As of tomorrow I’ll be #1monthpostpartum! I can’t believe it’s been a month since Adler joined our family. 👶🏻 I’ve recently started feeling how nursing and pumping is taking its toll on my body. I had a headache for two days, so yesterday I got a massage. Today I decided to softly move my body. Heart openers, albeit gentle ones, feel delightful not to mention got rid of my headache. This video is sped up several times. Don’t mind my rather serious face I’m watching/listening to Vampire Diaries while stretching per @kathrynbudig’s suggestion. I am taking care of myself so I can better show up for Adler. ❤️ I finally got a chance to try out some of @aloyoga’s new winter line and if you want to too they’re having a sale right now. These high waisted lounge leggings are so soft and cozy. I may never take them off. I’m looking forward to getting to know my body again as I begin to move it. I plan on sharing that journey with you guys! ❤️

  • I laughed out loud~ vampire diaries was my go-to for “mom time” in the living room while stretching and snacking a couple years ago. Enjoy these sweet moments/days~ there’s nothing quite like the postpartum period after the first baby 💗 as hard as it was I look back on those days with so much love

  • I had a strong asana practice before my little boy came along (also c section) 2 years after his birth I've never felt stronger. I took it real slow but getting to know my body again was humbling and exciting.   • You had a C-section and are moving around like nothing?!Lolz. You amaze me woman! I am so happy you had a safe delivery and a safe return home and that baby is doing well congratulations.

  • I'm also one month post partum as of this past Friday and just started doing my yoga routines again and it is the most liberating/ uplifting feeling after what feels like ages of being chained to my couch or a chair to nurse my son. Thankfully he is doing amazing and I think is slightly amused by mommy's new activity :)

  • Nice for sharing your post-partum journey with us. It isn’t easy to recover after a c-section, plus pumping and nursing. It is good that you add some time for gentle exercises in your mommy daily routine and move those adhesions from the c-section scar tissue.

I’ve been loving how much you guys have been sharing on my posts lately. Let’s keep it up. 👊🏼 Being Monday and the beginning of the week I want to set the tone of this week right. I want you to share one goal or intention you have for this week. Mine is to slow down and create space. In the New Year I’ve taken on teaching 3 classes a week, have several doctors appointments weekly between Adler and I as well as social get togethers. I enjoy it all minus the doctors appointments but I haven’t had time to focus on moving my body. Wait, let me rephrase that. I haven’t made time to move my body. I know how good I feel when I do yet I’ve been majorly procrastinating. Why?!? I’m in a movement funk. Can any of you relate? I’m posting this @jasperyoga photo with this post because it was a time I felt incredibly empowered in my body unlike I am right now. If I’m able to slow down then I’ll find a few minutes each day to move because something is better than nothing. ❤️ I look forward to hearing how you all are starting your week. I gain so much inspiration from your shares, so thank you in advance. 🙏🏼

