Allow the feelings.
What’s possible here?

Ladies and gentlemen, THIS. IS. 30.
...And it looks totally different than I thought it would. Granted the view from this peak that served as my dancing platform during my snowy sunrise hike is pretty damn good. Sometimes, I’m so busy looking forward that I forget where I’ve been, so in lieu of making a list of intentions for my next trip around the sun, I wrote myself a little note to celebrate what I’ve done this past year, cuz oh lawdy it’s been full of growth. Here’s the note in its unpolished glory. Maybe there’s something in there that resonates with you. If not, at least enjoy the background music.
Hello, beautiful. Today you turn 30. Good f-ing job. And hot damn, you have achieved so much in the past year. You have conquered so many fears. You have opened your heart. Closed it. Chased dreams. Rerouted. Started over. And over. And over. Redefined what home meant. Honored what your priorities are. Taken a good hard look at where you’re operating from the “should” place vs true desire. Learned to speak your truth. Learned to stand up for yourself. Learned to make room for others. Learned that the most important relationship you have is the one with yourself. Period. Learned to lean on others. Learned that you can’t do it alone (and also that you’re never alone).
You’ve stopped protecting others’ feelings and opted instead for honesty, presence and connection in the now. You’re continuously working on not taking things personally. You’re loving yourself deeper, fuller, harder everyday. Your body - that’s something that’s becoming so sacred you can’t help but love it shamelessly. You married yourself and entered a true relationship and partnership. You walk that path everyday, knowing that it’s an ongoing effort. You’ve fallen many times and picked yourself up again and again. You’ve stopped calculating so much. You’ve released that fierce controlling grip on life a bit. You’ve removed the training wheels. You've taken yourself from a Type A to a Type A-. You’ve danced. Oh lord, have you danced. You’ve learned not to ignore your intuition (and you’ve observed what happens when you do). And each day
My heart is a little more open
My walls are a little more broken
My agenda is a little more obscured
My presence is a little more felt
And my freedom is a little more accessible
Starting over always invites me to dive a little deeper into the watery expanse of my being. Sometimes this idea of “starting over” takes on considerably more weight in our minds, like when it involves following your intuition to move to a place you’ve never even been, leaving a lover, becoming a mother, recovering from an injury or an illness or quitting a secure job. But the more I wade through these waters, the more I recognize that really, we get to start over every day and in every moment. Actually, we don’t even have to start or redo anything. We just get to be. Everything is a continuation, including the human race and the experiences that make up our lives. The more waterlogged we get in our thoughts and in the weight and morality we assign things, the more we lose our bearings, dislodge our perspectives, close ourselves and separate.
So here’s to being alive and swimming in that freedom with an open heart, recognizing that we are welcome to be in each second, whisper, blink or stroke. And also enjoying the new mermaid and merman emojis that I’m sure Apple created to support this exact post 🧜‍♀️ 🧜🏻‍♂️

I exist somewhere between the profound and the profane
Something wild that can't be tamed
One part lady, 3 parts lioness
There's room for more than one of us in this dress
Like the empress in her new clothes
Examine what I'd previously left unexposed
Feeling into my ferocity and the myriad of my wild femininity lately. Sitting here journaling today about the difference between the shoulds and my actual desires. Letting my body be a guide to feel at a somatic and soul level what has resonance. Trying not to rush the revelations while recognizing where I'm stalling. This is the body prayer today.

"If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough." - Meister Eckhart
After celebrating Thanksgiving, nature, new friends, new territory (Wyoming!), new adventures (rock climbing!) and new chapters these past few days, this prayer is on repeat. Feeling so full and so open. This is the stuff that life is made of.

And this is my "Made it to the Mountains" dance 🏔🗻⛰
Everyday, I'm landing here a little more. I'm exploring the tensions that reside in my body and the stories of fear, of not belonging and of being unsafe. When I dance, I can become intimate with those narratives and observe how they become sensations in my body and direct the way I move through the world. Sometimes, I like to keep this private and not record a video, but at other times, these videos are a great tool for me to see very obviously where I'm tight and moving in a constrained and controlled way.
I want to encourage and challenge you to engage in whatever form of intuitive movement calls to you and record yourself. Watching yourself can be very triggering in many ways: feelings of worthiness, fear of being seen or witnessed, self-judgement about your appearance or movement may come up. But I promise, you have the stamina. And you are already whole, healed and complete. Plus, you've got the new moon in Scorpio energy behind you! Check out @chaninicholas 's always insightful words on this new moon cycle to learn how to work with the undercurrents that are present. ::

Sage ya later, NYC 👋🏽🗽❤️🌱
You held me as I wandered back to you, tired and confused. Sure, it was a tight and intense embrace (like only you can offer), but still, you welcomed me. You helped me to remove the illusion of separation and to reconnect with my family, friends, community and myself. You had me question who I had become and remember who I am. You drove me bat sh*t crazy and really tested my nervous system. And I am so thankful for all of it, especially for the people who make you what you are. Don't worry, I'll be back for you, probably to 💃

Ahhh the great, rhythmic body! Come explore it with me tomorrow in my last yoga class in NYC before I head westward! Join me at @douyogabrooklyn 1-2:15pm. We'll invite some intuitive movement into our practice as we get into conversation and connection with the body.
It's pay what you wish, so come one, come all! Side note: smiles and gluten-free dumplings are completely acceptable forms of currency.

Strutting into the weekend like woah. Actually, pretty sure we filmed this on a Wednesday, so really, strutting into any evening like this. @corinnemargo gets it.
