• MISSY – #20801

Intake Date: 2/15/18, Intake Type: Owner Surrender

Medical Behavior: Blue Sex: Female, Age: 6 years

Weight: 49 lbs

A volunteer writes: Gentle Missy is the image of the man(woman)’s best friend. Sweet and affectionate(while playful), Missy slept with her owner and shared her meals with her…She was so good that she lived in peace with the house cat. Still, Missy is with us as her master could not deal with her seizures(not yet observed at the care center) left untreated. Our medical staff is of course looking into the matter. Missy is a very pretty gal, well groomed and so foxy looking with her long nose and pointy ears. I call her Inspector Missy as she does a lot of sniffing, checking every nook and cranny. She is still trying to find her place among new people and new walls. She is a good walker, likely house trained , fine with the noises of the street and civil to all dogs met. Missy does not like my treats but as I walked her later on that day, i brought rotisserie chicken with me. She gulped it down in no time and her tail was wagging like a helix in full speed…We all have our soft spot…Missy is a lovely middle aged gal, a family dog, gentle, well mannered and affectionate. She would love to be your loyal four legged best friend and show once again what a good girl she is. Missy is at the Manhattan Care Center. - #regrann

• Hello, my name is Money. My animal id is #20650. I am a male tan dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 5 years old.

I came into the shelter as a stray on 13-Feb-2018.

Money is at risk for medical reasons, having been diagnosed with Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex, which is contagious to other dogs. Behaviorally, we suggest that Money would be best suited to a dog experienced home.

Let’s get to know each other a bit more…
A volunteer writes: Forget about Vegas, baby. New York City is where all the beautiful babies are, specifically East 110th street. There’s one sweet little fellow in particular that I recommend you meet. One who promises to be worth the greatest gamble. To be the jackpot of your dreams. 5 year-old Money is quiet and demure in his kennel but don’t let that shy exterior fool you. Our cinnamon-coated boy with the adorably wrinkled brow is a social butterfly ready and rearing to see the world, and to take you right along with him. Money is easily leashed and off this compact cutie and I go, off to see the world, but first a stroll in the park. Now with an inner light that would outshine the Hollywood sign, and more excitement and ‘joie de vivre’ than a night at the Stardust Casino, Money is all about adventure and taking in as much of life as he can which, yes, does often result in some pulling of the leash. But make no mistake. Our beautiful baby also has a quiet side, one that comes alive once we settle ourselves onto a park bench or later back inside with friends. Money comes to us as an owner surrender having previously lived with two children ages 9 and 10 and also with a small dog. He’s described as gentle and respectful of all, and also is said to be unbothered by being brushed or bathed, and to know the command “sit.”

• Hello, my name is Gouda. My animal id is #20197. I am a male tan dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 1 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a stray on 08-Feb-2018.

Gouda is at risk for medical reasons, having been diagnosed with Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex, which is contagious to other dogs. Gouda also has a low grade heart murmur. Behaviorally, we suggest that Gouda would be best suited to a dog experienced home.

• A volunteer writes: Caramelly, nutty, buttery, strong yet sweet at the same time? If you like the flavor of Gouda the cheese then you’re going to love what Gouda the dog brings to the table! Dressed in a flawless caramel coat and showing off just the right amount of nutty, playful energy, ‘The Big G’ is a whole lotta dog to love. His fur is buttery soft and his heart too, and while his play style can be pretty full-on at times, he’ll still listen and sit politely on command for a treat…or five! Weighing in at 68 pounds of pure muscle, Gouda’s a naturally strong puller on leash but he listens well and responds to correction all while promptly taking care of his business and meeting passing dogs with happy enthusiasm. He’s less into toys than he is having fun with his two- and four-legged friends and once tuckered out by a good long walk and a zoomie session, he’ll lean his gorgeous blockhead onto your lap for some soft petting. The Big G lives every moment to the full and he’s looking for an active, outdoorsy family, with or without other pups, who’ll join him for a lifetime worth of fun and adventure. Visit our Manhattan Care Center and get your own taste of the Gouda life today!

• Hello, my name is Papa. My animal id is #20196. I am a male tan dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years 1 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a returns on 17-Feb-2018.

Papa is at risk for medical reasons, having been diagnosed with Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex, which is contagious to other dogs. Behaviorally, we suggest that Papa would be best suited to an adult only home.