I love spicy food, coffee and avocados. I like to make cookies more than I like to eat them. My right foot is bigger than my left. I once ran a half marathon and then stopped running as a hobby immediately after. I started as a personal trainer and group fitness instructor when I was 18. I’ve lived in LA for a total of ten years throughout my life. I remember doing jazzercise VHS tapes when I was young. I’ve always loved moving my body. In a previous life I think I was a rapper. Becoming your mom has been the most life altering experience in the best and most challenging ways possible. Every day I look at your sweet face and am reminded that I want to do better. You inspire me to try to make this world a place you’ll be proud of. You make your dad and I want to better and strengthen our relationship so that you grow up seeing and feeling what unconditional love and partnership is. I’m so overwhelmed by all the comments I received on my last post. Many of you asked about the process Mike and I go through to communicate openly and lovingly with one another while discussing our problems. We want to share this process with you guys. I’m trying to put together an ebook guide of our favorite tools that help keep our relationship healthy. Most of these tools would be appropriate for romantic relationships and friendships. One tool is to discuss “hot topic” issues when you’re not in the middle of them. Once you’ve both cooled down it’s a lot easier to discuss an issue from a level-headed and grounded place. Individual work is crucial. I love that my asana practice shifted deeply into svadhyaya (self study). Personally owning up to the things that trigger me has been pivotal. When I feel someone has wronged me I can be quite cold and harsh. My reaction is to run, dismiss the person, etc... I’ve slowly gotten better at not doing this nearly as much since addressing my own insecurities throughout the years. I can’t recommend professional help enough! Seek out a therapist. They can facilitate a lot of growth.👌🏼What in your relationships would you like to get better at? The more you guys share the more I can hopefully address in our ebook! 👍🏼 We are also putting together couple/family retreats for 2018/19 which would walk you through our process step by step over a weekend in an awesome location. Today is the last day of our family retreat in Canmore. We started the day with a leisurely morning. Honestly how do people leave the house before noon with a newborn? The rest of the day we sat in a coffee shop and talked about our goals as a family, individually, professionally, etc. We “graded” each other as partners to make sure our love tanks are being filled. It’s so easy to get caught up in life and neglect your partner since they’ll always be there, right? Wrong. Mike and I are committed to bettering our relationship every year. This means we have to be willing to receive constructive criticism. This took a lot of practice on my end. Hello ego... haha. 💖 One of my personal goals this year is to up my online presence. This means authentically sharing things I love (pictures of Adler, duh). I’d also love to share more useful/practical stuff... I’ve committed to blogging! What would you want to hear about? Yoga poses? Mom stuff? Recipes? I have a big ask of you as one of my “followers” if you’ve made it this far in the post take 5 seconds to leave me a comment. Leave one word you’re trying to embody in 2018. Mine is driven.
Today I worked out! This may not seem like a feat to most of you but I’m almost 2.5 months post c-section and finally feel like moving is good for my body. Prior to today I’ve mainly been doing myofascial release and super gentle asana. The past week I’ve done more asana and exercise. For the first time today I did a HIIT workout. It felt amazing!! Check out my instastory to witness my endorphins/post exercise high. I followed Day One from @yogawithbriohny and my @codyapp plan FitFlow. I wanted to find a cool workout shot from the plan to post but stumbled across this photo from FitFlow Strong and thought the world could use more hugs instead. The workout I did was short but effective. Four rounds of: jump squats, walking lunges, v-ups and high knees. I modified the last two exercises. For the v-up’s I lowered down onto my forearms for extra support and lowered one leg at a time. For the high knees I did mountain climbers or a static plank hold because these huge breastfeeding boobs were having none of the bouncing in high knees. For the workout you work for 30 seconds and rest for 10 before moving onto the next exercise. coffee & baby snuggles. Two of my favorite things these days (in no specific order).😍 Adler and mommy (yes, I’m referring to myself in third person and as mommy. I’m turning into that parent. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️) have been enjoying a lot quality time at @meetingwaters.ab. It’s a new coffee shop in town that I’m obsessed with. Being from Seattle since moving to Red Deer I’ve desperately missed a place that I can be cozy, do work, hang out and drink coffee that isn’t Starbucks. I’ve found my new home here. In my opinion it’s so important to support local. Seeing as though I’m married to our local farmer @steel_pony I may be incredibly biased. 😜 Here are some of my favorite local spots: @troubledmonk @breathingroomrd @prairiegoldmeat @thefloatshack @absolutefitnessrd @heritage_ranch @roosterswfs to name a few. My #bestof2017 were mostly pictures of Adler so I figured I’d give you some fresh ones! 😍 He’s clearly a natural in front of the camera just like his mom! 😜😂😂 His facial expressions kill me. ❤️ As the last few hours of 2017 slip by my wishes for you are that you spend time reflecting about what is important, what you value, and what brings you joy. What my days look like now... wake up. Feed Adler. Diaper change. Have ☕️. Adler falls back asleep or has some awake time (as seen). Mommy tries to sneak in some movement. Get spit up on. Diaper change. Cuddles. Adler eats. Mommy eats. Repeat until it’s morning again. 🖤 Yesterday I humoured myself and decided to try pressing for the first time in 6 months. I lost my press fairly early in my pregnancy, so it had been awhile. To my surprise I was shocked that on blocks I could do it. I’ve repeated it multiple times since so it’s not a fluke. Pressing from the ground isn’t happening yet, but I’m sure with time it will. It’s incredibly empowering feeling some of my strength again. Moving and flowing slowly has also felt really good. My body is certainly different (still only being two months post c-section), but parts feel quite familiar too. I give thanks every day for this beautiful vessel that carries me through this incredible life and gave my our son. 🖤 Yes, we are those people... We leave our Christmas tree up until after New Years Day. How about you? 🖤 Feeling like a badass ninja in my extreme ripped warrior @aloyoga leggings.

It’s always such an honor to work with @jasperyoga. His attention to detail and mastery of lighting are supreme. Every year he produces a calendar and I feel fortunate to grace the pages. This year he put a recent photo of me pregnant which was taken 10 weeks ago and then an old photo (swipe left) that was taken around 4-5 years ago with @marysia_do. The older photo was the first time I had ever done a nude photoshoot. I remember being so so so nervous before the shoot. I sat in the bathroom giving myself a mental pep talk trying to talk myself out of climbing out the window and never returning. Once I sat with my fear and did the shoot I never looked back. The process was incredibly empowering. I feel proud to have captured my body and it’s abilities throughout my late 20’s, early 30’s and pregnancy in such a beautiful way. 💚 Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! 💚 Today I thought I’d spice things up from baby spamming you guys with a yoga pose post (after all my handle is @mackenzieyoga 😹). Then when I got outside I was like “wtf am I going to do?!” 😂 I threw my leg up in the air and @steel_pony and I started laughing hysterically and he snapped this joyous shot. That’s basically life with the two of us. Lots of laughter. My favorite part of the holidays is spending time with loved ones, laughter and naps on the floor (post meals). This holiday season I’m feeling extremely grateful. There was a version of Christmas that looked very different for Mike, Adler and I. One where we were still stuck in Hamburg waiting for Adler’s passport to be issued. Instead we’ve been home for over a month and get to celebrate the holidays with our families. I suppose that coming to that realization this morning makes me feel more gratitude than I already was. We are all healthy. We are all safe. We are all loved. Mike and I were essentially born into the same body. 😜What do they say... couples who yoga together stay together? 😂

