monamansur.xo WEST ISLAND SISTERS HALAQA ------------------------------------------------- As-Salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakathu ladies!
Content:
Muslim women have always played a vital role in the Muslim community, and not only in traditional roles. Early Muslim women served the community through scholarship, teaching, nursing, & other important activities. The women who lived around the Prophet Muhammad (Salla Allahu alayhi wa Salam) & those who were influenced by his message served Allah and their communities with bravery and wisdom. This is why, we, as Muslim women, should look to them as role models. In order to do so, it is our responsibility to learn about them, about their personalities, their diverse qualities, their relevance in society and how they dealt with the many situations they had to face.
Throughout the course of the many Halaqat, we will be exploring the lives of these women together, from the Prophet's mothers, to his wives, daughters, & those who followed.
We look forward to going through this journey with you in hopes of it being both a learning experience, as well as a chance to strengthen the bond between us Muslim woman. -------------------------------------------------- WHEN?
We are happy to announce that a sisters Halaqa will be taking place every Friday at the CIC Al-Jamieh Mosque on Anslem Lavigne from 7-8:30pm in sha Allah. Halaqat will start this Friday, May 1st bi ithn illah. --------------------------------------------------PLEASE DO ATTEND. ---------------------------------------------------If you have any questions, please contact any of the sisters below:

givefoodachance In the spotlight: Give Local Foods A Chance. That's right, the centre of attention today is not this beautiful green salad (which was so good by the way) but rather what's written on the napkin next to it. "27 000 kilos des aliments frais servis proviennent de la ferme Campus Macdonald." For those of you who don't speak french this translates to: "27 000 kilos of the fresh food served come from the Macdonald Campus farm." Just like yours probably did, my mouth dropped when I read this. I knew that the Mac Farm made a lot of produce but I did not realize to what extent it contributed to the community! Twenty seven thousand kilos is ALOT of fresh produce and having done some more research on this, I discovered that the farm has expanded their horizons and does not only provide their produce to the Mac Market in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, but also to the Macdonald Campus cafeteria (which I've spoken about in previous posts), the Downtown McGill Campus and to various Farmers's Markets in the West Island region. Eating locally plays a huge role on your ecological footprint by reducing packaging waste for example but you also know where your food is coming from! When purchasing locally, you are almost guaranteed that the produce is fresh, of good quality and that sustainable practices were used to grow your food. Conclusion: I once saw a quote that said "sustainability is the only way to success." This being said, by making your practices more environmentally friendly and by supporting sustainable farming, you are not only making a healthier you, but the world around you a better place to live in. In my opinion, that is the best environment to be so that you can perform to the best of your abilities. 4mon
