environmental_fun_with_nathan The picture here depicts a small dam in the Drayton Plains nature park. This dam has massive implications on this river ecosystem. It stops the flow of water which can disturb the ecosystems on both side; on one side the water level is formed into a type of pool and on the other side the water level is lowered. This disrupts any annals who live on the edge of the ecosystems as well as any algae that are downstream because the dam also stopped the flow of nutrients. #APES#wateruse#naturecenter#dam#waterflow 50min

environmental_fun_with_nathan Those little white things on the ground are cotton seeds. These seeds are extremely light and can be easily picked up by the wind. When that get picked up by the wind these seeds will eventually sink into the ground and grow into cotton plants. This method of reproduction can increase the biodiversity of an area. This is because the seeds can be carried far distances and if they land in a place without cotton and grow there that increases the biodiversity. #APES#biodiversity#cotton#seeds#naturecenter 55min

environmental_fun_with_nathan Nature reserves such as the Drayton Plains nature center are a superb way to preserve an areas biodiversity. Drayton Plains has a no fishing and a no hunting law. This provides a safe place for animals to live as well as a way for humans to stay connected to nature in a suburban area. Being a state park also reduces the amount of litter thrown on the ground because cleaning crews come and pick up any trash that they see, as well as fines if you get caught fishing, hunting, or littering. #APES#biodiversity#draytonplains#preserve#naturecenter 1h

city_light_church Hey #CLC Moms! Who is ready for another play date!? This Friday, we are going to the Troy Nature Center located off Coolidge and South Blvd. It has a dinosaur fossil play center, forest animals activity center, rock climbing structures and an awesome nature trail. Strollers are not allowed on the trails so bring your baby carriers, tennis shoes and kiddos of course for a fun adventure day. Meet us at the picnic tables at 10AM and bring a lunch to eat at the park afterwards. If you are interested in joining us or have any questions, contact Maria Murphy or Amber Olafsson. Can't wait to see you there!

darien_nature_center We need a name for our new Bearded Dragon. We believe it is a female, but it is difficult to tell when they're young.
