Before I became a #gymrat I wasn't much into exercising at all. Yeah, I would do a month of Pilates and then quit for 6 months. Or I would get into walking and go for a month or two with friends a couple times a week, but again, it was just 'casual', per say.
Finally after sitting around and doing nothing about my exercise for waaaay too long I decided I NEEDED to make a change. I still remember clear as day wanting to go check out the gym/sign up but I was SO scared. Yup, I remember driving around the gym and sitting in my vehicle for a few minutes, trying to build up the courage to walk on that door! I remember walking in, looking at all those people exercising and almost feeling embarrassed for letting myself get out of shape/the healthier lifestyle. I thought to myself, wow those people are amazing. If I could get to 1/100th of the "fitness people" they are I would be happy (spoiler warning: I am happy and I have done it and surpassed my expectations/goals)!
A day or 2 after I signed up I had a personal training session for about an hour. My trainer was just teaching me how to use the machines properly and making a workout for me to follow. Day #1 I pushed, pushed, pushed my hardest; that was a Saturday. I remember that evening laying on the couch watching hockey (naturally). It was November 28th, 2012 and I'm pretty sure I was in the most pain I had EVER felt in my whole life. I could barely move. It hurt to get off the couch, it hurt to sit on the toilet (tmi?!), it hurt to walk down the stairs, it hurt to do ANYTHING! But thankfully I was determined to do what HAD to be done. I told myself, "Mandy- you CAN do this, you HAVE to do this!" And I'm so glad I believed in myself!
Unfortunately I can't say every day has been easy and I've never wanted to quit. No, that's not true at all. But I've kept on pushing through and I'm so proud of myself and so happy!
I look back now, almost 2 years since I began faithfully going to the gym, and I have stuck with it ️ ! And heck ya, the reps that felt like my arms/legs/shoulders/abs were gonna fall off back then are now like, what- that's crazy- it's easy now!

aimskyy Yes, not about the dogs. I'm sorry . Here is my progression story. Before moving to Hawaii 3 years ago I was a sad 95 pounds (left photo). After moving to Hawaii I decided to change. I did my research and realized I needed to change my diet and eating routine. I also starting to lift weights and saw a great change(top right photo). Then life happened. I lost a job, I had acute acid reflux, and being away from my family hit me hard and stress took over my life. I lost everything I gained. In between then and now I was in and out of the gym but lost my motivation with my progress. A few months ago it just hit me. I went through a lot and realized I was my own worst enemy. So I started my 5 day routine in the gym again. Now I weight 110 and I'm quickly getting back to where I was and I don't plan to stop there. This is for those of you who lose motivation, it's okay. Life happens and to you naturally thin girls who want more weight, it can be done the same way someone who is over weight can lose it. Just don't forget to focus on yourself and what makes you happy.   •   aimskyy @rawrward89 haha I'm 110 but I rather weigh 115 with muscle. I hate cardio lol and since I can't keep weight on I try to avoid it. But I really should do it because I get tired way to easily when I run or hike. 2d

  •   rawrward89 Girlllll I wish I was that small. Since 7th grade I been between 135 to 150 my body make up is ridiculous. My mom ans dad have thighs so ive always been body heavy. But people who are of African descent gain muscle faster because of our genetics. Ive seen mixed kids come to the gym and the moms who are white are like my child is fat but when you see them they are solid like they have such good lean muscle build. But for me I was a cardio junkie and now I wana build so ive been seeing really quick results especially in my legs. But thats good u have gained lean muscle.are u trying to compete? @aimskyy 2d

