benwsumner The Smoke, Tower records 1968. Original, man. Yeah. This album was also pressed on Sidewalk records, and indeed this has a Sidewalk cover. The label is Tower, though. Both labels were Capitol subsidiaries, so I suppose there was a wee mix up somewhere. I understand the Tower issue is rarer. Dunno. What I do know is that this LP is fantastic! It's beautifully put together sunshine psych with great tunes, gorgeous production and killer arrangements. It's a post-Pepper imaginative classic along the lines of Chad & Jeremy's "The Ark" and The Moon "Without Earth". The genius behind this album is Michael Lloyd, who I believe was also in The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band at one point. This great Smoke LP is not unlike those great WCPAEB LPs either, but this is less lyrically satirical and more orchestrated. I love this album: "Odyssey", "Gold Is The Colour Of Thought", "October Country", "Looking Thru The Mirror" and "Self-Analysis" are all peaks in the 60s soft psych scene. Oh, Kim Fowley co-produced, but I suspect he supplied the money, and probably the drugs. Highly recommended! #vinyl #records #vinylrecords ##vinylcommunity #recorddigger #nowspinning #vinyligclub #thesmoke #michaellloyd #kimfowley #sidewalkrecords #towerrecords #psychrock #softpsych #sunshinepop #1968 2d

mylifeislikeanisland In a previous post the other day, I mentioned Bucks Fizz in an effort to explain two pairs of abandoned shoes outside Molly Meldrum's house in Richmond. Like I unknowingly disturbed some #bucksfizz god, yesterday at the #opshop, there they were. I made my mind up not to purchase this, but it does perhaps highlight that you should be careful what you wish for and who you talk about. Today, I'll wear white and will be super sweet to everyone I meet in an effort to appease.

sacred_vinyl Smokey & His Sister "S/T" Warners Brothers Records 1968 | Well i figured since i was floating on such a big soft white ️ yesterday after listening to that ultra charming Michael Konstan album over and over that i'd stick to and present you guys today with another soft pop KILLER! Smokey & His Sister is a brother and sister duo from the mid west who after fate chance meeting with Bob Dylan after one of his gigs decided to pack it up for the bright lights of New York City. They were quickly swooped up and began recording a album for Columbia Records that sadly was shelved at the time and recently reissued by Sundazed Records. Smokey and Viki after the bummer of getting the album shelved bounced back quickly and went over to Warners Brothers and cut this ultra GEM! This is one of the most twee 60's pop albums you may ever hear. Belle & Sebastian filtered through tiny midget fairies voices kinda comes close to capturing the vibes within. Seriously though it's a really sweet earnest soft folk pop album with great subtle hooks and lots of that lovely 1960's magical whimsy. Lush strings back simple acoustic plunked guitar while the sublime bro/sis co~ed vocals float above is a soft haze. "Sausalito Bay" opens up in a bouncy pop ode to that place all the tourists go to over across from San Francisco. It sets the tone for the rest of this low key affair. Viki has a strong beautiful voice and Smokey sounds like some British bloke who is just hitting puberty. That sounds like a put down but it's far from as i adore his sweet twee vocal stylings. "For All Intents And Purposes" showcases his quant delivery perfectly. Smokey sounds so modern that you may forget quickly that this album is actually from 1967! "Welcome To The Mighty East" is POPBLISS! A super catchy keyboard line propels this groovy pop groover. "Lonely Together" is a strong standout to my ears with it's smooth slightly jazzy soul folk groove and Smokey's voice melting into Viki's like organic cream cheese on a toasted everything bagel. "Dancing Lights" is the closet thing you get to a rocker with it's Phil Spector meets sunshine pop style groove. This album is seriously such a CHARMER! Float away on a soft ️! 1w
