96 Mayfair
Ruth 1
In the fall of 2003, I sat in a coliseum full of women at a Beth Moore conference where she was teaching on Ruth.
I was at the end of a bitter tasting divorce, less than 2 years after I had gotten married, and completely heartbroken that anything like this could ever happen in my life. How could so much be taken from me against my will? It was a tough time for me to understand friends. As I sat there, a young woman of 22, I opened my Bible and listened to a beautiful teaching about Ruth's life. At the end of chapter 1, it says that they came to Bethlehem at the beginning of barley harvest. She stopped in her teaching right there and said something that I will never forget. "Your greatest loss may come just before your greatest harvest." The Holy Spirit stirred those words in my soul so deeply and my eyes filled with tears. I knew those words were for me. I mean, it was sweet that all of those other thousands of women were there, but that part, it was FOR ME! The Holy Spirit comforted me with that over and over again.
Looking back on it, it seems even sweeter. It was less than a year later that the Lord began to allow me to reap a beautiful harvest in my life.
Friends, the harvest can only be gathered with empty arms. He gives and He takes away, but as his child I can rest in Romans 8:28 "For we know that all things work together for the GOOD of those who love him and are called according to his purpose."
He sees the whole picture. He knows your losses and your harvests, and he's working it ALL together for your good. I can't begin to tell you what a good, good Father He is!!! ❤️ (My wheat (barley) is inspired fully by @christy_fae 🌾🌾🌾😘) .

There’s something so powerful about writing out Scripture!
It makes you slow down and see each word. It makes you think about the words, both as a whole and individually, which is a great benefit in study. It provides a built in time for meditation on the Word.
For me, it’s incredibly enjoyable to slowly write down these words that are life and breath to me.
If you’ve never tried writing Scripture, I can’t recommend it highly enough. You don’t need a plan, though there are some great ones out there. Just pick a passage ...or a chapter ...or a book ...and begin writing. It’s a great addition to your normal bible reading/prayer/study time. You’ll be amazed at the treasures you’ll find! 🙌🏼💕 P.S. For those of you that are newer around here, I normally do this in a journal every morning, rather than my Bible, but I wanted to change it up a little today. 😜
Start today, you won’t regret a minute spent in His Word! 💕🙌🏼 .

Reading through this passage in Matthew yesterday, I was reminded of this quote by Spurgeon, “Child of God, you cost Christ too much for Him to forget you.” It’s true, you know. You’re in no danger of being forgotten, no matter what your emotions or your heart tell you. There is no reason to fear or worry when we are securely planted in the palm of His hand.
In Matthew, this passage comes right after Jesus talks about persecution (real, life threatening, persecution, not a little picking on...) and right before he talks about how He won’t be accepted by everyone, including family, and we will have to make tough decisions about where our allegiance lies. Jesus is telling us here to not worry about what man can do to us... He’s sovereign over sparrows and He’s sovereign over us.
Most (probably none) of us have experienced life threatening persecution, but so many of our brothers and sisters around the globe haven’t been, and aren’t, so fortunate. Friends, we fear and worry over far less... and we should repent. If we can trust our Father with our eternity, then we can certainly trust Him for our here and now! On earth, we are His most prized possession, and we are in no danger of being pushed aside, overlooked, or forgotten.
If you are feeling any of those things, today, know that those are lies from the enemy who loves to see you wallow in yourself! Fix your gaze on Jesus and know, because He has told you, that you are valued, loved and attended to by Him. 💕🙌🏼

I know I always write long captions, but I just want to kind of leave this here... as a prayer.
May your joy burst forth through the old and dead... peeking through, first, as just a tiny speck of fresh spring green... then precisely on cue, just a single, perfectly beautiful bud. And before you have time to plan for or expect it, all of the old, seemingly dead places are bursting with the vibrancy and joy of blossoms, too many to even count. .
That’s my prayer. For all of us who’ve left their old, dead, pile of ashes in His hands. And if you’re still sitting in and holding on to your pile of ashes, don’t be afraid to hand them over. It’s all you have left, I know, but they do you no good. Our Father, on the other hand, makes all things new, and He can and will make more beauty than you ever thought possible...After all, He’s in the business of redemption stories. 💕🌱🙌🏼 .

