I just sat in on an interesting hearing with the Charlottesville City Council's Equalization panel. With the property taxes being raised up to 400% for some, the local Art Park at IX might have to close. This is a park open and free to all of the public, often hosting events and free concerts. With the gentrification happening all throughout Charlottesville lots of questions were brought up. What is a fair market value of an art park? Community member, Ari Daniels, ended the meeting by asking the panel if the highest and best use is realistic, appropriate and achievable? In a council that's broken up into multiple different panels, who is the one looking at the city's plan as a whole? The city looks at the numbers and not emotional reasoning. What do you do when there isn't an algorithm for analyzing the value of art and community? .

I realize this is just the tip of the iceberg on a loaded conversation but I find it very interesting.
