Situated adjacent to the White House, the Eisenhower Executive Office Building looms large over its more famous neighbor. The building has served many purposes over its 130 years, but today it’s home to the Executive Office of the President and the many, many agencies falling under that organization.

Eagle-eyed viewers will spot the White House and the Eisenhower Executive Office Building among other well-known features.

The Floral Library

We stumbled upon part of the Floral Library while walking around the Tidal Basin. I’d never taken notice of this particular feature tucked between Independence Ave. SW and Maine Ave. SW.

From the mallhistory.org website: “Also known as the Tulip Library, the Floral Library was established in 1969 as part of Lady Bird Johnson’s Capital Beautification Project. The ‘library’ has 93 flower beds maintained by the National Park Service.” #florallibrary #flowers #colorful #tidalbasin #washingtondc
Takeoff

Vertical panoramas are strange enough in their own right, but this one turned out particularly weird with the banding in the sky toward the top. I took advantage of the effect and cranked up the processing to give the capture a gloomy, film quality.

Greetings from Gwynedd, PA

The William Penn Inn has provided food, drink, and shelter to travelers for over 300 years. First established as a public house in 1714, the Inn today operates as a restaurant and event space. Not a bad place for a wedding…
Tony & Veronica

My dear friends hosted me for a couple of days at their beautiful home in St. Louis. They made sure I had a comfortable bed, a quiet place to work, and access to more BBQ than I could possibly eat.

Found this wonderful piece of art on the side of Edo’s Squid in The Fan.
“Play ball!” Can’t argue with the view we had from right field for Wednesday’s home game against the Orioles. We left at the bottom of the seventh before the Nats went on to a come-from-behind win. Go figure!

I Made America Great Again

Walking home from dinner, we came across a small fire lit by someone upset by the day's events. I feel you, friend. I really do.

But if you're gonna light fire to this hate-inspired, poorly-manufactured piece of headgear, do it far away from the few trees in my neighborhood. Remember: [only you can prevent forest fires](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smokey_Bear). I'd rather not have to stomp out your hard work again.

Thanks, Obama.

No, seriously. Thank you for your service to our country over the last eight years. History will eventually rank your Presidency against that of our other Commanders in Chief, but as far as I’m concerned, you’ve been a pretty darn good President. Certainly the best we’ve had in my lifetime, though that’s an admittedly limited perspective.

We don’t agree on everything, naturally. I wish you’d been able to close down the prison at Guantanamo Bay. Your expansion of the government’s surveillance apparatus leaves open far too many opportunities for abuse of those powers. Your administration’s use of drones to assassinate suspected terrorists raises all kinds of moral and ethical questions.

There’s more, but those are outweighed by your list of accomplishments: averting an economic depression, guaranteeing marriage equality nationwide, banning torture, expanding health insurance coverage to 20 million more Americans… The list goes on.

But despite all of the problems and setbacks and Congressional intransigence, you remain hopeful. After eight years, you still believe in the goodness of the American people and the promise of the American Dream. You’ve not let cynicism creep in and erode that faith in your fellow citizens. That’s worthy of admiration and is certainly something I need to keep in mind.

Eight years ago, you inspired many of us with your campaign’s theme: Yes, we can. Eight years later, your message has only grown in importance.

After your farewell address, you wrote:

My last ask is the same as my first. I’m asking you to believe—not in my ability to create change, but in yours.

Yes, we can.

Thanks, Mr. President.

Election Eve Magic Hour

As you’ve no doubt heard, tomorrow’s Election Day here in America. I proudly cast my ballot ten days ago for the first woman nominated to be President from a major party in United States history. No candidate for office will ever fully meet your definition of perfect, but in this election more than any other, the choice is clear as to which candidate best represents my values and, for that matter, American values.

If you live in a place with candidates running for state and local offices, I encourage you to research those candidates’ ideas and positions before casting your ballot tomorrow. State and local elections matter just as much—and in some cases more—than those for national offices.

If you’re not registered to vote, you can find out how to register at vote.gov. Some states allow for same-day voter registration. Get out there and exercise your rights!

If you’re already registered, you can find information on your polling place and the hours during which you can vote tomorrow, head over to iwillvote.com. #whitehouse #washingtondc #election2016
