officially on ‘spring break’ & taking advantage of this time so i’m headed home to CA. San Diego & Los Angeles to be specific. I’m so excited for some sun, the vibe and to catch up with friends and family. I will always be a CA girl. There so many things to do but some of my favorites are of course yoga, the hikes, delicious korean bbq, mexican food and the beach. what are your favorite things to do in CA?

have you listened to the recent Nutrition Matters podcast with @paigesmathersrd and @fionawiller? it’s wonderful and talks about many of the limitations and biases in current research around weight science. many of these things are “understood as truth” and yet, there are significant flaws in the research and real life application of these “truths.” the weight neutral paradigm is very misunderstood, and we need to do a better job of reiterating what the weight neutral framework really means.

simply put, a weight neutral practice means practicing health supporting behaviors, listening to your body, thinking critically and working through self acceptance and self compassion. how can we strive for whole person health without allowing these biases to bring weight into the conversation? as Fiona puts it, the paradigm isn’t anti weight change as an outcome, but is against the pursuit of intentional weight loss given how futile, unpredictable and downright harmful it can be.

if this feels foreign and scary, what assumptions around health and weight would benefit from re-evaluation? how can we treat all folks with respect? what can we do to recognize our biases around weight? how can we offer up this path as an option, allowing clients to choose what will serve them best?

all these thoughts swirling in my head... plus, i’m dreaming of the experience from Malibu Farm last week in California. i usually like some bread with my BLTs, but we shared this BLT salad with other entrees and got carbs elsewhere. it was delicious and a tastebud celebration.
