brianbanksfree During this part of the ceremony, I asked all exonerees to stand one at a time. I gave a brief description of their struggle: what they were wrongfully accused of, how much time they lost being incarcerated, and how long they've now been home. I then ask that they hold up their prison #. The # that replaced their name for so many years. "TEAR THAT # UP! And reclaim your name!" I lead the way, starting with my own. #XONR8 1w

giveabeat Wall of men put to death @manifestexhibit. When you get close you can see each image has their last words...Some say "I love you all" or I love you mom" some say "I am innocent" chilling and disgusting that California is still killing people. #endmassincarceration #endthedeathpenalty #xonr8 #manifestjustice #amnestyinternational #artforhumanity 2w
  •   amyelkinsphoto Thanks for sharing and taking the time to look at this work. Much appreciated. 🏻 #amyelkinsphoto #partingwords this piece represents Texas death row. But California does have one of the (if not the) most populated death rows in the country. 3d

brianbanksfree (L-R) Uriah Courtney, 8 years wrongfully convicted. Michael Hanline.........36 years wrongfully convicted. Myself, 10 years wrongfully convicted. @justinobrooks and Michael Semanchik, two of our attorneys responsible for saving our lives.
Meeting Michael Hanline came with so much emotion. Overwhelmed with happiness that he's home, but moreover pained by his 36 year struggle. He's been home less than 2 weeks. Now the real struggle begins, trying to find your place in this world when the world once threw you away. It is a surreal feeling. A feeling few have experienced, yet few too many. When I look into the eyes of Uriah and Michael I see myself. I see the many faces of injustice. Even though they smile in the moment , I know what haunts them. My only hope for us all (especially Mike) is that we find peace within, and the will to make the best of what is left. Thank you @ca_innocence for saving us, believing, and for your noble work. #XONR8

giveabeat Letting the love in and the sadness out. This is how our #housemusic community copes with social injustice. This is Jordan at Sunset Sunday in the #lbc. Conversations going on in the background about how to help people who are experiencing oppression by police right here in LA county. #endmassincarceration #banthebox #xonr8 #standupforyourrights. 4w

brianbanksfree We walked out of that courtroom, all of us. People in the hallway that weren't even in the courtroom could feel the air had shifted. I was being congratulated as I walked down the hallway by complete strangers. Along with my family and friends who showed, a crowd formed around us as we walked into the free air. This would be the last time my family and I would ever have to cry under this cloud. #XONR8 4w
