rashellkay What does your brain need to function? Place two fists together, with your inner wrists touching. Your #brain is about this size and shape. In contrast to the rubbery pink models we have seen, the brain is amazingly soft, composed primarily of fat and water. It is grayish and pudding-like - composed of 100 billion brain cells - called #neurons, that drive our thinking, learning, feeling and states of being. Neurons need good fats, #protein, complex carbohydrates, #micronutrients - vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients - and water. These nutrients are used to drive the learning functions of neurons.

A lot of people are focussed on glycemic index, and are missing the big picture, which is glycemic load.

Some people will tell you to stay away from white potatoes and watermelon, because they have a a high glycemic index. The reality is that a high glycemic index is no indication of a high glycemic load.

Case in point: watermelon has a whopping GI of 72 (higher than a coke) but a load of only 4. Why? Because of the fibre and time it takes to digest. Google “glycemic index and glycemic load” and you will see
some things that may shock you. For example, a 250 mL can of Coca Cola
has a glycemic index of 63, and a load of 16. The same amount of "unsweetened” apple juice, surprisingly, has a GI of 44 and a load of 30!

White boiled potatoes have less load than sweet potatoes (take that, Paleo peeps). Watermelon has less load than an apple. A snickers bar is "healthier" than some granola bars.

Do your own research.

There's lot of BS out there and I like to think if it's a whole food, Mother Nature has your back. Eat your fruits and veg, and don't get obsessive about it. Food is one of the great pleasures in life and parsnips and potatoes are not the enemy.
