lilmeezy_baby This is probably one of the last pictures I'll get of Atlas nursing. This picture is a few weeks old already. While we are still nursing, I feel our time is coming up. I get so emotional thinking about it, but it's true. We have made it to 23 months so far (Oct. 11), and I'm hoping we make it to 2 years, if not more! Between my nursing aversion and your love of food, you have dwindled down to once, maybe 2-3 times a day. While that may seem like a lot still, I can never let you nurse more than 30 seconds because of the aversion. How I wish daily I didn't have the aversion, but at the same time I can't be upset, because with the aversion came your sweet baby sister. It's the price we both paid, but the reward was a beautiful blessing. I'm very happy to have made it so far. I'm proud of you, of myself, and my body. Having been able to nourish you for so long has been an insanely bittersweet journey. We had a rough start in the beginning (tongue-tie, bad latch, sore sore nipples), but we worked through it together. At 12 months, I was already 3 months pregnant with your sister and already had my nursing aversion. Between that and your tongue-tie, I feared our journey was going to end. So around 12-13 months, we got your tongue clipped. The difference was wonderful, but I still had the aversion. I knew then I couldn't give up. So I pushed through it. And we keep pushing through to this day. Lately it seems the aversion has hit me with its worst though. Just the thought of you nursing makes me cringe. Not to mention, you've become a lazy eater loll, but I don't blame you. It's not your fault. It's not your sister's fault. It's not my fault either, though sometimes it feels like it. Aversion will do that to you.

Our journey has helped me grow in so many ways. I went from wanting to cover in public to realizing how silly of an idea that was for us. You never wanted to nurse underneath anything and who could blame you, we do live in Texas. I went from wanting to nurse a year, maybe a year and half, to two years. And then from two to three. And then from 3 to whenever you wanted to self wean. I went from thinking it was icky to nurse a toddler.. (continued in comments)

  •   lilmeezy_baby to looking forward to nursing one. I went from being afraid to nurse in public to nursing you almost wherever and whenever because you were hungry. Your needs were always put first because we felt that most important. You're the reason I'm such a big advocate for breastfeeding and normalizing it. You're the reason I grew and learned and opened my mind on so many things, besides just nursing. So while our nursing journey may be nearing its end, or if we're lucky to have a few more months, just know that mommy will always cherish these moments. When you're older, I will gladly tell you about them. I'm glad you will be raised in a manner that sees nursing how it should been seen, as something normal and not meant to be hidden. I hope that when you're older, you will support your wife in the same way your daddy supported me. Without him, this journey would of been a lot more difficult.

So we'll continue to nurse until one of us decides no more. And if it turns out to be me, just know that I tried as hard I could (I'm still hoping it'll be you though!). Thank you for helping me see the beauty in breastfeeding, Atlas. I will forever be grateful for it. This was the best option for the both us and I feel blessed to still be going. I love you so much, little guy. 4mon
  •   rubbinrooster This just brought me to tears. I hope someday your children can see this beautiful moment and appreciate what an awesome mother they have. Keep up the good work! 4mon
  •   lilmeezy_baby @rubbinrooster oh wow! Thank you so much. That truly means a lot. All I ever want is for my kids to know I did what I thought was best for them. That while I made mistakes, everything will always be for them. Thank you, thank you, thank you4mon
  •   lifeofgleasons I understand this so much! My aversion with my son is so real! I power through because my goal is 2 and he's almost 18 months. But some days I just cant nurse more than a few seconds. It breaks his heart which in turn, breaks mine. But as you said, with it, came a beautiful baby girl to add to our family. I applaud you for speaking out about aversion and for giving Atlas the best start at life 4mon
