This makes me want to reach for the sun, but I'd be happy if I️ could just reach the counter at 7-11 #tinypeopleproblems

It isn't easy getting what we want, and I prefer it this way. I posted last week that I was uncertain which apartment I would get--a renovated, exposed brick beauty or a more classic and quirky unit in the same building.

I was easily approved for the classic unit, but because of some novice mistakes on my application, they needed a bit more information to approve me for the renovated space. I wasn't sure providing them the additional detail would help and I realized I was not as elated as I thought I would be to essentially have the classic space. I voiced my concern to a close friend. She asked a simple question: why? Why wasn't I elated? I hadn't thought to query myself this way.

Without much thought, the words just fell from my mouth. "The renovated unit is something I have always wanted. The classic unit would be a comfortable norm."

In my living spaces, I've always made do with what I was presented. I've never had a totally put together space with current design, so I've always found eclectic ways to merge my tastes with what I cannot change--quirks. I love decorating, and being creative with alleyway finds and such. But character is something I have embraced as a result of perceived tight times and not being "able" to purchase new things. I've started to believe myself that I am always in tough times; that I am stuck with this repetitive cycle of settling for character and building on things from the past.

I've been working with a life coach the past couple of months and if there is anything I've come to see, it is that there is no use in building on a broken and shaky, old foundation just because you're used to living on that lot. Wouldn't it make sense to look for a fresh plot of land and build from something new?

So, I pushed, and on Valentine's Day was told that I was awarded the renovated unit. A fresh start in a new take on an "Old Rose Brick" building from the 1920s. I didn't need a Valentine. Life keeps coming up roses resistant as I have been to the surprise bouquet!

Took some negative thoughts out of our subconscious by transferring them and their corresponding thoughts onto paper and then burning them. Profoundly powerful. @dandapanillc thank you. #eocolorado #monklove