lizstarkkgetfit Part 2: I had always gone onto the elliptical a because I was scared of running on the Treadmills I just couldn't do it. And I was too intimated to even go into the weight room but I actually pushed myself and with the help of my roommates I started going into the weight room! I only used the machines no lifting or any sort of thing, but I learned a lot and I just kept going I was toning up loads but what I really wanted was to continue to lose weight and I hit a plateau again for a few months but overall throughout the year I lost another 15 pounds. This summer I decided to try Insanity again, and i did! I finished it for another round, I noticed how much I was toning but not much for losing weight so I decided to add PiYo which was just released this summer and I cannot believe that difference it made! I finished Insanity and even when this is my last week of PiYo the amount of sculpting in my body it's crazy. I lost 10 pounds with Insanity and the first month of PiYo and now I'm about to finish PiYo and I just started T25! my goal for this month is to lose the last bit of weight to reach my goal and this Fall I will make it my goal to lift! I am still learning about health but I hope with my story you all learned that it takes time, don't give up! Get started on this journey! 2w

lizstarkkgetfit Part 1: So I've been wanting to tell my story of how I started to get into fitness for a while now but wasn't sure where to start haha. Well this is it. To be honest I might say my journey started since I was in 8th grade, I was never overweight I was actually the "skinny one" in the family, I absolutely hated veggies and other healthy food but I barely ate anything. Everything changed when we moved to a different part of my city and I spent all my time indoors online or just watching tv. I come from a Hispanic family and mostly all of the food we are was greasy or "unhealthy" but as I was growing up I felt the need to eat more because I thought it was normal. Throughout high school I continued to gain weight and would try to hide it by wearing a sweater everyday (yes even the really hot days). Every summer I "exercised" for a few weeks but gave up because I became frustrated. It wasn't until I got to college that I realized that I needed to make a change in my body. If you ever heard of the "Freshman 15" then you know what happened haha. Yes it does exist and it did happen to me. Actually it happened really fast for me. I started school at the end of September and by the beginning of November I had gained 10 pounds, putting me at 210 (my highest weight) Crazy huh? My mom noticed and asked me if I had gained weight. I remember being shocked and that's when I started my journey. Starting November 17, 2012 I started going to the gym EVERY SINGLE DAY. Yes everyday. I managed to lose 20 pounds by mid December and then I hit a plateau. During this time I started incorporating salads and more healthy foods but I wasn't losing or gaining weight it stayed like this June 2013. Then I heard about a program called Insanity that was suppose to give you great results and I told myself I would do it. I started around June 23 and I lost 15 pounds and I know it didn't seem much to be when I weighed myself but I can definitely tell the difference in my body! I didn't exercise at all after I finished Insanity and then when school started again in September I went back to the gym. 2w

ericasquats Laid in bed with my ex. I made a selfjudging joke about my soft tummy as so many times before. But this time I didn't reccive the cute compliment in response as usual. He looked att me and honestly wondered "Why don't you just work out? I mean really work out. Why do you live with something that makes you unhappy everyday and that is acctually possible to change?" I've told this story to pepole, hearing them call him cruel and maipulating, but what it really was for me: an awakening. This change isn't done for him, it's done for me. breohbre_getfit Happy Friday! Today I had a successful Leg/Calves day. A little milestone I accomplished today.
The picture on the left was from my progress photos from January 2014. The one on the right was me this morning. As you can tell I'm wearing kooka shorts. I had bought them about two weeks ago and was terrified to wear them. But last night I just told myself "Yeah I may still have cellulite on my thighs and ass but I'm not going to look like this forever". I got over my fear this A.M. and wore them to the gym! Slow and steady progress on my lower body but I'm not stopping till I have the ass and legs I deserve.

breohbre_getfit Today was Back & Bicep day!
I woke up and decided to weigh my self as I have been eating pretty clean all week. I saw 170 on the scale and had to snap a pic. Only 10 more pounds to go and I am back in my previous pregnancy weight before having my beautiful daughter. I found it ironic that while I was doing Preacher Bicep Curls In This Moment (my favorite band) the song "Gun Show" came on.
Also please welcome my healthy newborn baby left bicep!

breohbre_getfit I can't believe it's almost been 2 weeks since I fractured my tail bone. I miss waking up at 4:30am and kicking ass at the gym.
But I'm taking some great advice and I am listening to my body. Eventually I will be healed, I just need to be patient with time.
