bethyarnelleedwards Most of my photos have been made inside the #homespace and include the people who live there. When I spent a month at a #remotefishing village in #Iceland, I was surprised to find that residents were reticent to let a stranger into their home to photograph goings on. I’d already worked in four European countries and had always had more volunteers than time, but this was different. A community of 500 people has a very different dynamic. Everyone was pleasant, but only a few were willing to share their homes with me, and I didn’t want to push. I decided to work instead on landscape, something I’d never done before. In addition to the amazing natural terrain, I tried to shoot every house in the town, and since it was never dark, 2 a.m., when everyone was sleeping was a great time to work. I call this home #MirrorHouse because the #window reflects the #sky. The #mountain behind is called Spákonufell. The villagers climb it on the solstice every year. #NES #artistresidency #sky #clouds #Skagastrond #globalyodel @globalyodel #dickermanprints 1w
  •   mcubedphoto So interesting... Maybe as a culture (and speaking in a general sense, of course) the people of Iceland are very private. Who knows?!?! 1w
  •   bethyarnelleedwards @mcubedphoto I think it was just because of the isolated nature of the village. Everyone knows everyone, and they’re not used to strangers coming into their homes. Before leaving Iceland, I spent three days photographing in Reykjavik, and as usually happens, I had many more volunteers than I had time to visit. I think the experience was good for me. Though I love photographing people in their homes, it forced me to look outside. 1w
  •   mcubedphoto Aaah... I see. Yep, we just have to roll with the situation sometimes. And I am sure you got some wonderful landscape shots, as a result! 1w
