photo: @stevewinterphoto I shot this photo in India’s #Bandhavgarh National Park while #onassignment for @NatGeo. Thanks to @NatGeo's Photo Engineering department I was able to get this shot without endangering my life using a camera mounted to a remote-controlled “toy”car. Although none of the images shot with that camera made it in the magazine, we had a fun time toying around with the gadget. Check out my Facebook page for a video from that day to see other outtakes.
While on the subject of tigers, I want to share yesterday’s news about India’s tiger population. The National Tiger Conservation Authority of the Government of India (NTCA) published the results from their 2014 tiger census and they estimate India’s tiger population is at 2,226. The 2014 census covered more regions and used better technology than previous years so it’s hard to compare to the 2010 population count of 1,706. Regardless, more tigers means more hope of survival!
As NTCA’s report states, “future of tigers in India depends on maintaining undisturbed core habitats for breeding tiger populations, habitat connectivity and protection from poaching of tigers and their prey.” The organizations listed below all have on-the-ground projects that front-line tiger conservation. Every dollar donated to these organizations goes towards those projects, so If you wish to help tiger conservation efforts consider donating to one of them:
@NatGeo's Big Cat Initiative: www.CauseAnUproar.org
Environmental Investigation Agency
Wildlife Protection Society of India
WildAid

For the last several nights you sat on the second bench at the park. You had noticed a man sitting on the last bench, he had been looking up at the stars then would hold his head in his hands. Small sniffs came from his direction. Standing up you walked in front of him looking away from him; as you held out a tissue to him. "I won't look." Kotetsu looked up surprised by the small gesture. He took the tissue rubbing his eyes "Thank you for-" Kotetsu was dumbfounded to find you gone. He smiled looking up at the stars.
The next night you sat at the same spot, you noticed the man wasn't there. "I wonder if he's okay." You gaze up at the stars getting lost in your thoughts. "I am. Thanks you." A voice said catching you off guard. You jump in startle looking in that direction. Kotetsu stood rubbing the back of head feeling embarrassed. "Sorry. I didn't mean to startle you. Um... Thank you for the tissue. It was a nice pick-me-up." He gave a small smile. "No problem. Glad I could help." You smiled back reassuring him. He extended his hand out "I'm Kotetsu kaburagi." You gently take his hand. "It's nice to meet you." #shortstory #kotetsukaburagi #wildtiger #hero #kotetsu #anime #tigerandbunny #kotetsutkaburagi #tiger
