moveandplay How is the quality of your chin ups. Are you really chinning up? Ok, so let's improve it and actually follow through the entire movement with more scapula development. (Modified version)

1. You must retract and depress the scapula in order to achieve more muscle activation (focus on the muscles being worked)
2. Keep shoulder back on the up phase (depressed and retracted)
3. Continue to keep scapula retracted and depressed when above the bar (don’t let shoulders round over) Why? Because it can lead to injury if you continue to do it wrong.
4. Aim is for the chest to be on the bar, again with your shoulders back, scapula retracted and depressed.
5.Reverse the movement with control and repeat for multiple reps. Aim for 3-5 sets of 5 reps with tempo of 3121--The video is sped up to fit the video, I was working on a slightly different tempo-5252.

Note: Most women and weaker individuals should concentrate on lat activation (big muscles in the back) work first, or will forever rely on their upper arms, teres major and subscapularis for the pull ups and neglect lat development.

  •   moveandplay Hence the intro and my note of caution but thank you and you're absolutely right. I wouldn't mind them Jedi chin ups if it could catch on . I learned them from Ido Portal, and he didn't provide a name just to focus more and retract- when it comes to doing a good muscle up on rings you will start to utilize more-I like to use these to prepare in advance and focus primarily on the false grip and transition later.. Learning curve is much better this way and any other transfers-scapula development is very underrated and most important @muscle_up_jarvis 5h

  •   muscle_up_jarvis @moveandplay he's definitely a master of movement. I prefer the gymnastics approach to strict muscle ups. For example keeping torso vertical with no lean at the transition point. A full strict muscle up on rings should involve no press. At its finest a strict MU should be a full lat pull throughout the entire movement. I agree 100% with you that straight arm scapula strength is definitely under rated and left out of many forms of fitness. 4h
