This time last year I was celebrating my birthday in the middle of the Atlantic onboard a 60 ft yacht with 9 other strangers who quickly became good friends. We had just left the Azores and were sailing to the island of Madeira with our final destination being Gibraltar about 10 days and 1,200 nautical miles later. It was the first time I had ever been sailing and I was part of the crew.
.
.
I was worried it would scare me to be out in the middle of the ocean not seeing anything but the sea, but I learned that I actually loved it. I had the same feeling of calm and peace I have when I am out in the mountains. We sailed day and night for 5 days straight and seeing the bright Milky Way at night and the specks of glowing bioluminescent phytoplankton at night was unforgettable.
.
.
It's been a rollercoaster year with lots of highs and a few lows. I was able to travel for work for the first time ever and got to visit places I probably wouldn't have made on my own. I made some new friends and was able to grow closer to existing friends. I've learned some new life lessons and had to repeat a few that I just can't seem to grasp the first time around. Here's to another year of life and new adventures! My only hope is that my highs will outnumber the lows and there will be more adventures to look forward to. :)

“Fall has always been my favorite season. The time when everything bursts with its last beauty, as if nature had been saving up all year for the grand finale.” ― Lauren DeStefano

I finally was able to get out and see the fall colors. They are starting to fade, but I was pleasantly surprised to find some beautiful autumn views. Plus, I found a new trail I never knew about just 10 minutes from my house. Love that I get to live in a place where the mountains are so close!

Prayer flags have a lot more meaning and symbolism behind them than I think a lot of people realize. I first learned about prayer flags during my trek to Everest Base Camp three years ago. It was in Nepal that I learned prayer flags come in two ways - vertical and horizontal. Prayer flags come in 5 colors and each color means something different and they are always arranged in a particular order. From left to right you have blue, white, red, green and yellow. The 5 colors represent the 5 different elements. Blue symbolizes the sky and space, white is the air and wind, red is fire, green is water, and yellow symbolizes earth. Health and harmony come through the balance of these 5 elements. Traditional prayers and mantras are written on the flags and the belief is that as the wind blows across the flags, these prayers spread goodwill and compassion for the benefit of all. The flags are considered sacred and they're often hung in high places so the wind can carry the blessings to all beings. .
.
I loved seeing the prayer flags across Nepal along our hike and at Everest Base Camp. They always seemed to give me strength and peace as I thought about the prayers being blown into the wind. I even brought a few home with me as gifts and to be a reminder of that amazing experience. I'm curious, for those of you who have prayer flags or have seen them, what do they mean to you?

"Once the travel bug bites, there is no known antidote, and I know that I shall be happily infected until the end of my life." ― Michael Palin.
That darn travel bug...not sure I'll ever be cured. This time of year always sparks memories of past adventures and looking forward to new ones!

Good role models have been an important part of my life and I LOVE the idea for this new magazine called "Bravery." It's a children's magazine that features STRONG, female role models with fun activities, stories, and just good old fashioned goodness. It's something I will be sharing with my nieces. Please check it out and see if it's something you'd like to support. We could always use more good, strong female role models in our lives! Link to learn more is in my bio. 📷 by: @bravery_mag #bravegirls #beyourownsuperhero #bebrave

Catching the eclipse through a colander, the shadows of the leaves, and binoculars that magnified the eclipse. So fun to see everyone gathered to watch it. We all kept passing around eclipse glasses so everyone could see. People are good. Faith in humanity restored. :) #solareclipse #templesquare #peopleareawesome

Woke up thinking about my time in Norway last week. I hate how it already feels like a dream. Here's a video shot on our hike to Pulpit Rock aka Preikestolen. We missed the sunrise at the rock, but still witnessed that amazing sky just 15 minutes away. It was worth the 2:30am wake up call and the early morning hike. Moments like these are worth remembering! Spectacular place and wonderful people to share it with! #norway🇳🇴 #preikestolen #girlscamp @cecilie.lundgreen @lissiolsen2000 @beathesupergirl
So another girl's camp is in the books and I may never top this one! What an experience it was to join a good friend in Norway for her first ever girl's camp and meet her wonderful young women!! We were in a beautiful place, with wonderful girls and leaders, and we had a great time! We had lots of rain (I'm beginning to believe it's required at girl's camp), some sun, wind so strong it blew a few tents down, lots of dance parties, banana pancakes, a surprise birthday party, an epic hike to Pulpit Rock, self defense and first aid classes, and just some good girl time!! I met some wonderful people, made new friends, and am already trying to figure out how I can make it back to Norway as soon as possible! So grateful for a once in a lifetime opportunity and some unforgettable memories! #girlscamp #norway🇳🇴 #camp773

Here's a few more views during the early morning, sunrise hike to Pulpit Rock aka Preikestolen in Norway today. The views were stunning and the clouds were magnificent. I'd have to say, fjords are one of my favorite things. 😁 By the way, I've been sharing videos through my Instagram stories, so feel free to check those out too. #ilovenorway #girlscamp #pulpitrock

Pulpit Rock and a rare shot of me jumping. I'm not normally afraid of heights, but the very abrupt and sheer drop off made me a tad nervous. It was a beautiful view and we had the rock to ourselves for awhile which was wonderful! We woke up at 2:30am to try and see the sunrise from Pulpit Rock. We ended up being a tad slow and missed the sunrise at the rock, but had another stunning views of other parts that were equally majestic. All of the girls who woke up and made the hike, made it to the top! They totally rocked it!! It wasn't an easy hike and I'd say we hiked 8 miles or so. Seriously, they know how to do girl's camp in Norway! #norway🇳🇴 #girlscamp #pulpitrock #preikestolen

In Norway, you can drink the water straight from the streams. It's cold and some of the best water I've ever tasted!! Just another stop along our road trip through Norway on our way to girl's camp. #norway🇳🇴 #girlscamp #waterfalls #cleanwater
