k_einhobbit × This is non-fandom, but do people really think that? I'm german and it really pisses me off how some still think about us. Hitler himself was just a human, one who made terrible things, but still a human. He wasn't just bad. The world isn't black and white. And not every german guy is a hilter. It is past. We moved on. What happened was horrible. And we should not forget this. You learn just by making mistakes. Germany made. And we learned. So please stop with all these comments. Thanks. ×

axis_and_allies45 Our Ancestral Heroes, No.1
••••••••••••••••
{Hartmann Grasser}
••••••••••••••••
The first of my new series that highlights one of your (my follower's) family members that served in either of the world wars.
First up is (Tyler Grasser) @treutyler 's great grandfather Hartmann Grasser, a fighter ace who served in the Luftwaffe from 1936-1945. A true hero no matter what your impression...read up!:
He was credited with shooting down 103 Allied aircraft while flying 700 missions.

At the beginning of the war, Grasser was serving with JG 152 and, during the Battle of France, shot down a French Curtiss H75, which marked his first victory over an aircraft.
In June 1940 while serving with I./ZG 52 Grasser claimed two victories in a Messerschmitt Bf 110 during the Battle of Britain.

Oberleutnant Grasser participated in Operation Barbarossa and shot down a Soviet Tupolev SB on the first day of the invasion of the Soviet Union. Grasser was appointed Gruppenkommandeur of II./JG 51 on 4 September and received the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross for 29 victories.

On 24 January 1942, after achieving his 45th victory, Grasser was shot down in his Messerschmitt Bf 109, sustaining a severe eye injury. However, he was able to bail out, landing behind Soviet lines and eventually reached German forces. In November 1942, Grasser was assigned to command II./JG 51 in North Africa. In Tunisia, he added 12 more kills, increasing his total to 103. Grasser was awarded the Eichenlaub (Oak Leaves) on 31 August. On 28 April 1944, he was appointed Gruppenkommandeur of III./JG 1 and in December 1944, was assigned to JG 110.
At the end of World War II, Grasser was handed over to the Soviet Union and was imprisoned until 1949. Grasser's views on military service radically changed after his return from Soviet prison, and he swore to never again wear a military uniform. He traveled to India in 1949 to train civil pilots. In 1950 he became an advisor to the Syrian Air Force. After his return from Syria, he began the manufacturing of industrial pressed parts made of steel. Grasser died on 2 June 1986 in Cologne and was buried in his hometown of Graz, Austria.

the_ww2_gallery Wunderwaffen X

You thought the Tiger was a beast ? Well this is a giant ! The Panzer VIII, ironically called 'Maus', is, still today, the heaviest fully enclosed armoured fighting vehicle ever built. Suggested by Ferdinand Porsche to Hitler in June 1942, the 'Maus' was to be the giant crushing the enemy lines.

The Panzer VIII was intended to be both the shield and the sword of the attacking force. Armed with the 128mm Pak 44 AND a coaxial 75mm gun, it could unleash a tremendous firepower ! But the 'Maus' was victim of its own qualities. To sustain the enemy defensive power, the front of the hull was 220mm thick, and the sides and rear were up to 190mm ! The turret was even thicker, 220mm at the front, 200mm at the sides and rear. For comparison, the IS-2 frontal armor was 120mm thick.

Accordingly, the 'Maus' weighed 188 tonnes, forbidding it to cross some bridges. The turret alone weighed 55 tonnes, the weight of a Tiger I ! Powered by a 1200hp engine, it could only reach 13km/h (8mph), but it was surprisingly agile, having a shorter turn radius than the M4 Sherman. Only two prototypes were built in 1944, and the use of one of them for the defence of Berlin is still controversial. The V2 prototype was destroyed in Berlin to avoid capture, but V1 was fund by the Soviets and is now on display at the Kubinka Tank Museum. Other posts of the serie can be find at #wunderwaffenww2.

  •   alfanaga 188 tons of monster! Leopard and M1 Abram only about a third of this beast -,-" its main weapon even bigger than Sovyet/Russian tank. Only if WW II last longer several years there would be a huge technology leap. 1h
  •   schutzstaffel1939 The funny thing with this tank is that it could not cross most bridges because of its weight. So, engineers would have to add support to the bridge, or the tank would go through what ever was under the bridge, whether it being water, mud, or anything. 1h
  •   vin_octane Rare photo 1h
  •   erhanulanerhan E100 would be more deadly with its 150 mm gun 1h
  •   joachimdeutsch One of them was found at the OKW (Wehrmacht HQ) in Wünsdorf, where the current visitor parking lot is situated. The whole place is mind-blowing and very impressive. :) 33min

  •   ipetkoskaa @rahellaaa The world is more and more falling down and this 21st century won't change anything. Politicians might have gone to universities, made studies, it seems like they're came out more stupid. #nonsense 5h
  •   rahellaaa They are all fake! Especially the US, the most undemocratic nation in the world. Who attacks every country, trying to condemn everything they are doing in order to stop them in their evolution. Imposing them sanctions because they don't respect human rights, while the US is the number one of abusers... The system is a joke! Too many innocents are killed for the benefice of those criminals! #fuckthesystem 4h
