BREAKING NEWS LIVE FROM #YOSEMITE: El Capitan in Yosemite National just experienced yet another serious rockfall. The fall happened at just after 4pm PST. One woman was overheard saying that her boyfriend was in the area but no other details are available. First photos of when the slide was happening, the last is of El Capitan minutes after. ❤️ . (Photos by myself, as it was happening. If reposting please credit and link to my profile.) .

Out of the pictures I took at Burning Man this image has to be one of my favorites. In my mind it captures just a little bit of the essence of what Burning Man meant to me. You have a beautiful sunset and moonrise over the Temple with hundreds of people gathered around and in a very quiet, spiritual place to find peace or to let go of their troubles. In the foreground nothing less than a pirate ship floating across the playa with people dancing their cares away. In the crazy default world in which we reside it makes my heart happy that for at least a week each year people can come together and express themselves openly. They brave the harsh conditions of an ancient dried up lake with only ice and bathrooms provided to let themselves be who they really are, not what society wants them to be. My first Burning Man was honestly something that I can not put into words. I hope to bring the principles and lessons learned out on the playa back to my everyday life. Who wants to help me change the world? ❤️🔥❤️

Learn to look past the dust that many people would see as dirt and you will be able to comprehend just how beautiful this world really is. ❤️
@mountainmanmogli standing tall against the oncoming storm. When everyone else took cover, he had the courage to hold his ground and embrace life for all that it is. Are you in the middle of a storm? Don't forget that the sky is usually the most beautiful after the storm has passed. ❤️
From the totality in Oregon, now I am off for a week in the middle of nowhere for a week at Burning Man! You might not see anything from me for a week but you can bet you will when I get back! ❤️🔥❤️
As a photographer I wanted to figure out a way to convey in photos what it's like to truly experience a total solar eclipse. You see pictures everywhere of close up images of the sun and the corona but it's still hard to explain what it's like in person. The first image is 100 percent coverage during totality. If you swipe left you will see what that exact spot was like 5 seconds prior to the totality. That HUGE amount of light in the second picture is only 99.9 percent of what the sun puts out. The two side by side just seconds apart really put into perspective what it was like today in Oregon for a wonderful 2 minutes today. Honestly probably the most amazing thing I have ever seen in the sky.

This may look like a pretty ordinary spot, but come tomorrow this section of sky will see one of the most rare events in the sky, a total eclipse of the sun. I will have about two minutes of complete darkness, and from what I have heard it's a once in a lifetime experience. I will be posting to my IG story but I will also be putting down the camera to experience such an amazing event. Safe wishes from the path of totality in Oregon! .

It makes me happy to see that @Apple has started up their #Instagram feed! In honor of this happy day I present to you some of my favorite images taken with my #iPhone7Plus shot over the last 6-9 months. With all the road trips around #California and the South West I tend to take, my DSLR isn’t always with me but my iPhone is…and most of the time the camera on my iPhone actually captures the whole scene better than my expensive camera! As they say, the best camera is the one you have with you…and my iPhone camera just keeps getting better and better. And what can I say? I love our National Park system. ❤️ All images #ShotOniPhone of course. 🌟

Back to my “Summer In Yosemite” series! This time just over the pass coming in from the East and just pass Tioga Lake. This was a few weeks ago and there happened to be snow so I pulled off for the fun of playing snow in July (and to cool my bottles of water) and found amazing little things like this. Once again the heat down out of the mountains in the Central Valley was well over 100 but here at almost 10,000 feet the temperature was a cool 69-71 degrees with deep blue skies and beautiful green everywhere. I could have spent all day in this one single spot. It’s one of the best things about California, I can be in #Stockton and a little over two hours later be in a spot like this or on the beach in Santa Cruz.
This is less than 3 weeks away! 🌕🌓🌑

My question to all of those out there who are planning on traveling to see the totality of the Great American Solar Eclipse is where are you headed? I will be out west but there are reports that as many as 1 MILLION people may flood the state of #Oregon. I live in #California and I only plan on driving up and then coming back but anyone have any advice on how to do such a thing without spending days in traffic? (Camping and sleeping in my #Jeep will be a part of the trip.) I don’t need a festival or even crowds…somewhere in the path of totality, even the side of the road is fine with me. 😇 .

The next in my “Summer In Yosemite” series…a beautiful spot to cool down on a hot day in the Valley. Head on up the 120 going towards #Tuolumne Meadows and about halfway there you will find #Tenaya Lake. Most people stop at the first parking spots, but if you keep driving up the road till right after you have gone past the top beach you will find a decent sized parking lot. There are restrooms at that parking lot, and a trail that is exactly .01 miles to this, the best beach on the lake. Because of the geology of the park the sand on the beach is very different than what you will find at the ocean and this is a spot I could spend all day at. Due to the location and elevation the water can be pretty chilly but on a hot day its exactly what you would want. Also due to the record snowpack this year the water is higher than usual and absolutely beautiful. Its worth at least a stop and if you have the time its worth a good chunk of your day. ❤️

Another amazing thing about summer in #Yosemite is the wildlife. Sitting quietly on the ground by the trail to Soda Springs for about 15 minutes I was able to watch this guy walk right by me not more than 15 feet away. I didn’t bother him and he didn’t seem to mind me being there. Its all about respecting the wildlife in Yosemite. ❤️

The next in my “Summer in Yosemite” series…this time sunset! I actually had someone come over and start to ask me why I was laying in the middle of a meadow for a half hour taking pictures and then he looked up and saw this sunset and stopped mid-sentence and answered his own question. And yes, this is pretty much exactly what it looked like in person. Most #Yosemite people will back me up that Tuolumne Meadow sunsets can be spectacular when the conditions are perfect. And to answer my friend @gregc7679, believe it or not the mosquitos really weren’t too bad! 😀
Welcome to the start of my “Summer In Yosemite” series! In July when crowds are large and the heat rises, I love taking that left turn on the 120 and going into #Yosemite high country. In the Central Valley it was 100 degrees, and here at Tuolumne Meadows it was a beautiful 71 degrees. And to top it off it couldn’t have been a more beautiful day. I have many more pictures to share from the day, so we are just getting started…I just wanted to pick one out to get things going. Just an FYI, the Tuolumne Meadows Information Station is now officially open 9-5 daily. Be aware, right now their credit card machine is down so make sure to have some cash! ❤️
As a photographer during the day you always hope for white fluffy clouds that sometimes happen after storms. The only place this might present an issue is a place as large as the Grand Canyon due to shadows. Funny thing is that I love how this image turned out. As a great photographer once told me, expose for the sun and let the light fall where it may. ❤️
