#Google's new #Daydream is designed for your couch, not your bag. #Google announced the second-generation #DaydreamView at the #Pixel2 event, where it opened preorders for an October 19th launch at $99. Like its predecessor, the View will work with any phone that supports Google's Daydream platform, including the Samsung Galaxy S8, S8 Plus, and Note 8. But Google says it's boosting the new View just a little higher on the VR ladder, with better optics and new materials. Google also promises performance and usability tweaks. The new View uses custom-designed wider lenses and has a field of view that's supposedly 10 to 15 degrees wider than before.  It's accessible, easy to use, and works as well as any other headset for 360-degree video, which fills a huge chunk of the time people spend in VR. 📷 @happicamp

The Lenovo Yoga 920 is the direct sequel to Lenovo’s Yoga 910 convertible laptop. Before every Windows PC company was making 2-in-1 computers, it was Lenovo’s line of 360-degree hinged laptops that pioneered the form factor, which combines a laptop design with some tablet functionality. The Yoga 920 is a premium computer that starts at $1,199. That gets you a Full HD display, 256GB SSD, 8GB of RAM, and an eighth-generation Core i5 processor. "I carry a bag because I need my laptop with me. And because I have a laptop-sized bag, I end up with a lot of junk that accumulates in the pockets and crevices. Therefore, I wouldn’t think of this setup as some sort of thoughtful expression of my needs and priorities. It’s more of a snapshot of what particular junk is the best at hiding.” — senior editor Paul Miller on the aesthetic of his bag. Check out our Instagram Story for the full breakdown. Elon Musk promised a surprise during the #Tesla Semi truck unveiling event, and he delivered: the return of the #Roadster. But it's no repeat performance. If the four-seater roadster measures up to Musk's claims, it will be the world's fastest production car. Musk claimed the base model will do 0 to 60 in 1.9 seconds, which would be the first time a production vehicle has cracked the two-second threshold. He also said the new Roadster would climb from 0 to 100 mph in 4.2 seconds, and will clear the quarter mile in 8.9 seconds. 📸 @teslamotors

DJI's Aeroscope technology can track rogue drones. With drones showing up at airports, disaster sites, even in baseball stadiums, public safety officials need to contend with them. In the second episode of Next Level season two, @laurengoode takes a look at DJI's solution for these drones. Click the link in our bio to watch the episode now. #dji #drones #vergenextlevel

#Shinola announced its very first headphones this week. It’s starting with four pairs: a wired over-ear and a wired on-ear, both of which go on sale right away, and two wired in-ear pairs expected to launch next month. Like Shinola’s watches, its headphones are first and foremost something nice to look at and hold, prioritizing style and build quality over remarkable technology. The $595 Canfield Over-Ears and the $495 Canfield On-Ears both have a similar look and a similar sound. Both are a stylish mixture of stainless steel and leather, and they each have a trustworthy heft to them. Those aren’t outrageous prices for headphones, but you can find models that sound great and look just as good for far less. 🔈🔊📸 @holowatyrose

#Amazon is turning #TheLordOfTheRings into a TV show, just in case the movies didn’t do it for you. Amazon has announced that it has acquired the TV rights for the book series, with a multi-season commitment. But the twist is that this will apparently be a prequel to The Lord of the Rings, rather than the story audiences already know so well. While Amazon hasn’t revealed how much it ultimately paid for the rights to the Lord of the Rings universe, a report from Deadline earlier this month claimed that Amazon, Netflix, and HBO were all originally approached about the project, with the rights alone priced in the $200 to $250 million range. To put that in perspective, Deadline also notes that the shopped price for the franchise would make it about as expensive as Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos’s entire acquisition of Washington Post, assuming Amazon actually paid close to the reported number. Would you watch? (Photo @amazon)

Take a look inside the #AstonMartin factory in the small village of Gaydon in Warwickshire, England. The company plans, designs, and build its cars here. A new Aston Martin is started every 26 minutes. Each car is scrutinized before it moves along the 200-hour build process in order to pass final inspection, sometimes conducted by the CEO himself. The #DB11, #Vanquish, #Rapide, and #Vantage models are made at the Gaydon factory. A new factory site will be constructed where the first Aston Martin crossover, the #DBX, will be built. In order to stay competitive in the world’s most promising luxury car market, it’s a matter of constantly adjusting. It’s a constant shifting business proposition: making desirable classic British sports cars in the present, and anticipating what those cars need to do to remain desirable in the future. The upcoming models, starting with the Vantage will test their progress. 🏎🏭 📸 @patrickgosling

#Amazon’s $119.99 #CloudCam checks all the right boxes at a very nice price. It's a relatively straightforward device that delivers all the features you would expect out of a home security camera. It doesn’t offer any cutting-edge features you can’t find elsewhere, or an innovative twist on remote monitoring, but it helps Amazon connect another piece of the puzzle. The Alexa voice controls are superb and it has a crisp 1080p video quality. However, it has limited people and pet tracking, and isn't weather sealed. Verge score: 8/10. A huge redesign is coming to #Snapchat in the coming weeks. “One thing we have heard over the years is that Snapchat is difficult to understand or hard to use, and our team has been working on responding to this feedback," said CEO Evan Spiegel in his earnings letter to Snap investors. And it sounds like whatever’s on the way is far bigger than just some minor user experience tweaks. Spiegel also says that Snap is exploring new ways of surfacing the app’s content “in a personalized and more relevant way, while still maintaining the exploratory nature of our service.” What do you think of the Snapchat user experience? 👻

#Apple CEO #TimCook doesn’t have a high opinion of platform-owning social media and advertising companies, most of which are now embroiled in an ongoing controversy about Russian interference in the 2016 US election. He said the big issue isn’t the advertisements targeting groups and individuals, but the overall nature of social media as a tool for misinformation and manipulation. "I don’t believe the big issue are ads from foreign governments. I believe that’s like .1 percent of the issue, the bigger issue is that some of these tools are used to divide people, to manipulate people, to get fake news to people in broad numbers so as to influence their thinking. This to me is the No. 1 through 10 issue.” What do you think? 💡

The $155 a #FossilQActivist is a watch first, smart second. The battery lasts 6 months before you have to replace it, and requires no charging. It has easily customizable buttons and integrates well with fitness apps. However, it doesn't track exercise or have any backlighting. The compatible app is also too confusing to use. Verge score: 7.5/10. Read the full review via the link in our bio. ⌚️ 📸 @vjeranp
