Dozens of students gathered in front of the White House on Monday to demand changes to gun laws, just days after a deadly mass shooting at a Florida high school left 17 people dead.⠀

The demonstration was organized by Teens For Gun Reform, an organization created by students in the Washington, D.C., area in the wake of Wednesday’s shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.⠀

Protesters participating in the three-minute “lie in,” which began around 12:30 p.m. on Presidents Day, lay down in front of the White House ”in representation of the victims of school shootings,” according to a post on the group’s Facebook page.⠀

“By doing this, we will make a statement on the atrocities which have been committed due to the lack of gun control, and send a powerful message to our government that they must take action now,” the group wrote on Facebook.⠀

  • We have one issue after the next in America. We all know nothing is going to change. You all know it too. We can easily fix things in this country but the powers that be have it in the way they want it to be. It’s time to stop being naïve...

  • I hope the asshole in chief and all his sycophants do the right thing.

  • @jw00dztv that’s a pretty hopeless view. Power to people uniting and waking up. The only way change happens. Truth prevails.

  • If you work in American politics or in the Gov’t on any level and your first reaction to this shooting is more “thoughts & prayers” and NOT ”how are we going to prevent this from happening,” then you need to rethink your priorities as a citizen and human.

  • Why has mass murder accelerated since the 1960s? Do we as a society teach violence is acceptable when opinions differ? What we must do differently I don’t know. Our law for mental health background check was in place when he purchased the AR15 Feb 17, 2017. Police were called to his family home 39 times. FBI was notified twice about this person. Were local, State & Federal authorities hands tied by laws to intervene? Analyze the failures! Of the 67 shooters prior to 2014, 65 had mental health issues, 55 obtained weapons legally. Have fun free zones helped? Has allowing teachers, administrators to carry if they desire to and pass CCW laws helped? One resource officer for 45 acres with multiple buildings is never sufficient! However that doesn’t solve the root cause! I don’t believe there is one solution. Whatever we do, let’s not just pass a law. Rather work together for a complete plan of improvement that includes implementation, feedback, adjustments, continuously improving to reduce / elimination!

  • So proud of you guys👍🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

  • @ntnretreats it’s not hopeless, it’s the truth. Glad people are waking up. But us laying down in front of the white house lawn isn’t going to do much is all I’m saying. I’m a vet, I know first had this country DGAF...

  • So proud of these strong kids. Many of these “kids “ will be voting in 2018 and ALL will be voting in 2020. Proud collective young minds !!!!!

  • ✊🏽

  • Good for them! I really believe that this is the generation that will be able to change gun laws in this country.

  • On a day that they could of spent at the mall or a movie or doing nothing in particular, these young people took a stand against gun violence. Kudos to everyone who participated and let their voices be heard.

  • Our future💕

  • What are you guys doing!?!? You know how Trump and Pence feel about freedom of speech and the right to protest peacefully. They are going to be so pissed when they see you guys exercising your 1st Ammendment rights. #sarcasm

  • @gabriellococo402 but that’s too difficult, let’s just ban them because nobody needs them and who gives a shit about the criminal market it will create

  • Its ultimately up to us, We The People. Vote those who don't support gun control, OUT of office.

  • @kylcolo1 I concur with your sarcasm … our professional politicians spend more of their own time seeking donations to get re-elected, rather than what we elect them for. Then they hire others!

  • Don't stop it's the right thing to do. Very proud of you

  • Love these kids!!! They are amazing!!!

  • Power to our youth

  • Survivor, Emma Gonzalez calls BS - The issue is guns, not mental illness - Guns and tools aren’t the same - The government’s to blame - America needs more than a prayer and a bless

  • So proud of these young people!

  • 😍😍❤❤❤❤

  • These kids are awesome 💪🏼

  • What's the use? NRA has most senators and Congress in its pockets and every day guns are killing our children.Gun issue is BULL S

  • Stupid

  • Those kids look ridiculous...they need to blame the FBI for not doing their job since Sept 2017..@whitehouse #militarykid😎👐

  • 👍

  • Too bad 45 is golfing at his resort in Florida.

  • @realdonaldtrump protests like this are becoming the every day bread... never during the Obama adm we saw this kind of disappointment from the ppl. #resist

  • Pawns

  • ✊🏼literally #voteordie

  • @hawaiiisabella they are brave and will make positive changes happen. Ban assault weapons now!!

  • An appropriate lesson in Civics.

  • agsrav 1M ago

  • We must have change! I gladly stand with the #neveragain movement. Not one more child can die.😬😡🔥

  • There’s hope for our country yet. Well done, kids.

  • @hawaiiisabella omg shut the fuck up, you willfully ignorant Orange teat sucking lemming. It’s people like you that make most of us embarrassed to be American.

