#tbt When I lived in New York, I used to write music on the subway. It was an hour of uninterrupted writing time with my headphones on where I had nothing else to do traveling between Brooklyn and Manhattan for work. It's a savage place down there in the underground but you can learn a lot about human nature just by looking up once and a while. That was always a good environment for writing even if it wasn't always the best environment for waiting.

#tbt Sometimes you have to walk through the fire to burn away the fear. Fear of rejection, humiliation, and failure are universal obstacles on the journey of growth. Identify the obstacles and face them head on. You don't grow by doing the same old things and playing it safe. Ignis aurum probat, fire tests gold. 💪🏻🔥🏅

#tbt to the 99th performance of 'The 100 Days Tour' in the New York City Subway and Times Square. One thing I never really had the cajones to do during my time in New York was busk (aka Street Performing). One time @burgishere tried to get me to sing in Times Square but the fear of rejection/humiliation of thousands of tourists not paying attention or videoing with their iPhones and requesting top 40 songs I didn't know made me freeze up. I knew that on my return to New York City this was something I would have to make myself do. It was the final hurdle before the hundredth show. My good friend @nekopeoples was kind enough to photograph it and offer moral support. After spending some time above ground, overweight Spiderman and (a hooker?) got in a brawl which put a damper on the magic. So we moved down into the Subway where the acoustics were better and I started to play... then the strangest thing happened... people stopped to listen...

In my mom's past life either she did terrible things or the stork that delivered us to her was just a grade A asshole. 🚬🐓 The girliest person I know was fated to give birth to a fraternity. Despite what she was given though, she sure did a hell of a job. Here's a consolation prize, all five of us together *not* making ugly faces. You're welcome, mom.

Social Media 101. Always name drop and brag about the famous people you know. Like this, "My little brother @maxlanman is famous and I know him." This guy shot a professional car commercial for his fiancé's used 1996 Honda Accord, slapped it up on Youtube and put out a public offer for $499. Well, it went viral. He was on the BBC, Good Morning America and written up in countless other outlets for this ingenious marketing move to sell a beloved, but fairly worthless car named "Greenie". After Ebay bids climbed to $150,000, the auction was canceled in error with four days left. @Carmax saw the incredible PR opportunity and put out a public video plea to buy the car for $20,000! They sold Greenie to Carmax today. An early wedding present that is very much deserved. Boom. 👊🏼 ✋🏼🎤💥 If you haven't seen this ad and Carmax's response - it's all on Youtube and all very entertaining. Temporarily adding the link to the video in my profile in case you haven't seen it yet!

Nashville was the end of the road for my tour(officially, even though I am still playing shows throughout the end of 2017) and it was a bittersweet end to an incredible year. After scoping out this city I would drive a few hours North to attend a memorial for my Grandma in her hometown of Versailles, Indiana (pronounced VER-SAILS, no joke). You know what makes facing a sad day a hell of a lot easier? All four of your brothers surprising you by coming to Nashville and driving up with you to Indiana. I know Grandma would have loved seeing us all together, making the best of a somber situation. She was definitely laughing at us from somewhere, watching us tear up the town.

Chaos is clarity. I'm taking comfort in the idea that while a ripple spreads slowly, it does so far and wide. Time is not a line, it's a circle.

In a heady space these days. Feeling raw and finding it difficult to articulate the words that span the distance between loss and love, endings and beginnings, emptiness and infinite capacity. But I found a river once that had in it all of these things and in that understanding, I found pause.

Logan said, "You have to get the recession special when we get to Robert's Western World." What's the recession special you ask? A fried baloney sandwich with lays chips and a miller lite 😂😂😂 My kind of town. This place was an experience unto itself, if you're in Nashville, go. Shhhh. Just go.

Nashville was everything I had hoped it would be and more. It was chaotic, bustling, full of life and there was music literally everywhere. If New York City was the jaded, cigarette smoking art student who reveled in knowing it all and having been there and done that, Nashville was the wide-eyed singer-songwriter who takes the world at face value and believes they are already on their way somewhere big but never so far away from home as to be disconnected from their roots. If it's just me I'll shut up... but if it's not just me... Well, don't worry. Don't worry. I'm not gonna to do what you all think I'm gonna to do, which is just FLIP OUT! But let me just, let me just say, as I ease out of the office I helped build -- I'm sorry, but it's a FACT! -- that there is such a thing as manners, a way of treating people.⠀

These fish have manners. These fish have manners. In fact, they're coming with me. I'm starting a new company, and the fish will come with me. You can call me sentimental. The fish -- they're coming with me.⠀

Okay. If anybody else wants to come with me, this moment will be the moment of something real, and FUN, and inspiring in this god-forsaken business, and we will do it together. Who's comin' with me? Who's coming with me? Who's coming with me besides "Flipper," here?

#fbf After my show in Nashville I met up with the one and only @loganbrillofficial who I opened for at a festival back in Michigan (where I met @valslist for the first time). She's an incredible singer/musician/person and you should check her out. Not only did she put up with me for an entire evening showing me sides of Nashville I probably wouldn't have seen, but then let my little brothers tag along when they surprised me and came into town last minute. This night started with a beer in a bowling alley, rolled on into a speakeasy, continued at Robert's Western World and ended with us shutting a karaoke bar down at god knows what hour. Pro tip people... never let Logan choose the karaoke song for you to sing because she will most definitely choose 'Man I Feel Like A Woman' and laugh for four minutes straight as you try to do your best Shania Twain 😜 Almost unforgivable... but for the above reasons and for her ability to never blink I'll let it slide. 🤵🏻

Fun Fact: Hadley, the host of this show and I met in Seattle through our mutual friend, Adrian.⠀
Fun Fact: She knows Adrian's real name.⠀
Fun Fact: If you know his real name you can summon him at will. She let him be for the time being.⠀
Fun Fact: I documented every show on this tour using a GoPro Hero 3, an iPhone and a Sony a6000. This year was one gigantic selfie.⠀
Fun Fact: People are often embarrassed about having a smaller amount of people but some of the best shows on this tour have been a small amount of people crammed into a small amount of room (shoutout to Oakland!). Sometimes the distance between two people can make all the difference.

Highlight at performance 111 in Raleigh, North Carolina was when, instead of the usual singalong, the hostess with the mostess asked me if we could do Tom Petty in loving memory of the great artist that he was. I said I could probably 'figure out' something... can't say we didn't try. :P

When I left Philadelphia a few nights prior you could feel the fall in the air. The audience huddled with each other for warmth like penguins under thick blankets and they rushed indoors as soon as the concert ended. Then, two shows and one Walmart parking lot later... it was summer again. Thick air, waking life, sweat stung eyes and a heat I hadn't felt the entire tour. I had a great time at this performance but I was glad to head Northward after this. :) I think it's in my blood, I'm a fall/winter kind of person. Heat is my enemy. But Charleston was an amazing place.

Taking today's post all the way back to the 110th performance of this year in Charleston, South Carolina. For this show, I went deep into the South and came away having tasted the most incredible oyster boil, tasted life-changing barbeque and met people that put sweet T in Southern Hospitali-tee.... that's all I got, it was a valiant effort at being clever. Point is - this was a really solid introduction to South Carolina and I look forward to my return next year.

The look you give a negatively charged ectoplasmic entity when they are pleading for their (life?) seconds before your stone cold ass pulls the trigger on your positron collider and traps them forever. Cross the streams.
