#LateCoffee #Reading #Christianity #PaulCopan #Apologetics 3mon

tota_scriptura Had the neat opportunity yesterday meeting and discussing with philosopher Dr. Paul Copan. It was very generous of him taking the time out to talk about theology, epistemology and one of his latest books as well "Is God a Moral Monster". Enjoyed every insightful moment. #Apologetics #PaulCopan #Theology #epistemology #IsGodAMoralMonster #Philosophy #tbt #peter315 9mon

eyeonapologetics Paul Copan on the relativistic worldview 2y
  •   timothywbrown @portealmario, how can it be objectively meaningful depending upon the definition. How meaningful is defined doesn't matter. The problem with relativism and what your putting forth here highlights the systemic contradiction that the relativist must live with. You want what you say to be accepted as objectively true, but at the same time hold that truth is relative. Sorry can't have it both ways. 2y
  •   portealmario @timothywbrown two things. I do not want what I say to be held as objectively true. Second something can be objectively AND relatively true; the two terms are not necissarily mutually exclusive. I don't know if all truth is relative, but at least some of it is. 2y
  •   portealmario @timothywbrown I do think that statement of a persons thoughts can be unoversally true 2y

dylnjhnsn So excited to start my new job. So excited for what God will be doing this year. Also, the Hobbit comes out in less than two months.
#paulcopan #belknapsprings #brommunity #foodforthought //The more plausible context or scenario is that human value and moral responsibility come from a good God who created us intrinsically valuable, morally responsible creatures. We function properly when living morally. We glimpse something of a personal God in the world's moral order: without a personal God, no persons would exist at all. If no persons would exist, then no moral properties would be realized in our world. // Paul Copan

reuvenathaniel What #PaulCopan has written is a significant contribution to Christian apologetics, tackling an enormous issue: God in the Old Testament. One by one, Copan brilliantly answered each accusation of mysogyny, genocide, xenophobia (among other controversial issues) and succeeded in turning every argument in his favor. I cannot recommend this book enough for everyone who has had their faiths shaken in the face of these seemingly insurmountable questions. #IsGodAMoralMonster #Christianity #apologetics #theology 3y
  •   reuvenathaniel @rondrummond1 yeah he definitely said that in this book. They're more open-minded and more reasonable. Even Quentin Smith and other atheists criticize Dawkins and his cohorts. But on one side, I quite pity them because some suggest that it was 9/11 that triggered their hate. 3y
  •   rondrummond1 @reuvenathaniel it was tbh becuz thats when they saw religion in general as a problem. but they only attack christianity instead of any other religion. only belief in God 3y
  •   reuvenathaniel @rondrummond1 yes although I must admit that they have incredible rhetorical prowess. They're very convincing even when what they say is irrelevant. And many people see God's sovereignity as "a celestial North Korea" to borrow a phrase from Hitchens. It's also unfair to think that Christianity is the same as Islam. I live in an Islam-dominant country and there's no question about it. 3y
  •   reuvenathaniel @rondrummond1 but you know these are the people we need to reach out to because honestly, the idea of God can be a very destructive weapon. Imagine using His infalibility to justify unjustifiable causes. These people are driving people out of Christianity. 3y
