queensdistance #francerun8k was a huge success! As promised, we sent our loudest members to cheer our team in Central Park! We ran from Jackson Heights to Central Park and prepared our lungs for a scream session!
We celebrated French culture and got to enjoy some tasty treats after the run! Our very own @marie11201 frenchie came in as the 12th Female and 2nd in her AG!
Congratulations to all runners and fellow running clubs that ran for France today! @airfrance @nyrr @nyinstarunners @dashingwhippets #france #centralpark #queensdistance #8k #results #newyork #team #thecrew #queensborobridge

  •   runopia Hi @queensdistance have you considered posting your runs on the Runopia app? It's a great way to make your runs visible to others, engage your current members, and totally simplify organizing and managing runs. The team feature is a great one you'll love. It allows you to create a team, aggregate team data, share team info via social media, and enables you to communicate with the whole team with one tap of a button. We would love to get you on the app and help you get the most out of it. Cheers :) 7h

nybuffymeister There was a time when crossing the Queensboro Bridge, into Long Island City you would be overwhelmed by the intoxicating aroma of freshly baked bread.
The Silvercup Bread bakery was built in the 1920's, at a time when this area of Queens was greatly expanding it's manufacturing base.
It became a popular brand, for over 4 decades, and marketed well, much the same as Hostess' Wonder Bread. ........After all, television 'astronauts' like Rocky Jones: Space Ranger, and everyone's favorite kimosabe, The Lone Ranger, sponsored and presumably enjoyed countless loaves of the enriched white bread. ..... Due to conflicts with the Teamsters union, Silvercup closed operations in 1974, with the loss of over 600 jobs.
The large complex of buildings was later purchased to transform the bakery into a film studio, which began operations in 1983.
The Silvercup name and marquee sign were retained, as the movie/TV studios marked a renaissance to the area, with LI City becoming a desired place to locate. Closer to Manhattan than Manhattan.
But, if one dark and rainy night, you are traveling across the Queensboro Bridge, and you happen to catch the aroma of freshly baked bread. Beware. "Your next stop, the Twilight Zone."