The Holy Spirit. Our Helper. Third person of the triune God.
He is what makes living a life that honors God possible. He guides us in truth. He speaks only what the Father says. He glorifies Jesus! .
I used to always think it would be so amazing to have been a disciple and to have Jesus WITH me, tangibly. But I’m so often reminded of this passage where Jesus tells us how much better it will be for Him to go, and for the Spirit to come. Friends, what we have in the Holy Spirit is a tremendous gift!🙌🏼
We, as believers, are instructed several times in the New Testament to walk by the Spirit. In other words, we have to continually put to death the desires of our flesh and we have to instead walk in the Spirit and allow Him to produce good fruit in us. If we continue to gratify our flesh, we are not walking by the Spirit. We can’t gratify our flesh and still live by the Spirit. The flesh and the Spirit are opposed to one another, and it is impossible to serve both. With every action, we choose one or the other.
Occasionally gratifying our flesh because it is easier, or because it feels good, or because we deserve some “down time” should not be an option for the Spirit filled believer. Now, of course, we’re gonna struggle with it. As long as we have our sin-bent earthly bodies, we will struggle. But what gives me so much joy and comfort is knowing that I have sufficient grace to resist the devil and the flesh. Thanks to Christ! And also, knowing that while it is my decision to walk in the Spirit, it’s not my responsibility to produce the fruit of the Spirit. The Holy Spirit does it for us! He takes care of it! I’m so thankful for the Holy Spirit in my life, and am grateful the He leads me and guides me in ways that I would never be capable of on my own. I’m thankful for His conviction. I’m thankful for the fruit He produces. .
Thank Him today for being such a wonderful Helper! 🙌🏼💕💕💕 .

Jesus said of John the Baptist, “...among those born of women there has arisen no one greater...” Wow! What a compliment! Coming from Jesus, especially.
And what does John say?: “[Jesus’] sandals I am not worthy to untie.” .
“He must increase, and I must decrease.”

Here are some lessons I learned from John the Baptist this morning. (I’ve turned them into personal declarations and posted them in my story too.)
🌱 I will not pretend to be someone who I am not to be more popular, but I will use all of the God given tools and gifts at my disposal to share Christ with as many people as possible. .
🌱I will not indulge in sin in order to seem more relatable or approachable to others, but I will tell you how Jesus freed me from the bondage of it. .
🌱I will not water down or change in any way the message of the Gospel, but I will share how absolute freedom is found under complete submission to Christ, and how it is a beautiful and joyful daily death to self. .
🌱I will seek Him and serve Him with my whole heart, knowing that it makes me look like a weirdo and knowing that it separates me, in many ways, from the world I am living in and called to preach the Gospel to. .
It’s so encouraging to see John be exactly who God made Him to be! He wasn’t caught up in being, looking, or acting like the world around Him. He just stayed in His lane and paved the way for Jesus!
Father, help me to have the surety to know whose and who I am, serving you wholeheartedly. May my life be a pleasing offering. 💕💕💕
May we remember that “greatest” is not the goal, though; Christ is! 🙌🏼 .

I cannot put into words what a gift art and lettering have been to me as a tool to help me memorize and meditate on God’s Word! ...And for the Lord to use it as a way to share Him with others has been a lovely and unexpected gift as well. So when I run across something that I feel like is a good resource for others who are interested, I can’t help but share! 😘💕
Friends! I can’t tell you how beautifully done this book and journal are! @krystalwhitten nailed it! This is MORE than just a lettering book. It is chock-full of any and every thing that you could dream of as far as lettering is concerned, yes, but there are also sections explaining doodles, layouts, sermon notes, and more!
I can honestly say that this book would be a wonderful wealth of information for a beginner letterer, but I can also tell you that it’s not limited to that. I’ve learned lots just from my first flash read through, and I’m looking forward to jumping in and learning ALL THE THINGS soon!
Y’all wanna see more? Swipe through these pics. There’s even a quick flip through to show the different styles of pages in the companion journal. (Which I highly recommend to go along with the book🤓) Also, did mention how gorgeous it is with the gold foil, debossing pattern, and the pen holder on the side?😍 Today is the last day to pre-order “Faith & Lettering”, so if you are thinking about it, go ahead and order today to get some really fun freebies from Krystal. The book officially launches tomorrow. Head over to @krystalwhitten ‘s feed for ordering details! 💕 .

