kirri_white Habits never get eradicated or completely wiped out because, as all the new science of the brain has let us know, the neural pathways in the brain get grooved and grooved deeper and deeper.

And so, the more you’ve done something over the last 20, 30 or 60 years, the deeper the groove is in your brain. The habit is just a lot of different chemicals and neurotransmitters falling along the synapses and the pathways, firing one after the other in a particular direction.

I don't know about you, but I find that comforting. When you 'mess up', it doesn't mean you have failed. You're defaulting to an old way of being. To make a new way of being and living, of relating to yourself and others requires change. Who you are in relationship. How you are. How you speak. How you relate. Choosing your emotional state and developing resilience.

To actually become and act and be a different way takes knowing what you want to move towards. Not just what you want to move away from.

And YES - Instant results are great. But sometimes we need to stick with it, day in, day out. And we're not supposed to do this work alone.
