imviditchawla We get 'Comfort' from those who 'Agree' with us;

But we get 'Growth' from only those who "Do Not Agree with us.

the_art_of_science If the sun were to burn out this instant, we would not notice until 8 and a half minutes later. Why? Light has a fixed speed at approximately 300,000,000 meters per second. If light from the sun were to stop coming, the light released just as it burned out would take 8 and a half minutes to reach Earth traveling at that speed, or c (the speed of light). In this light cone, the coordinate plane represents space, and the vertical axis represents time. The cone is light traveling through space as time moves forward. The point at which the past and future cones intersect is the "present" relatives to the point in space at which an event happened. As the light cone expands into the future, it reaches other points in space. If we were to have an object two units to the right of the event, because the light cone takes a certain time to reach that object, that object would say the event happened at a different point in time since light traveled through time to get to that object. In conclusion, time is different for different points in space because light takes a certain amount of time to reach objects to cause us to see things. This, my friends, is the basics of The Special Theory of Relativity. I hope this wasn't too confusing.

blurredimage77 Who are we? We find that we live on an insignificant planet of a humdrum star lost in a galaxy tucked away in some forgotten corner of a universe in which there are far more galaxies than people.

gavitron41 My man, Carl Sagan. "In science it often happens that scientists say, "You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken," and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion."
