Like many people I talk to now, that don't do yoga, my idea of it before was kind of distorted. Thinking only of sitting around in lotus, standing in tree pose, doing breathing exercises or chanting and I even knew a yoga teacher. But then I got a book from a friend that got me more and more interested and I also started following some of the more famous yogis on Instagram. At that time I had some problems with my blood flow, with sleepy hands and feet all the time, so I started trying some poses that were supposed to be good for that and it really helped. I've been hooked ever since! I have to admit that since then yoga has always been more of a physical than spiritual journey for me, although of course the concentration and controlled breathing still add that aspect of serenity.

There are a lot of yogis here on Instagram that inspire me on a daily basis, in different ways. @saltlifepirateprincess, @studio_elvi, @ingvildyoga, @missbcross, @reganwarner, @the_me_im_counting and the two that tagged me, to name just a few! Maybe, if they haven't yet, they'd like to share something as well

suzyogi A (late) meditation picture for day 7 of #thekarmayogaproject. Learning to sit and meditate was arguably one of the most challenging experiences of my life. During my 200 hour teacher training we were instructed to sit and meditate for a half an hour each morning. It took me 30 days to be able to just sit still with my eyes closed for the full half hour. Seriously I would just sit and watch everyone find stillness and peace, sometimes I would count ceiling tiles . For a year, meditation was a constant struggle. I couldn't find rhythm or routine and the anxiety of missing my meditation put me even more on edge because I thought it was something I should be doing, not necessarily something I wanted to do. Finally I decided to let go of the "should" and to play around with my meditation practice to see what worked for me. By dropping my preconceptions and approaching my practice with curiosity I was able to find a way to make meditation something I enjoyed doing. It's now become a celebrated part of my everyday routine, and I look forward to dropping everything to focus on the amazingly complete mantra of the breath. Don't be intimidated, meditation is for everyone, but each person will have their own way of approaching it. Play around, be curious, and see what works for you.
