pakovska It's becoming a garden. I've planted my broadbeans out (late I know, but I have a strategy). After the broadbeans you can see a part of our fruit patch and the rhubarb. It ends with a peak onto our new asparagus bed, where the asparagus are growing happily. #sowgrowharvestfeast 1h
  •   la_la_allotment Tell us more of this late broad bean strategy! 48min
  •   pakovska @la_la_allotment Well, I have a huge problem with ants and aphids. I had this problem in my last garden as well. This garden seems to have even more ants (in all the colors of the rainbow). The idea with broad beans is that you sow them very early in the season (basically at the end of the season, in our case oct/nov). So that the plants are really big by now. This way the ants can't do too much damage, because you cut out the top which the aphids love most. Now, we moved in december to a new house so I couldn't sow my broadbeans directly last year. So I sowed them in pots somewhere in march or so. I therefore decided to keep them in pots until the flower buds formed. As soon as they start to bloom (probably this weekend). I'll cut out the tops of the plants. If I'm lucky I will get a proper broad bean harvest. If the ants are extremely hardworking, I might miss out on a harvest this year. That's the strategy (that I used a few years ago as well and it worked then). Sorry for the long story. ;) 38min
  •   la_la_allotment Thank you for taking the time! We have a similar problem so interesting to know 34min
  •   pakovska @la_la_allotment I'll update in a month or so with the results. Hopefully they are good. ;) 17min

lizkokkonen Day two of setting up my gardens done. Working with nature is the best exercise. Every year it is a major production... Not only do I claim more of the rock with buried logs and make bigger/ better beds with rocks but I am in the prowl for mulch .. Water grasses, ferns even pine needles. Whatever I can find. It's better to have my soil covered then worry how acidic pine are. #huglekultur #chickencoop #biomass #mulch #soillife 10h

uhzozplants Wuzzup #farmer and #veggie peeps. So lately here on #LongIsland we've been having some cold and nasty overnight temps and #weather, which has me a bit concerned #climatechange. The @evianwater tray ain't looking too hot, and I also put the brakes on planting the flats because it's too cold at night. Last year I planted in April, and here we are in May, nothing planted. That sucks. Anyway, I still need to finish the #irrigation system, but the hose timer and water supply tubing has been installed, and is working fine. What's left is building out a 4-zone #PVC or #PEX manifold (maybe 1 zone for each garden bed, or perhaps 2 beds on 1 zone... still debating and need to test for adequate water pressure in the #aquajet tubes), some hole cutting in the side walls of the garden beds for the tubes to fasten into, and then flushing, connecting, testing and correcting any mistakes before the mulch goes in. Spoke with the landscaper, we'll be needing about 100-120 cubic feet of #compost #mulch to cover the beds, and some additional mulch for the area we planted in last year (the backup farm in case this new experimental garden bed route doesn't work out--scroll through my pics from last summer to see what I'm talking about). Anyway, keep an eye out for more updates soon 😎🏾 6h
