#devotional #presidentcarter “She got a papyrus basket for him and coated it with tar and pitch. Then she placed the child in it and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile.
EXODUS 2:3

Moses was born to Hebrew slaves. Because Pharaoh had ordered the death of all Hebrew baby boys, Moses’ mother put her infant son in a waterproof basket and hid it in the reeds along the river. Pharaoh’s daughter happened to be walking nearby, and when she saw the basket, she retrieved it, found the baby, and adopted him. And so Moses grew up as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter.” Excerpt From: Carter, Jimmy. “Through the Year with Jimmy Carter.” Zondervan, 2011. iBooks.

  •   jrlono “As an adult, Moses secretly killed and buried an Egyptian whom he had seen abusing a Hebrew slave. The next day, when Moses rebuked two Hebrews for arguing, they responded, “Who do you think you are? We saw you kill the Egyptian yesterday!"
Instantly Moses fled from Egypt to Midian, where he saw some Egyptians abusing a group of shepherd girls. Moses helped the girls, and as a result he met their father and eventually married one of his daughters. Moses spent the next forty years tending sheep in the desert.
Moses therefore spent four decades learning about Egyptian culture (and about the plight of the Hebrew slaves) and then another forty years learning about the desert and how to survive in it. These things probably didn’t seem especially significant to him at the time; but later he would use his skills and knowledge in serving God and God’s chosen people. His time in both Egypt and Midian was part of a divine plan to prepare Moses for a special assignment later in life.” 4d
  •   jrlono “Even though our lives sometimes seem strange and trying, we should remain open to the possibility that God is preparing us through difficult times for a specific task in the years ahead.
O Lord, I am grateful that you included the story of Moses in your Word and especially how you prepared him through trying circumstances to become one of the Bible’s greatest heroes. Help me learn from Moses and realize that I can have a life of fulfillment, joy, peace, adventure, challenge, excitement, and success as measured by the standards of my Savior, Jesus Christ, in whose name I pray. Amen.” 4d
