bstin_fitness12 Abs "How long/often should I train abs?" "What exercises should I do?" are common questions. There's no definite answer, but let me break down how I do it.
HOW OFTEN: I train abs pretty much every single day for about 5-10 mins. My abs almost never get sore, so I see no reason not to train them every day. That's how my body works, not everyone should hit abs every day. If they do get sore, I take a day or two off and let them recover. Hitting the abs when they are sore is quite uncomfortable if you ask me. So do not do abs every day if you get sore often!
WHAT EXERCISES: Pretty much every ab exercise you've ever seen or heard of, I do it. I like to do a wide variety of different exercises so that I am targeting all parts of my abs. I hit the upper abs, lower abs, obliques, and serratus from all angles. I feel that if you want the overall package, you have to hit all portions of your abs. It's not about how many reps you're doing, it's about the quality of each rep. If it's burning, it's working.
SideNote: I've always had decent abs whether in prep for a contest or not, but when I am dieting for a contest, my abs get extremely shredded and 3D-like because I train them well. They say "abs are made in the kitchen, not the gym." Eh... Well if you want to reach your maximum potential.... they're made in both.