Since the beginning of my asana journey my feet have always been able to find my head. The reality is that I have an exceptionally flexible spine. Post pregnancy when it comes to backbends I’ve felt quite stiff (for me). This picture is the closest I’ve come to getting my feet to my head and my hamstrings almost cramped from me trying so hard. My previous attempts were much further away. I have found a lot of peace with my asymmetries, the things I’m good at and the things I struggle with. Fortunately I have a husband who likes to humor me when I’m taking myself a little too seriously. Hope if at the very least this post brought a smile to your face. We certainly laughed a lot taking these pictures on my in-laws living room floor.

I love looking back at videos of my pregnant body moving. The experience still feels surreal. I miss my belly. The sexiest I’ve ever felt and most comfortable in my skin I’ve ever been was when I was pregnant. Fortunately those feelings have lingered post-pregnancy too ginormous breastfeeding boobs and all. The journey taught me to embrace, love and cherish my body and it’s superhero powers. Hint: yours is pretty damn powerful and amazing too. Love it. Be grateful for it. Cherish it now. Thank you @codyapp for capturing this so beautifully. Wearing @aloyoga always and forever.

Adler,
Today was the day you were supposed to arrive and make us a family of three. Instead you’ve already been with us for two months! You unexpected flew into our world and have shown us what it looks like to soar through life with strength and grace. Your name Adler, which is German for eagle, is oh so fitting. You came to us weighing 1890g/4 lbs 2 ounces and measuring 43 cm/17 inches and now you’re 3850g/8 lbs 8 ounces and 54.6 cm/21.5 inches. Not only have you taught me how limitless my ability to love is, but also how much love there is around me. Through your birth your daddy @steel_pony and I have been so supported from our family to strangers and everyone else in between. The acts of love and kindness we’ve received are almost unbelievable. I have a feeling that this is just the beginning of a lifetime of lessons you’re here to teach me. With Adler’s arrival I’ve lost my “Instagram video location” because it turned into his room and this surprisingly stressed me out. How will I create clean, pretty videos for you guys?! 😱 Then I remembered you guys don’t follow me because of my pretty content you follow me because of my realness. So be prepared for some messy house yoga videos coming your way. Today when I miraculously got Adler to sleep without me holding him I did my PT exercises which consist of relaxing in cobra, childs pose and malasana. Then I decided to do a few squats, lunges, and try some handstands. For the first time in several months I tried handstanding and pleasantly surprised myself. I found balance much easier than I thought I would. The way my body is healing post c-section truly amazes me. I’ll be 8 weeks postpartum on Saturday. I’m still not doing anything vigorous. In fact I’m having a hard time motivating myself to do anything at all and that’s ok. I can tell my body is ready for movement though. Not to mention the mental benefits I know that I receive from moving. Yesterday I did 3 push-ups and was tired. 😂 Yet handstand feels relatively easy. The human body is such a beautiful machine. I have so much to write about my pregnancy, labor and postpartum journey and don’t have enough space in this little captions. If I started a blog on my website would you read it? Loving these super soft @aloyoga leggings. 💙

A few nights ago Mike and I were having one of our deep life chats about where we wanted to grow as individuals, what we wanted for our family, etc… It got me reflecting about how easily I can be strayed from my path. 12 years ago I started my yoga journey and three years into that I became a teacher. It’s hard to believe, but nine years later I have made a career out of sharing my passion for yoga and movement. I’ve learned my passion is not traveling the world and teaching although it’s quite fun and I’m so grateful for the people I meet when I do travel to teach. My passion is teaching at one local studio and building community. I love seeing the same people each week and watching, not only, their physical practice blossom but emotionally and mentally seeing them evolve too. After the dramatic entrance of our son Adler I’ve thought a lot about what I want out of 2018 and have come to the conclusion that I want to be home in Red Deer, AB more. This means weekly classes at @breathingroomrd! Fortunately I have partnered with @codyapp (who was recently acquired by @aloyoga) in a way that it makes it possible for me to stay home more next year. Lots of new online content headed your way! I will teach at a few festivals, but all travel will be limited. One thing I’d love to do is get two retreats set up for 2018. I’ve learned that I hate organizing retreats, but love leading them. Are any of you passionate about organizing these types of events? If so, message me! Let’s work together. 2018 is going to be the year I ask for help. I let others support me more, so that I can get back to focusing on my passions. What are you planning for your 2018? I’d love to hear from and learn more about you. This old picture taken by @fitflexjuli for @zenrezfitness serves as motivation for me to step back on to my mat consistently again now that I’ve been cleared to move! I’m a ways away from touching my feet to my head again, but with practice I’m sure it will come. Little known fact this picture was taken in April 2017 days before I found out I was pregnant. ☺️