When I read through Revelation 21 this morning, this verse struck me: “...He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.”
This promise is the same one God made to His people probably 25 times throughout the Bible. I remember it so many times in the Old Testament, and then as I read it as John’s vision fulfilled, it was such a comfort! I mean this whole passage is so comforting.🙌🏼 HE will wipe away every tear! ♥️ THIS is LOVE, friends! An unwavering, undying, unshakable love that God has had for His children from before time began. And to think of this Love - this union - actualized thrills my soul unlike anything else! When this day becomes our present reality, our earthly heartaches and struggles will fade and we’ll be left with an eternity of the glory of Jesus. 🙌🏼 This line from @crowdermusic song was just perfect here. What a beautiful truth to cling to! 💕 .

Romans 13
We MUST get this right! We know we are called to this, but it’s another thing, entirely, to DO this! We must LOVE! Love our families. Love our church. Love our coworkers. Love our enemies. Love those we disagree with. Love the rude. Love the proud. Love the arrogant. Love those that are flat out wrong! Love those who believe in living in sins that break our Father’s heart! Love them. Not agree with them, or validate their untruths, or become like them in order to gain trust... just love them. Treat them with kindness and respect. Speak to them in truth and love whether they want to hear it or not. Be there for them in their times of need. Share what you have with them. .
Why? Not because I’m “better” than anyone, because any merit in me is because of Christ... not because it makes me look good or “Christianity” look good, though it is important to carry the name of Christ well... but I need to love them because they ALL bear the image of God! ALL of them. And we must love them as we love ourselves, as fellow image bearers.
Again, we know this, but I want to be better at practicing this. I want to not just know, and act like it with my deeds, I want to know and do it with my heart! .
Who do you need to start loving? How can you do that in a way that honors God? .

Reading through Ruth with my girls has got us all singing this song by @lauren_daigle ... Oh friends, no matter what we see, He’s already worked it out! No matter how completely lonely or hopeless our situation seems, He has already redeemed it!
It can be hard to live in God’s promises when we don’t see them fulfilled, but there is more to our lives than what we see. Our lives are a part of a much larger story: His story! And He may be doing something right now that won’t be seen for generations to come, but He gives us the promise of a hope and a future as His people! We MUST be faithful stewards of our part of the story... WHATEVER that is! And if you look carefully, you’ll see redemption woven through the entirety of it! .
May we stand strong in His Word and in our calling, knowing that we are His and we are loved! This life is but a vapor, and eternity is longer than we can fathom... and our promised eternity is ridiculous!!! (In the very best way) ...Heirs to His kingdom, friends!
Father, help me to humbly serve you however you see fit! May my life shine your glory in every way! Thank you for your unrelenting love! ♥️🙌🏼 .

I’ve been there too, Moses! 🙋🏻‍♀️ And I’m reminded over and over again that God isn’t looking for the most attractive, the most talented, the most eloquent, or even the most qualified... He’s looking for servants. Surrendered servants.
So the next time you think you’re not up for the task at hand, remember this : you’re not! You can’t do it... but He can! And He will! Whom He calls; He equips for the glory of His name! .
I’m so thankful that He often uses the every day, the plain and the ordinary to make Himself great in! What a good Father! 🙌🏼💙

