Homemade breadcrumbs. Because there should only be simple ingredients. We save the ends of our sprouted grain bread in the freezer until we have about a loaf’s worth. Cut in rough cubes, toss on baking sheets, toast in the oven (275 for about an hour or until completely dry). Blitz in the food processor until it has breadcrumb consistency.
Make sure all your bread pieces are completely dried out. Makes grinding them faster, easier, and more even.
Store in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 6 months. Add Italian herbs if you wish. Works the same with gluten-free bread. 😉

December 6th is Nikolaustag 🎅🏼 in Germany, so this morning my kiddos got their much anticipated gingerbread house kit. I’m 147% sure it won’t be as carefully decorated as this gorgeous gingerbread box from @borrowmyeyes , but then again, they’re 5 & 7 so let’s keep things realistic.
Yes, I let my kids have store bought candy, but we usually seek out items that at least avoid artificial colors, flavors, TBHQ, trans fats and such.
The gingerbread house kit I got is from @traderjoes and it’s decent. And I’m always hoping that they won’t actually eat the whole thing 😜🤣

Citrus season!!! 🍊🍋
My kids love the cuties clementines, I love almost all citrus - even blood oranges. Something about that deep red color... Too sour for ya? Try sautéing the segments in a bit of honey, and then use them for a topping for yogurt, oatmeal, or pancakes. Sooo delish!
Experiment in the kitchen. Sometimes it’ll taste like crap, sometimes you come up with something magical. 😉

Food makes us feel good. There’s no doubt about that. But it’s not the actual food that makes you feel happier, more at ease, less angry, less anxious, or depressed.
It’s what you subconsciously connect with that food.
And that’s emotions.
Your brain will remember Sunday night pasta dinner goes with happiness and laughter, and feeling loved. So the next time you’re looking for that feeling of being loved, and happy... guess what: you’re more likely to reach for that plate of pasta, than go visit your mom.
Sweets and alcohol may hit your pleasure center for a short while but your brain remembers that feeling and will ask for it again.
Stop and think before you drown your emotions in eggnog and cookies. There are things that make you smile that are not edible. Like chatting with an old friend. Some fresh flowers. A new book. A bit of sunshine in your face.
Look for the little bits of happiness outside your fridge. Just try it. .

Grounding to feel more grounded.
Trying to incorporate this more in my daily habits. Well, okay - weekly habits.
Just take 10 mins for yourself and touch the ground with your bare feet, breathing deeply and slowly. It’s incredibly calming, and leaning against a tree (or hugging it!) adds an extra boost of positive energy flow.
Don’t believe me? Try it. ❄️
If your ground is covered in snow, only do this as long as you can stand it (safely!). I don’t mean for anyone to get frostbite!!

Late, random lunch today. Just work with what you’ve got. In my case today: turkey jerky, veggies, and roasted broccoli with ghee, topped with this new snack mix I’m trying: roasted chickpeas with toasted walnuts, thyme, sea salt, and dried porcini powder. Tastes like the forest.
Made a few other ones to try different flavors: chai spice with raisins and cashews, and olive oil/rosemary/toasted pumpkin seeds/coconut chips.
Added a little bit too much salt to the forest mix tho 😜

A few weeks ago I hit a real bad low. It was one of those days where everything becomes too much, and you feel like you’re drowning in your adulting duties, chores, and responsibilities with no way out.
I broke down and sobbed.
Eventually I went for a walk, still crying, and did what I had never done before.
I reached out.
I asked for help from other moms.
And the best people in my life were there for me. Immediately.
With phone calls, texts, and flowers.
It felt so good.
Out of this destructive day, an idea was born, and I’m so damn excited to tell you guys, that in a couple of weeks, we are starting our own women’s accountability circle.
A place where we share what’s nagging us, and then help each other design the steps to tackle our issues. And the biggest part: we follow up. We meet again. We hold each other accountable and light a fire under our asses to get unstuck. To get things done. To move forward and upward.

I’m not over my cranberry phase yet, but these persimmons look aaaahhhmazing!! I might have to get some @brothersfarmersmarket this weekend.
Did you know that eating seasonal (and local) foods gives your body what it needs at the time you most benefit from it? For example, citrus fruits in the winter months provide you with extra vitamin C. Spring gives us lighter foods with lots of fresh greens, perfect for cleansing yourself from the heavier winter foods.
Just keep in mind that Christmas cookies don’t qualify as seasonal foods 😉

Rationing out the last of the cranberry sauce because it’s so good! Topping off my of overnight #glutenfree oats for breakfast today.
Wanna make it?
1/2 cup GF oats
1/4 c chopped walnuts
1 tbsp each of pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, hemp seeds, and
1/2 tbsp flax seeds
Soak in 1/2 - 3/4 cup almond milk for at least 4 hours or overnight.
Add 1 tbsp raisins and a
Couple of dashes of cinnamon
Sprinkle on some shredded coconut
Pour over a splash of canned coconut milk, and then top with
Big spoonful of cranberry sauce (or 1/2 chopped apple)
Enjoy!!

As much as I love my pumpkin pancakes, I can’t eat them every morning. So I made this beauty yesterday and had a slice this morning.
Sweet potato crust, maple sausage, sage, rosemary, spinach, and lotsa eggs.
Cut and freeze individual portions. I just reheat in the oven while I get my kids ready. Goes from frozen to warm in those 30-40 mins.

I had a piece of pumpkin pie with whipped cream every day since Thursday. Until it ran out. It’s not my usual eating habits. Me too, I indulged and had more than I was hungry for.
But tonight, we returned back to normal.
So, you might have gone overboard a bit. You probably felt lousy (or still do) from the foods you ate, drinks you had, and the water and sleep you’ve probably been lacking.
Just get back up again. Learn from it. Live through it. And now return to the foods and habits that you KNOW make you feel better.
On that note, I’m out. Time for bed!
