Ballycarbery Castle Ruins, County Kerry. Originally a 14th century fortification it faced a turbulent history including attacks in the 1600s by Parliament forces known as the War of the 3 Kingdoms #ballycarberycastle #countykerry #ringofkerry #ireland #irishhistory #irishhistoryandheritage

The Old Barricks, Caherciveen, County Kerry. Now a Heritage centre it once served as the RIC Barricks at the turn of the last century. An odd looking build for Kerry the story goes that the architects plans for the Barricks were mixed up with those for a station in India. Therefore this tips its hat to British/Indian architecture of that time and somewhere there, is/was a station lends its form to British/Irish features of the late 1800s #ireland #countykerry #caherciveen #irishhistory #irishhistoryandheritage #ric #royalirishconstabulary

Macroom Castle halfway between Killarney and Cork. 800 year history of siege and battles and in the possession of the McCarthys for much of its existence. Also was briefly inhabited by Sir William Penn who's son was the famous founding father of the original US colony of Pennsylvania #ireland #macroom #macroomcastle #pennsylvania #mccarthys #countycork

Blarney Castle, Co. Cork. 350 miles into our journey. People come from all over the world to hang upside down and kiss the stone of eloquence. This day was no different and a cruise ship had docked before we arrived forming an instant 2 hour queue. Wrapped up in bike gear we had no choice but to move on and start pushing north. The grounds are huge though and worth spending a day there if you get the chance #blarneycastlegrounds #blarney #blarneycastle #countycork #ireland

My first post in a long time. Ross Castle, County Kerry from a recent motorcycle trip around Ireland. The castle was amongst the last to surrender to Oliver Cromwell's Roundheads during the Irish Confederate Wars and was only taken when artillery was brought by boat via the River Laune. The Irish had a prophecy that the castle was so strong it could only be taken when a warship could sail on the lough. Eventually that day came #rosscastle #killarney #countykerry

The praying hands of Aillwee Cave in Ireland. A natural formation over 1000s of years intriguing those with faith in a higher being. The vast underground Aillwee Cave was discovered by farmer Jack McGann in 1940 when his dog disappeared down a hole after a rabbit. For some reason he kept it secret until 1972 when he eventually told a group of exploratory university researchers in the local pub what was under his land. It opened to the public in 1976. The Father Ted episode with Richard Wilson and Graham Norton was filmed here

Tyrrellspass Castle, dating back to circa 1411, is situated in the town of Tyrrellspass, County Westmeath, Ireland. It is the only remaining castle of the Tyrrells, who came to Ireland around the time of the Norman Invasion. After centuries of turbulent history, battles and invasion its now a modern family restaurant in County Westmeath, Ireland. We enjoyed breakfast here yesterday morning #tyrellspasscastle #Ireland #normaninvasion #countywestmeath #tyrells #irishhistory

The spectacular Cliffs of Moher. It was extremely windy so we couldn't take the boat tour as the seas were too rough. That's O'Briens tower on the top which is an amazing view point. And that shelf to the right is where the famous mountain bike picture was taken (Google to see, it's nuts!)

I had the absolute pleasure of visiting this place today in County Clare, the setting for one of my favourite shows of all time. Recognise it anyone?
