danbannino On Saturday we've officially closed our campaign, sharing Rothko's portrait and his incredible story. It's amazing how you people helped and supported our project, even if we didn't reach the final target, we did a lot for our fluffy friends.

At the shelter, all the dogs had their vaccinations paid for the rest of the year and the owner had the chance to make an insurance to guarantee a partial refund for all the veterinary bills. We gave new strength and hope to all the people that is working for our dogs and now they're even thinking to improve their space with new cages and a better structure, helping more straight puppy like these. More important, 14 of our Poetic Dogs got rescued: now they're happily living with a new family!

Thanks to the power of internet, our friends from their cages in Turin (Italy) had been all over the world: France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Greece, Turkey, Czech Republic, UK, USA, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Perù, Colombia, Mexico, Japan, Australia, China, Korea, India and I'm sure that in the next few days, we'll get some more feedback around the globe!

On June, I'll have my first personal exhibition and it will be in Venice, during The Biennale of Art, where I'll show these portraits and maybe some more. If you'll be in Italy this summer, I'll have the pleasure to meet you in person and to introduce you to my buddy Rothko: you're all very welcomed! I've had even the chance to meet great people during this journey and to make new cool friends over Facebook and Instagram.

Starting from today I'll print all the materials for our supporters and I'll ship it as soon as I can, so for those of you that financially helped Poetic Dogs, you'll have a little something to keep at home.
I'm working on new exciting projects, don't worry I'll keep you posted and I'll be always glad to personally reply to your interesting (and funny) comments.
Maybe we'll see our Poetic Dogs next year, you'll never know.

Once more: THANK YOU!
Best wishes to you all.

danbannino For those of you who have followed me and my work so far, you probably already know my buddy Rothko: he is the only reason why I've embarked in this project and the only one to thank for all these dogs and stories we brought to you so far. It's with his story and his portrait that I'd like to finish our Poetic Dogs series, hoping you'll enjoy this final story, looking forward to start new adventures with Rothko always on my side. Enjoy!
On March I've rescued Rothko from the kennel, I was a little bit scared about how much my life could change, and I never had a dog and I always dreamed about it. When I saw him it was love at first sight: the day after I signed all the papers for the adoption and I started to cry like a baby. My fluffy friend was six months old when he was found in a roma camp in the south of Italy, in a very poor state. The local police decided to send Rothko up north, where kennels have more room to take in rescued dogs. He stayed at the kennel a few weeks before he met me. Being very sick and not eating a lot he'd been a huge struggle for me: big medical bills and a lot of effort to make him feel like "at home". Rothko was scared of everything (even his tail) and when eating he was trying to hide his food everywhere - scared someone could steal it. Now he's amazing: he loves every single human being, my family knows him as the "nephew", he does a million tricks as he's super clever and learns very fast when trained. He loves to play and thanks to a thousand hours spent in making new noises and teaching him not to be scared he even started to "protect" me. Shortly after his adoption, I realized how many dogs are in the same condition all around the world and how a single adoption could change their lives and help supporting the situation in a dog shelter. People, consider visiting your local shelter, you can get the chance of your life by saving a puppy.

danbannino Girella is a wonderful dog. Even if he is small, messy and noisy, he has a weird way of looking you deeply in the eyes that makes you feel like you did something wrong, even if you didn't. He is a rumble-maker, and sometimes it feels like he rejects any kind of rule, always roaming around and seeking for some sort of daily inspiration, new adventures and new friends. I think he would make the perfect sailor's dog, and that's why when I saw him and the way he interacted with the rest of the kennel I immediately decided that he had to be Conrad. He is still looking for a family, but I think that he will always be this wonderful adventurer dog even when he'll finally find his safe harbour. #dogs #danbannino #poeticdogs #perros #pet #puppy #art #adopt #rescue #instadog #indiegogo #shelter #kennel 1w

danbannino Cesara was just a few weeks old, when she was found with her mother almost drowning in a river, trying to reach the shore. The day I met her I didn't notice where she was at first: her mother was barking at me from their cage, while she was at the very bottom of it, shy and scared. It was just with time and patience that Cesara came closer, always on the side of her mother, and little by little started to feel better and more brave. By the time I took her photo she was totally in love with me, asking for cuddles and playing with my shoes laces. I can tell you now that she's still up for adoption, grown up a little bit but still terribly sweet and shy. Please share and support our dogs, FOUR days only left!

Normal Dan Bannino
danbannino Hey folks say hello to Shelly, the next dog from our fluffy crew.
A big inspiration for this photo came from Shelly's eyes, reminded me of the author best known for Ulysses, Mr. James Joyce. He had his own Odyssey, mr Shelly: last year he was found on the street, thin, starving and eye blinded.
After the first check-up, they understood that there was nothing to do for his eye but luckily he soon got better and I can assure you that when we first met in June, he was even a little bit overweight.
With Valentino (Baudelaire), Tanino (Cervantes) and Nespola (Twain) he's one of the few dogs free to roam around the kennel, thanks to his great behaviour. During the time spent toghether, Shelly was standing in our studio waiting quietly for some treats; for the final shoot, he weared proudly a tie, a hundred times better then I would do!
Today after a few months in the shelter, Shelly has found a new family, forgetting his past and forgiving humans beings, giving us all another chance.

danbannino Axl is a big bulldog with funny eyes, like Monsieur Jean-Paul Sartre. He was brought to the shelter by his previous owners, because he was becoming a problem, in fact as the years passed, Axl was getting bigger and bigger. If you know bulldogs you probably already know how sweet they can be with their way of walking and their noisy breathing. After the first three years his owners decided to take him to the shelter, begging for help, since they were expecting a baby and Axl was getting messier and bigger.
The first few days in the kennel were terrible of course: he was sad and spending his time lonely at the bottom of a cage, without eating and almost killing himself of hunger. After a few months one of the volunteers decided to rescue Axl and take him home with her. Our four legged friend is finally happy again, his messiness is now his signature and Axl's new family loves him the way he is. We took this photo some time after he got adopted and our meeting was really fun: at first he tried to destroy my camera and equipment, but eventually we become friends and we get the final picture!

uapoetrycenter Impossible to overstate how much we adore this project "Poetic Dogs" by Italian photographer Dan Bannino, in which he poses shelter dogs as famous writers such as Emily Dickinson, Edgar Allen Poe, and Charles Baudelaire. RG @danbannino: Super happy to start the year by seeing our #poeticdogs featured on #Mashable! --->#danbannino" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://mashable.com/2015/01/01/shelter-dogs-dressed-as-writers/#:eyJzIjoiZiIsImkiOiJfMHB2cWs5YjV3aW1lbWl5dSJ9#danbannino #super #happy #newyear #regramapp 2w

shelteredproject Here's another super creative way of promoting dog rescue thanks to @danbannino. It's called #POETICDOGS and it sees adopted dogs paired up with their famous writer counterparts in a unique and fantastic photographic project. From Shakespeare to Twain these dogs have found their match. Money raised goes towards helping dogs find homes! #adoptdontshop #petrescue #rescuedogs #opttoadopt #adoptdontbuy #adoptapet #adoptadog 2w