• A volunteer writes: A beautiful dog, inside and out. A good dog, a loyal dog, one who will trust and love his master, no matter what. You might just see a brown and shy dog in a kennel, I get it. But what you see is not the real Papa. Yes, Papa is his name and he is with us for no fault of his own. His owner past away. Papa stayed with a neighbor for a few days before brought to us. He was friendly with all and respectful of the resident small dog and cat. Papa is slowly coming out of his shell as he understands that we mean well and empathize with his loss. I simply fell in love with him after getting my first kiss at the end of a bonding session. I knew he could trust. I knew I could trust him. It was written all over him. Although I know I owe a walk to many dogs in the care center, Papa gets to see me at least three times when I am there. I can’t help it. He is now most often found at his door, still with puzzled puppy eyes but so ready for his stroll to the park or around the block. He does not mind pigeons, squirrels(are they not supposed to hibernate?) and other dogs. He loves to hop on a bench and squeeze against me(or a staff) for hugs, kisses and comfort. Papa is such a friend, one I am pretty sure got a lot of love and good care from his former master. I (we)dream for Papa to find the most wonderful home ever(I wish it was mine) and a new loving owner. Papa is at the Manhattan Care Center, waiting to meet you.

• Hello, my name is Sir Humphrey. My animal id is #20176. I am a male tan dog at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 10 years 1 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a stray on 07-Feb-2018

Sir Humphries is at risk due to being diagnosed with Canine Upper Respiratory Disease Complex and will likely require home rest and a series of antibiotics for up to 14 days. This is a contagious illness to other dogs. He would do well with an experienced dog owner.

Let’s get to know each other a bit more…
A volunteer writes: Unlike the TV character from whom he takes his name, our Sir Humphrey favors action. While seeming all zen and thoughtful indoors, Humph turns into a pup again on his walkies. He seems to have a bit of Boxer in him — the jowls, hangdog eyes, and energy. But while he does bounce along outside, Humph never loses his gentlemanliness. He behaved very nicely when being poked and prodded for his medical exam (better than some people would), and keeps his kennel spotless. He sits patiently for treats and pats, and is just happy overall being around people. Humph is the perfect combination of maturity and fun, and so deserving of a forever home where he can live out his golden years. Meet him soon in Brooklyn.

• Hello, my name is Churro. My animal id is #20325. I am a male black dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 1 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a stray on 10-Feb-2018.

Churro is at risk for medical reasons, having been diagnosed with Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex, which is contagious to other dogs. Behaviorally, we suggest that Churro would be best suited to an adult only home.

Let’s get to know each other a bit more…
A volunteer writes:Sweet, petite, delicate yet delicious…that’s our Churro! From the top of his perky ears to the tip of his ever wagging tail, this ebony cutie is 100 percent adorable and SO much fun! It seem that Churro’s never met a person he didn’t love, a toy he wouldn’t chew or a lap he couldn’t snuggle into, and if you’re a fan of mischievous little snugglebugs (as I am) then every moment spent with him is an absolute delight. Even on a rainy day he bounces joyfully down the street, checking in every so often to make sure I’m noticing what a good boy he’s being and greeting other dogs with eager pulling and tail wags. Off leash he’s a bit too enthusiastic in his approach so would benefit from a tolerant doggie ‘mentor’ or some training from his new parents to show him the ropes of proper playgroup etiquette but his big heart is definitely in the right place. In short (because Churro is short!) he’s super handsome, extremely happy and very affectionate, the perfect pet for a home as fun-loving, active and boisterous as he is. Sweet Churro’s ready to shine like the star he was born to be, will yours be the lucky family who basks in the warmth of his love?

• Hello, my name is Puppychulo. My animal id is #20109. I am a desexed male black dog at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 1 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a stray on 06-Feb-2018.

Puppychulo was placed at risk due to behavior deteriorating; Puppychulo was lunging and snapping at each dog in their kennels. Also when the staff member attempted to place him back into his kennel, Puppychulo was still lunging and snapping and redirected onto the handler, grabbing and tearing his pants. He will benefit from placement outside the shelter as soon as possible.

• A volunteer writes: I could tell that Puppychulo was a good boy as soon as I walked up to his kennel–even though some of his neighbor-dogs were barking with excitement, he just looked up at me and sat down nicely and patiently. As easy on the leash as I thought he would be, Puppychulo showed excellent manners on our walk. He waited until we were outside to do his business, sat nicely for treats, and didn’t pull on the leash. When I returned him to his kennel, Puppychulo immediately ran over to his toy alligator and brought him over to me, eager to play! If you’re looking for a sweet puppy with lots of love to give, come and meet Puppychulo today at the Brooklyn ACC.