Paul says to “test ourselves” to see if we are in the faith. Because this is way too important to get wrong... just knowing about Jesus and going to church does not warrant salvation. We can’t just go to church on Sunday, being numb to an all too familiar story (for many of us), and walk out and live dangerously close to the the rest of the world for the rest of the week. Jesus isn’t just an add on into our lives... He’s not just a hitchhiker we pick up on our journey to ride along with us as we go on our merry way... Jesus is an all consuming fire and a total direction changer. But it’s just our human nature to slip back into our comforts and ways of this life, and that’s why our brother Paul warns us and reminds us to test ourselves.
Here are some questions we can ask to test ourselves:
⚫️1)Do I act the same at work/home as I do at church? ⚫️2)Do I enjoy spending time with God in His Word, in prayer, and with other believers?
⚫️3)Do I genuinely love others, regardless of race, class, or anything else as fellow image bearers of God?
⚫️4)Do I entertain myself with things that go against the teachings of the Bible?
⚫️5)Do I often find myself seeking revenge or holding grudges over wrongdoings against me? ⚫️6)Do I make time daily for God, or do I make excuses daily to God? .
Obviously, this isn’t an exhaustive list, but it’s a good start for self examination...
If we are honest, we will struggle with at least one of these from time to time, but it helps us to see where our heart is. We aren’t bound by laws or works, but our actions reflect our hearts, and examining our works and actions regularly can help us to see where repentance is needed.
We fall into the ways of this world so easily, and living righteously in a way that honors Christ will not happen without grace driven effort... this is why Paul’s says this: “test yourselves”! .
Father, give me the courage to test myself regularly, and to be honest about the condition of my heart and the fruit of my life. I want to honor you with all that I have and all that I am, because you are worthy of my ALL! Thank you for the grace that makes this possible, and for your unconditional love that never leaves me! ♥️

BOTH are valuable, but one is of value is EVERY way! I love that! .
It’s important that we care for our bodies and stay in good physical shape (as far as depends on us) so we can serve the Lord with our best! .
But there is a fine line... it’s easy to either get lazy with our fitness and greedy with our food (🙈🙋🏻‍♀️) or to go the opposite direction and become obsessive over our looks and nourishment (🙋🏻‍♀️also me🙈). A balance can be hard to find... The times I am most successful is when I remember this verse! It helps with my perspective. My physical fitness is only useful as far as I can serve the Lord with it. I want to live a long and healthy life so that I can serve the Lord with by best time, energy, and mind. And THAT should be our goal in physical fitness! And that looks different for everybody because He made us all differently and with different physical limitations and capabilities, but I am responsible for making MY temple as healthy and as useful as I can for His glory! .

But for every minute an ounce of energy I devote toward my physical fitness, I should probably devote at least twice that to my Spiritual fitness! Because THAT is what will make an eternal difference... investing in something that no one or nothing can take away... that is a wise investment. 🤓
Let’s not neglect our Spiritual training! Set goals! Work hard! Grow! Know that this investment has greater returns than what we currently see, and the rewards are more glorious than we can imagine! 💕🙌🏼

Matthew 11
Isn’t it just beautiful how you can know a passage of scripture for most of your life, and then all of a sudden the Holy Spirit just slams you with something you’ve never seen before?! I love that! This is why His Word never gets old!
Yesterday in church, as our guest speaker was teaching through this passage, this part really stood out to me. “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me”... and I pictured myself being yoked to Christ. That’s how I learn from Him! I take His yoke, and I watch Him. I navigate as He navigates, watching every step, every move, listening carefully to the way He breathes... I stay yoked to Him. I watch. I imitate. I learn.
Not by sitting back or by standing by, but by picking up the yoke right next to Him and moving with Him! 🙌🏼 .
What an offer! It always floors me to know that our Savior wants to be right here with us in our daily fight. “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.” (Hebrews 4:15)
♥️♥️♥️ He’s good to us, friends! So good!!! .
Picking up His yoke and moving with Him today, what about you?🤓

The act of obedience is easy to master, but the heart of obedience is much more important! ♥️ Philippians 2:14

It is easy to become weary in doing the same things day after day. It’s also easy to go through the motions of all we are supposed to do, but if our heart is complaining the whole time, who are we serving? Even more convicting, who are representing with our complaints and grumblings?
The verse right after this says that by keeping our hearts and actions pure in this area, we will Be lights in the world!
Cynicism and complaining look familiar to the World, but a joyful, serving heart points the way to Christ! 🙌🏼 .
WE get the great privilege of doing that in our daily, and often mundane tasks, whatever they may be. We get the chance to shine. .
Am I using those chances, or squandering them away? .
What would my coworkers say? My boss? My husband? My children? .
Lord help my heart to be one of joyful obedience rather than one of grumbling duty. Help me to shine in my everyday tasks, so that I will be a witness and testament to your grace and joy! ♥️ .

