tri_nutrition_ Staying hydrated while living with #Crohns, #colitis or chronic #diarrhea isn't just necessary... It's essential! But it means more than just drinking water.

We need #electrolytes to actually HOLD the water in us. Electrolytes are ions in solution and help keep water in our bodies, like #magnesium, #sodium, #potassium, #chloride. While our GI docs are quick to suggest #Pedialyte or #Gatorade or #powerade to get us through a flare, these are really high in #sugar aNd can throw our #insulin and hormones completely out of wack. Reach for no-sugar-added coconut water (it's chocked full of potassium!), or make your own celery-grape juice, or make your own electrolyte drink:

MAKE YOUR OWN ELECTROLYTE DRINK: 2tbsp pure maple syrup or #honey 2 pinches of grey Celtic sea salt or pink #Himalayan salt (these salts are chocked full of minerals compared to your ordinary table salt)
2 pinches of non-aluminum baking soda (can you believe they add #aluminum to regular baking soda ? It keeps it from clumping together... I'll take the non-aluminum , thanks)
2 cups filtered water
1/4 lime or lemon, juice (extra minerals, flavour and alkalizing #boost ) 1. Combine all ingredients.
2. Decorate with organic #berries, #lemon 🍋 or lime slices, #cucumbers and fresh #mint leaves.
3. Consume #postworkout or if feeling thirsty.
Note: if you're in an #ibdflare , this may not do the trick to hydrate you(this is something you never want to play around with!)... Definitely chat with your doc about therapeutic #rehydration salts... They're your electrolyte-replenishing and hydration-at-its-best Gold Standard... Though #autoimmunepaleo bone broths make a pretty sweet second
