andyjacobs The St. Louis Arch or the Gateway Arch, formally known as the Jefferson Expansion Memorial, commemorates the launching point of the famous Lewis & Clark expedition from St. Louis, Missouri to the Pacific Northwest and back. Along the way, they studied wildlife, vegetation and geography and interacted with the indigenous people, then brought their findings back to President Thomas Jefferson, who had commissioned their expedition. If you ever have the opportunity to visit the city of St. Louis and tour the Arch, I would highly encourage it. It is truly an engineering marvel and a beautiful structure, a fitting way to symbolize the Gateway to the West. 15h