  • Unfortunately ... this or any “powerful message” will always fall on deaf ears.... if it doesn’t effect him or his bosses ( the 1% , big oil, big $$).... it’s not an issue... With his knee jerk reactions, I wonder what he’d do if a child or grandchild of his were murdered in this manner...

  • @melissaharris22 ... 💀🏹🏌🏿‍♂️

  • Teaching this generation to speak up and take action!!!

  • BRAVO❣️

  • So proud of your protest/ lay down.. We hope and pray putting your self’s out there will finally change the gun laws 👍🏽

  • Our children are the future #solidarity

  • I support these kids, teachers and their families.

  • 👋🏽👋🏽👋🏽👋🏽👋🏽

  • Gun reform?? How about making our schools safe! Our government has no problem securing government office buildings, courthouses & airports. They can pass gun laws till the cows come home but to make gov schools safe they need to keep the crazies out!!

  • @synghlee I totally agree with you.

  • So proud of these students. The Government can ignore you for only so long before they have to act! I stand and support each of you.

  • Good job! Keep the attention on the victims!

  • Let’s keep it up! Liar in Chief is at his Florida resort though.

  • Our future!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

  • Proud of these young adults

  • Hey White House!! Seems Time is up!! On a whole slew of issues!! Hmmm Listening NOW?? 🤔🤨

  • Proud of our youth! They are the future. They are our NOW!

  • Brave and courageous kids. Got to feel proud of them for trying to make a difference in the midst of another preventable tragedy.

  • AWESOME❣️❣️

  • @synghlee yes, because that is what Jesus always preached.."get more guns"!

  • @synghlee look at other countries!

  • The future will be in good hands

  • Enough is enough!!!!

  • Good for them !!!!!!

  • I'm so proud of these young people!

  • How about metal detectors

  • Go to class

  • Let's hurry up and put all the current legislator out in 2018.

  • This type of demonstration would be better done at the capitol; where laws/bills are wrtten and enacted. The POTUS only signs them.

  • ❤️❤️❤️

  • G-d Bless The Children!

  • This is what we need to do!!! To all the politicians we send you to Washington by voting for you. Now do your jobs and stop the gun violence. The laws must be changed NOW, how many more children/people need die in this country.

  • _vyki_ 1M ago

We should support them in their protest. This is the right thing to do. It’s their right and our fight to make tomorrow, today’s brighter day.

  • You go young men and women. If the cowardly adults in congress and the WH won’t protect you, do it yourself and totally shame them.

  • Proud of you. You’re patriotic Americans 🇺🇸🇺🇸you are all hero’s. I stand will you!!!

  • @checkintoit -sympathy for your bot like response.

  • These kids are fucking fantastic, Parkland is kicking butt

  • ❤️❤️❤️

  • Think about this, in 2 years we will have almost 3 million new young voters! They are the future!

  • And a lot of these kids will be voters next election time❣️

  • Yes thank you to All those young people that are being proactive 👍❤

  • Hmmmn - this is the same generation that is also engaged in the tide pod challenge. Maybe if they were more concerned about mental health problems our society would be in less trouble.

  • I swear if I hear one more person say Tide Pod challenge!!!! Really people????? Really????? They are reaching at any level possible to make changes, and the sooner the simple minded window lickers realize that the better we all are!!! Like Whitney Houston sang...I believe the children are our future!!!! These kids rock!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

  • 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

  • Anyone else notice how trump is returning to the White House in the dark for the past few weeks?

  • The future looks bright ✊🏾

  • So proud!

  • Maybe the comatose in Washington will be awakened by the children. They've been doing little for them.

  • Finally US has had enough....or maybe not

  • It was organized most probably by resisting Democrats

  • Gratitude We all must be committed to keeping this movement alive-moving forward

  • Outstanding, keep it up til something changes.

  • Today dozens, tomorrow thousands, next month millions! Keep the faith. #neveragain

  • @echo_valley2018, mental health issue requires the expenditure of tax money to pay for it. Something the Republican Party has never and I mean never, been willing to do. You continue to see the Republican Party undermine all social programs. So I'am asking you, how is mental health in reference to gun ownership, going to be accomplished? Just asking. Nothing comes cheap.

  • So stupid. ❄️

  • @ambrazil yes really, that’s just one of the many things this generation is engaged in.

  • @echo_valley2018 well generations after generations of youth have all been involved with something stupid at one point or another!!! The young people in the 70’s were thought to be hippies and stoners and listened to music that was considered controversial!!! Time to get your head out of your ass and realize that the ridiculous Tide Pod challenge doesn’t define or stereotype this entire age group!!! 🤦‍♀️ And if you do think that then I feel very sorry for you!!!

  • dmke38 1M ago

Bless these young people for using their voice and bodies to send their message!

