Knowing 'Future World Machines' through Spraycan Art. Seeing Bombin' on 5th gen tape to tape VHS. Seeing the Kemi piece in the pit at Westbourne Park in 199?. Buying a test press of '2G's 'Energy' in '94. Hearing Timeless the year after. The one thing I like about the UK, is how when hip hop met rave and evolved into breakbeat and d&b, it was still drenched in reggae and sound system influences from earlier generations. Timeless has it, Blue Lines definitely has it. Heads know.

Repost @brenneriveien
Brenneriveien called this piece Liquid Gold. I have a book by that same title, (but it's about peeing on plants to give them nitrogen).
Now, with that said, this super limited edition print can be yours for just 300nok.

23 years ago, at about this time of year, I bought a month pass with National Express, and travelled everywhere in Britain where I knew people that would have me stay. London, Portsmouth, Southampton, Cardiff, Liverpool, Newcastle. Which meant countless hours spent on motorways, driving through endless grey drizzle.

I had a Sony Walkman that could auto-loop tapes, and basically dozed, zoning out, staring at the grey. Somewhere, (I think perhaps at Weasel's Records in Soton?), I picked up a compilation cassette, titled 'Mystic Dub'. This tape blasted my love of Bob Marley far into the beyond, and ran more or less continually for the rest of that journey. I still have this tape, and apart from one track, have identified all of the recordings on it, collecting almost all of these on vinyl. Dubs of the works of artists such as Augustus Pablo, Hugh Mundell, Mad Professor, Black Uhuru, Dennis Bovell, Wailing Souls, Adrian Sherwood, and of course, Jah Shaka.

Mystic Dub in misty rains, well this somehow cemented itself in my consciousness. Safe to say, one of my greatest influences in life, and unquestionably the most enduring.

This morning at the end of 2017, I set off at 5.45am - to ride a coach. I am now zoning out and looking at greyness, London-bound from Liverpool. Playing on the phone, is Jah Shaka's 'New Testament of Dub Vol. 2'. I salute all those that step out of Babylon, but my first steps along these lines - weren't so much about steppin', as a series of bus rides. And it wasn't so much about monsterous vibrating sound systems, as a tape player and some crappy earplugs. The space and contemplative meditations of chopped up reggae that entered through these though; echoing, reverberating and distorting themselves, all served to open something vast and brilliant, that was never to close. And this continues to continue; irrespective of paths and roads travelled, crossed, or abandoned. Meditation music; journeys through the endless ocean of infinite sound.

Looking outside: the grey - looking within right now: Zion.

May all sentient beings arrive there, by whichever roads Jah deems necessary, with guidance, protection, love, joy, compassion and equanimity.
