Peace out America..and Instagram, at least for two weeks....A dream trip of mine is on deck. I'm unplugging for the next couple weeks for my first trip to South America, first to Buenos Aires, and then to Chile for a week-long trek in Patagonia, where I've dreamed about going for as long as I can remember. Perhaps it's a fascination with places that feel like they're on the edge of the world, taking inspiration from my father's intrigue with places like Alaska and Everest. Or perhaps inspired from one of my favorite quotes, by Thoreau: “I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.” Whatever it may be, there are few trips I’ve been as excited about as this. Stoked, and grateful, that this is even a life option. See ya in a couple weeks.
Needless to say, my final view from exploring around Ruidoso was the best. Yeah, all that white below the mountains is White Sands National Monument. #ruidoso #partner #newmexicotrue
Oh hello, Ruidoso. Stoked to be here this week for @travelmindset. Spoiler: The views don't suck. #ruidoso #ruidosonm #partner
Deep in the cut of L.A. County….And we’re about to get deeper.

It was so great to spend the weekend outdoors, exploring the Santa Monica Mountains on National Public Lands Day. Only to end the weekend with news of last night’s tragedy in Vegas, a place that’s special (and magical), and where I have so many great friendships. I hurt for Vegas; and if I, and we all do, how much more for the people deep-rooted there. More broadly, I hurt for my country. Gun control, racism, inequality, hate…We must be better. I must be better. What's more: Today is the UN's International Day of Non-Violence (marked by Mahatma Gandhi's birthday). And as I went back into the Santa Monica Mountains today, I considered the words from Thoreau, “I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.” #liveauthentic #traveldeeper

Big Sur pulled out every MFin' stop last week. Link in profile to my latest photo essay from one of my fave weekend trips to date. #calilove #teamcanon
Y'all, it snowed around Tahoe today. SNOWED. There are still a few hours left in summer after all. This from the first snow last year. #winteriscoming #laketahoe
Camping below the PCH, beneath a sky full of stars, overlooking Big Sur and the Pacific Ocean. One of my most memorable weekends of travel in the USA to date. #a6000 #sonya6000
Filing this week's LA sunsets under "Sunsets that didn't suck." #ilovela #sunsetporn
Alright, now Southern California is just showing off. L.A.-ish weekend light show for the win.
YOLOing the sh*t out of the end of summer. A grand adventure (and sunset) camping in Angeles National Forest this weekend. #findyourpark #sunset_ig
Real. Freakin'. Talk. Throwback to the Riviera Nayarit of Mexico 10 months ago this week. Yes, election week. I heard the anguish, saw the hurt of locals; they were makers, and in some cases family and friends of #DREAMers, and all of a sudden fearful of their livelihoods and the livelihoods of the people they loved. "It won't be that bad," I heard a white Sonoma business owner on vacation say. This isn't a political post. This is a humankind post. We must be better America. I must be better. Lives are literally dependent on it.
I simply can't, and won't, write and photograph the beauty and blemishes of other places, and not the blemishes of my own country. And I recently wrote (link in profile) about what people can do now, however small it is, to make a difference...Changing the world, I believe begins with changing our corner of the world...For our public lands, our parks, our women, our underserved, our diverse neighbors and co-works, our dreamers. #defenddaca