• Hello, my name is Cannoli. My animal id is #20737. I am a male white dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years old.

I came into the shelter as a stray on 14-Feb-2018.

Cannoli is at risk for medical reasons, having been diagnosed with Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex, which is contagious to other dogs. Behaviorally, we have no concerns for Cannoli, whom we believe would be suitable for most homes.

Let’s get to know each other a bit more…
A volunteer writes: Wearing the most perfect ginger-brindle eye patch, a spotless white coat and a winning smile, Cannoli looks like a playful pirate out to steal your heart…and he is! I fell for his gorgeous face from the get-go, but he’s sweet on the inside too, eager to socialize and easy to handle, friendly toward fellow dogs and very smart and responsive when he wants to be. Squeaky toys and sniffing stuff are Cannoli’s two favorite hobbies, and he devotes himself to them with a passion, exploring the neighborhood with his nose to the ground or focusing like a laser on the sound of his toy. He sits politely for treats, too, though mine are apparently not to his taste! A good leash walker who doesn’t pull, he makes plenty of pit stops for sniffing and potty time along the way, and off leash he’s soft, smooshable and always ready to play. Cannoli is just as delicious as his namesake, and with his excellent behavior evaluation he’d fit into any active home with ease. Ask to meet this handsome hunk at our Manhattan Care Center and get ready to fall in love!

Regrann from @pawz.of.love - Hello, my name is Coco. My animal id is #20140. I am a desexed female brown dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 7 years 1 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 07-Feb-2018, with the surrender reason stated as person health – medical.

• Coco is at risk for medical reasons, having been diagnosed with Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex, which is contagious to other dogs. Coco is also a little overweight and suffers from mild dermatitis. Behaviorally, we suggest that Coco would be best suited to a dog experienced home.

• A volunteer writes: Who does not like hot chocolate? It reminds us of cold winters spent by the hearth, warming up with a beverage, or maybe a delightful afternoon with grandma when we were little. Coco is just that, a mushy, sweet and friendly gal who embodies all the warm thoughts around chocolate. Coco, owned since tender puppyhood, is with us through no fault of her own. She comes with glowing comments. She would be lively, playful, affectionate, love kids and other dogs (although she would bark at them while on the leash). A kennel is not Coco’s cup of tea. She is a great walker, though, likely house trained, an obedient sitter who gives paw and a loving lap dog who snuggles tightly against my chest and slobber my face with kisses. She likes treats, of course, (Coco is quite well nourished) and sits for them with the biggest smile. Coco is a middle aged dame, energetic, sociable and very affectionate, a little anxious (but only within our walls) who so would love to be once again a beloved four-legged family member. Come and meet her soon at the Manhattan Care Center.

• Hello, my name is Jax. My animal id is #20364. I am a male white dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years 1 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 10-Feb-2018, with the surrender reason stated as animal behaviour – not good with resident animals.

Jax is at risk for medical reasons, having been diagnosed with Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex, which is contagious to other dogs. Jax also has mild dermatitis, and is underweight. Behaviorally, we have no concerns for Jax, whom we believe would be suitable to most homes.

• A volunteer writes: Jax had a wiggly body and a waggy tail upon arrival to the care center. His former family counting three middle aged children told us that Jax was very friendly to all, lively , affectionate and loved to play. So, why is he with us? Well, Jax and the two small dogs in the house did not get along. They were there first. Jax is a young man, rather petite, elf like and thin. Although very hungry(he ate half of my bag of treats), he is quite polite taking dry liver from my fingers, even sitting right away at their sight. It took me a while to get Jax to be comfortable with me. At first he would not even eat from my hand, only from the floor. His only focus was the door.Fleeing was the main thing on his mind. Little by little, as he is an intuitive little boy, Jax understood that I meant well and let me pet him, wagged his tail and even dared to put his forelegs on my lap. He looked almost peppy as it was time to bring him back to his kennel. Patience and love go a long way. Jax is in need of TLC and as any young dog, of training. Experienced and loving hands are sought to brighten Jax life and award him down the line the coveted job of beloved forever best friend. Come and meet him soon at the Manhattan Care Center.

Regrann from @ tanyasrocksforjustice - Listed 2nd night 💔 Please help save 2 year old baby Puppychulo #20109. He was found as a stray on Feb 6, 2018. NYC ACC’s notes: “Puppychulo was placed at risk due to his behavior deteriorating; Puppychulo was lunging and snapping at each dog in their kennels.