Old things have passed away, and behold... .
When we are born again, a change begins to happen in us... we begin the lifelong process of sanctification. And the really amazing thing is that we are not responsible for our own sanctification, Christ is! This is where it gets tricky, though. Just because we aren’t responsible for it, doesn’t mean that we don’t carry any responsibility for it. It’s like with my kids... they are not responsible for keeping their parents’ house clean, (the responsibility lies on us), but they do carry responsibility for it. There are certain things expected of them, and more and more as they mature... it’s similar with our Christian walk. Christ is responsible for accomplishing sanctification (and He will), but as we mature, He gives us more and more responsibility... to help us, to grow us, and to make us more like Himself. It’s up to us to take on the responsibilities that lead to our growth. .

I don’t think any of us want to be the proverbial 37 year old living in our parents’ basement playing video games all day, but there are many Christians who have been saved for years, but are not yet mature in their faith because they neglect their Spiritual responsibilities. .
Behold, the new has come! Embrace the work Christ has done for you, take up your cross daily and follow Him, and stand amazed at the beautiful things He accomplishes in you! .

The Life and love that surround us is undeniable... I said it yesterday, but it’s so incredibly true that God is the most amazing Creator! I love watching documentaries ...about earth, about people, animals, all the way up to the entire known universe.

Oh friends! No matter how hopeless the situation, no matter how dark the night or how bleak the winter, He gives us what we need! .

Our DAILY bread, though. What we need for the day. We often want to see the stockpile of everything heading our way. We have comfort and safety in what we can see... in what we can touch. But it’s hard to feel secure when what we have in our possession is only what we need for the moment...even harder if we are standing empty handed waiting for what we need. .
But God keeps His promises! He can’t NOT... it would be contrary to His character. This is why we are reminded to look to the unseen... this is why we shouldn’t put our trust in horses or chariots... this is why we are told not to worry about tomorrow... Because we are held in His sovereign hand! .
He loves us and has planned for our good and for His glory! And when we pray for our daily bread, manna will fall! 🙌🏼 Count on it, plan for it, and come to Him empty to be filled! .

This for 2018!
In all.
Above all. .
Every year for probably the last 15 years on and off, and specifically the last 7 or 8 years, I’ve read the through the Bible every year. You know the drill, get a plan, follow the plan... that’s what I’ve done... and I can honestly say that reading through the Bible as the cohesive story of Jesus has taught me more and blessed me more than any devotional or study (apart from just the Bible) ever has or could. That’s why I just keep reading through... there is so much in there! And like any good book, one time is not enough! 1000 times will not be enough, as there’s so much more to learn, to see, more to know... but this book is unlike any other. Because these words are not just ink on a page, because these words are not just truth, but because these words, THE WORD, is living and active. Something supernatural happens when you read this story over and over... the Word fills you, the Word forms you, and TRANSFORMS you by the power of the Holy Spirit!
I’m so very excited to see so many planning to read through the Bible this year! Let me encourage you to stick with it... to fight for it... to push through it... no matter the circumstance! Don’t stop. If you get behind, don’t feel like you have to “catch-up”, just pick up where you left off and keep going. It may take more than a year. (It took me 2 1/2 to make it through the first time) You may not understand everything. You may get downright confused. It’s ok. Slow down, plow around, push through... but don’t give up!
It will most assuredly be one of your biggest blessings of the year! ♥️ .
All that to say: I am not reading THROUGH the Bible this year... 😂
I’m focusing on a few books to study and memorize. I’m still reading passages throughout the Bible, but I’m not going all the way through this year... I will still be sharing pages and writing, and maybe even sharing some memory work with y’all via my IG stories. Can’t wait to hear all of the treasures y’all uncover too! ♥️🤓 🎉🎉🎉 .
PS. If you are looking for a one year plan, you can find one and join in over @illustratedfaith ‘s print and pray shop. ♥️
