npeeters "I'm at the darkened hillside and there's a haze right between the trees. And I can barely see you. You're like an ocean in between the waves." Saw these guys last year @RockWerchterFestival. Hugely underrated band, but with this record they created one of the best albums of the past ten years or so. Favourite tracks: Red Eyes & An Ocean In Between The Waves. 1d

  •   vanislandvegan @_organicgoddess 🏼 AGREED. The cycle has to stop somewhere. Compassion is MANDATORY if we want change. People have to accept that yes, humans have shitty things happen to them, and those shitty things can affect those people later on in life. 24h
  •   vanislandvegan @_organicgoddess thanks again for those comments, you and your mind! Brilliant 19h
  •   _organicgoddess Speciesism is the root. It's where all other hatred and discrimination begins. Speciesism is the very first of the negative 'isms' we're taught. Straight from birth, we watch our parents and the people around us hurting, abusing and eating some animals whilst cuddling, caring and keeping others in our homes to live aside us. We're then force fed bits of their bodies and indoctrinated into treating animals differently. Desensitised and kept away from behind the scenes. Then comes sexism, racism etc etc. How can we move on and evolve from this polluted shit brained way of being when we lack compassion, connection and empathy towards living souls cause they're inside a furry body with floppy ears and a snout...children don't want to naturally harm anything that has a heart and a brain. Something goes terribly wrong as this child grows if he/she does want to do these things. And that's being falsely taught a way of life that is unhealthy on so many levels, deeply indoctrinated to have foundations of their beliefs saying it's ok to harm and kill for pleasure. I'm pulling my son out of school and home schooling him. The stuff they learn is fucked. They have an overweight unhealthy unhappy person teaching them about the body and nutrition atm, guess what's on the curriculum....dairy is healthy and we should all consume it and dead animal flesh is perfect and needed for human growth they've got to start them young and brainwash um as early as poss! So they grow up to be obedient, compliant, good consumers @vanislandvegan I love having convos with you! You're so amazing and a breath of fresh air! Love yi 13h
  •   vanislandvegan @_organicgoddess it's crazy. I just look back at how I was raised and how pretty much almost everyone around me was raised, NOBODY KNOWS BETTER. And then you think "how long has this crap been going on in my family? How many more generations are going to stay ignorant?" And all the subtle things that are actually really really big things, like how going to the zoo is just "going to the zoo", I never really thought about the animals and how unnatural it is for them when I was a little kid (who does?)...and the family holidays, we always got a 25lb fucking turkey, can you imagine how big and beautiful that bird must have been? Never once thought about where the turkey came from or where it lived. But I've also realized that through the years, I've also had little indications here and there that kinda tell me I was going to turn out vegan (maybe) or I knew things weren't right. Like how on the highway trucks full of animals would pass us, I would always look away or hold my breath until they passed because it always felt so wrong. Or when we would zoo and I would be the only one commenting on how the Bears were pacing and how they must feel so trapped. Little things. You kind of pick up on it and realize it later. But all these things we are brought up to believe are normal and no big deal...very disturbing. A lot of work is needed (when the solution is simple). Love ya, at least you get me 10h
