Aboriginal dancers look skyward as someone whispers “that’s him” when a breeze blows across a dried lake bed. A casket carrying their most prominent ancestor has just arrived at a repatriation ceremony in far south west NSW.
Sissy Pettit (pictured) is a descendant of the Mungo Man, who lived at the lake 42,000 years ago when it was full.
His remains have been in the care of researchers in Canberra for more than 40 years.
