Here's a selection of images from the 2018 Torchlight Parade that was held last night on Hudson Bay Mountain. My goal was not necessarily to make the cleanest/sharpest of images. Instead, I wanted to make photos that gave you the viewer a sense of what it was like to experience the event for yourself. I wanted the photos to have soul.

I hope I accomplished this.

STARRY NIGHT

This was the last photo I made right before I drove down from the ski hill last night. I had come from the lounge where the group of skiers I had just finished the torchlight parade with (photos to come) were warming up.
I had started the car to defrost the windshield and to help pass the time while the car warmed up, I walked over to the edge of the parking lot to make gaze up in wonder at the sky.

I hope you like it. It certainly did wonders for my soul.

On my way up the mountain yesterday, I followed a group on snowshoes and x-country skis. At a certain point, they took a lower angle approach and I turned more uphill. A while later, I looked back towards the treeline and saw the skiers heading back down the mountain. I made a few exposures, but liked this one the best as they were more directly under the sun, and even framed by some of the blowing snow beneath them.

Some examples of the single-exposure images I made in 2017 while enjoying the firepit in my backyard.

It was a snowy, fog-filled day shovelling snow off the roof of the lodge on the ski hill.

One of my favourite things to see, regardless of the time of day: snow falling from the sky. As has been my custom since the beginning of December 2013, when it's snowing, I go outside and stand under the streetlight next to my house, look up and photograph the falling snow. In this case, it was shot at 9am this morning, and I tried an external flash to illuminate the flakes against the sky.

Both the moon and mist were going to bed this morning as the sun took its turn in the sky.
