chunkiestcastle One of the greatest pleasures I have in this life is discovering new music everyday. Another pleasure I have is sharing that new found music with the people I love so that they may also find the same joy and excitement that I found. With that in mind, I decided that for as long as I can, I will be posting my pick for Album of the Week every monday in the hopes that I broaden your musical horizon and enrich your life. Being that this is my first one, I though that I may as well pick my favorite album of all time, Mastodon's master piece, "Crack the Skye." The reason why I love this album is a very complex but rewarding answer. Just listen to the opening track, "Oblivion," and you can see how it immediately grabbed my attention. Brent plays quite possibly my favorite guitar solo on this track, filled with haunting atmosphere and remarkable feeling. The album then moves to the insanely amazing song, "Divinations," which opens with banjo solo. I mean come on, a banjo solo? Who does that?! I'll tell you who, one of the best modern metal bands of today. Overall, this album inspired me in ways I never thought possible, expanding my mind and lifting me to new hights. There is not a single weak song on this entire masterpiece and I love it. It has helped me get through some hard times, and is my go to record whenever I'm feeling down. The best way to listen is all the way through, start to finish, either while on a road trip through mountain ranges or while in your bed with your eyes shut seeing what kind of journey the soniscape and your imagination will take you on. #aotw #mastodon #cracktheskye #favoritealbum #metal 4h

darknightmusic229 Tomorrow is my (Adam Williams, operator and musician of Dark Night Music) birthday. I did this 20 influential metal riff project for myself and I thank everyone who was there for even a part of it. I hope youll stick around for more to come. I couldnt possibly even play every song im influenced by or include all that i can play that have influences me. I will be putting together a compilation of the 20 riffs into a video on YouTube. Here are a few runners up that i feel should get some videos and ill upload all 6 tomorrow including the last most influential riff from metals most influential band (hint its Metallica). #Thankyou #project #metal #followme #riff #allshallperish #thisiswhereitends #mastodon #remission #betweentheburiedandme #thesilentcircus #suicidesilence #thecleansing #anthrax #spreadingthedisease #heavymetal #music #influential #gojira #lenfantsauvage #metal #riffwars #instagram 6h

  •   jennajeanette what a sweet show! my first metal show ever! I was definitely due 6h
  •   daniborgir @jennajeanette oh really? that's a great first show for you then! Mine was a glam metal concert when I was in middle school. Hah. 6h
  •   jennajeanette nice! I've been to many shows but mostly terrible music back in high school (DMB) for example. lol. - I have however seen NIN, Circa Survive, AFI, and Coheed and Cambria...so I've seen some rock but never huge metal. I'm more of an electronic chick. lots of techno, deep house, trip-hop and good stuffs like that. I love music though...without it I would be dead! 6h
  •   daniborgir @jennajeanette I saw coheed, back in October of 2013. I've always gone to rock or metal due to my dad having me grow up on the basic roots of 80s metal. 6h
  •   hylianroyalty Awesome :D Just saw them with Clutch like 2 weeks ago! 4h