  • Gee it's reassuring to know that high school students have more guts than anybody in the Feeder

  • Oops!! Federal Government! What the fuck is the gun lobby gonna do now? pretty good chance there lackeys two of witch are from my state of Iowa hopefully will get sent down the road! Then I'll send my thoughts and prayers to Reps Ernst and Young

  • bmod81 1M ago

It’s about going back to the foundation of an intact family. -core values and respect. When mental health concerns arrive the family is there. It’s not the schools job to raise kids. Which it appears this is the task they been giving instead of helping the kids learn how to read write learn math & science Like everything get back to the basic foundation. everything should not be political -actually very little should be. Read and understand the constitution. Govt has way over stepped it’s authority and we’ve let it. Stop listening to the news -it’s all twisted. Do your own research What is the real reason for the 2nd amendment. I really wish people get off the political bandwagon and really start getting involved in their communities in volunteering go help these kids learn how to read and write instead of just sitting online bitching about things

  • Stupid, the FBI doesn’t do their job and the NRA gets blamed.

  • @oliva_arturo Actually bullets kill people, stupid.

  • @ambrazil really I think you should get your head out of your ass. You talk as if this generation is reinventing the wheel and doing a much better job than any generation before. Really, I’m not that impressed with these snowflakes. By the way, it’s their peers that are killing them, ever thought of that?

  • @echo_valley2018, I don’t think anyone is saying they are reinventing the wheel!!! FOR F**K SAKE!!!🙄 We are simply applauding their drive and initiative to stand for something they believe in!!! You know, like generations have before them?!?!?! If you can’t stand behind them, then you are against them! I am a parent and I want my kids/family/community safe!!! The SNOWFLAKE crap is just an uneducated response that makes people look and sound stupid!!!

  • he won’t notice he’s playing at golf 🧐

  • @djj06 xcpt if their children were victims

  • They know the president doesn’t make the laws right? Are they outside congress too?

  • Peaceful protest ❤️

  • Keep up the good fight! You will persevere!

  • Cause making stricter gun laws is gonna change things 🙄. Yeah that worked for drugs too 🙄. Criminals don’t follow laws. Plus there’s the whole black market thing etc. I’m glad it was a peaceful protest at least.

These kids rock! They are the future and future voters! They will accomplish what we could not b/c they are smart, they care, and the earth will be theirs! Bravo!

  • what a joke and that's why they are losers.

  • Waaah! Once again children are taught to throw a temper tantrum in order to get their way. Just like toddlers.

  • Courage and our future. I only wish I could join you. Way to go!

  • Way to go ❤️❤️❤️❤️

  • @dave5023 well, we could start with the $115 billion we spend on illegal aliens, then use the 500 million sent to planned parenthood, we could also stop the aid we send to foreign countries that hate us. I listed two social programs because they directly undermine our society. The “great society” social experiment has not improved the plight of the poor but only exacerbated it and the people who have benefited from it are politicians. We limp along as a society with a bandaid on our problems and never solve them. It’s time for an overhaul of social programs that don’t benefit the American people. If people have hope and purpose, we don’t devolve into drug abuse, crime and hurting one another.MAGA

  • 💜💜💜

  • This generation will be the one to do it. courage...

  • Very proud of these students!

  • Good for you, kids. I'm proud of you. 💕💕💕

  • He doesn't care. Trump would literally step on all of them if given the chance. He would get away with it too. 😒

  • I a.m. humbled .....

  • So proud of our youths! It’s encouraging to see them banding together, while gut wrenching to know their young lives required such action! We can only hope the gvnmt will actually take action, I’m not optimistic but hopeful...

  • Amazing, being expecting this. Thanks to our youth.

  • Make it stricter in the USA, criminals will purchase guns elsewhere. There are ALWAYS others ways. I hope something does change, but it needs to change in our society first and our current way of thinking.

  • Follow the children

  • Yeah cuz lying on the ground is gonna get you what you want.

  • What they want won’t even be effective, and it is just plain stupid

  • @cafamof5 toddlers that have been shot at and seen blood

  • @oliva_arturo my question is how do you feel wallowing in the blood of children?

  • So sad! Don’t give up!! Our prayers are with you all!! ❤️🙏🏻

  • YOU GO !

  • Are they pretending to be the murdered babies Americans abort each year?

  • If they weren’t paid they definitely got extra credit from their liberal arts professors who’s social studies degree won’t be paid off till they’re 59 🤣

The daylong demonstration was held in response to Sacramento police officers killing 22-year-old #StephonClark in his grandparents’ backyard on Sunday night while responding to reports of car break-ins.⠀

The Sacramento Police Department said officers believed Clark had advanced toward them while holding a gun, though police only found a cellphone on him after an exhaustive search.⠀

McCabe responded in a lengthy statement, decrying his firing as an attempt “to taint the FBI, law enforcement, and intelligence professionals more generally.”⠀
