tinesemb This is a special one... A French bio/nature-cider - without alc.: la Ribaude's Jus de Pommes Artisanal, Pétillant Biologique - "Vive la Fête!" (Oh, what a nice subtitle; "Let the party go on!" Or, more directly: "Long live the feast!"). This is a sparkling cider made from apples from the Normandy-territoire (Pays d'Auge) by the family-run la Ribaude, ninth generation! The label itself speaks of passion; handmade paper, nice gestaltung. And we like real handicraft. So, the taste: First of all I was surprised, even though I did not quite know what to expect - a French •clean• cider; quite a paradox, I thought. I hoped for a taste of real apples, not too sweet, nor to sour, but balanced and hopefully fresh. Like biting an apple. And perhaps some notes hinting at fermentation, despite the lack of alcohol? This was all partly true! It definitely did taste apple, picked from a tree, a warm summer day. But that notion also reveals that even though the taste was fresh, it was a bit too warm, and slightly too ripe, perhaps? In my opinion this batch is a bit too sweet. The sparkles help, though. Except from the sweetness, I was impressed by the structure and character of this cider, of its complexity - and that is important to drill a bit: As the cider naturally lack what the alcohol brings - distinct notes that got to do with the fermenting process etc. - it still reminds of "storage" (basement/cellar), and yellow straw, even a tiny drop petro, and yet it is very fresh. (That said, even though it was served with pancakes slightly draped with a few drops of maple sirup, it won the sweetie-pie contest.) Worth a try, though. And it makes a stand at the table. I have not yet found this in Norway, but you could get it in Sweden. #biocider #cider #cleancider #laribaud #frenchcider #vivelafete #vivelafête #alcoholfree #alcoholfreedrink #naturewine #longlivethefeast 2mon
