torinwoodworking Had an amazing weekend at @centerformetalarts with instructors @handforgedinvt and @openeasy The class hand forged 2 lb rounding hammers. I got a few extra swings in and made a touch mark and the butchered 2 1/4 lb rounding hammer on the right. Very happy with the results thanks to the excellent instruction. #handmade #forged #blacksmithing #toolmaking #woodworking 11h

floriptoolworks A fun part of building tools is having the option to use non traditional materials to create something out of the norm. Here is a carbon fiber backed saw I messed around with today, I really like the amount of feedback from the saw. I wish it wasn't such an abrasive material to cut. Next "exotic" saw will be sporting all titanium. #handtools #handsaw #toolmaking #carbonfiber #stripedebony #oneof 15h

Today is my contribution a pencil holder made for forestry and timber works. Made from nickel plated brass, has two kind of chucks, of which one holds a thick hexagonal pencil lead ( 7/16"), and the other end holds a common pencil. This is size No4.
Made by the firm "Skogsinstrument" in Mora, Sweden, which was established in 1927 by Anders Matsson Jr (1881-1959) and was running until 1974.
The town Mora has a long tradition of clock making and blacksmithing and in the middle of the 19th century the worker´s skills in fine mechanics were used in development in other finer metal works.
1875 started Anders Matsson ( the older) and his brothers a small firm at home in Kråkberg, for making fine mechanics. Anders had earlier worked on a sewing machine factory in Mora and even their father Mats Larsson was working as a clock maker and blacksmith. Later were they mainly producing tools for forestry.
And Anders Matsson Jr, who is mentioned earlier, nephew to Anders Matsson( the older) establish his toolmaking in 1927.

floriptoolworks I only ordered enough beryllium copper for three marking gauges because I wasn't sure how they would turn out and the material costs a pretty penny. I finished these last night along with a couple others that use a stainless rod and will be emailing those people that have express interest in purchasing one. #toolmaking #markinggauge #berylliumcopper #nasa #woodwork #woodworking 2d

jj_rides Catching up on some really small hobs we use here at #theGEAR. I use a 1954 Barber-Coleman hob sharpener to do these small ones. Some of the hobs themselves that we have are from the early 1950s and we still use them. Pretty Neato. 😬 #machineshop #hobbing #BarberColeman #toolroom #toolmaking #machinist 4d
