whatmartereads I love reading this book! It's much more fascinating and exciting than I thought, and I love how we get to follow Kristin's life from childhood to adulthood! And it's set in the middle ages here in Norway, in a place where my grandmother grew up. So special! 4w
  •   whatmartereads @vegan.in.berlin I guess so, but it's just so much easier to order online. Just search for a book, choose which edition you'd like, pay and then, about a week later, you have it! It's even a lot cheaper when you order online! 3w
  •   vegan.in.berlin I guess that just makes me sad as a bookseller... but here all the German books cost the same per law so its the same price everywhere and most books we order arrive the next morning. 3w
  •   vegan.in.berlin when I lived I Copenhagen I bought 90 % second hand though because odds the crazy high prices. and in trondheim I only bought reduced books, the prices for new headcovers were shocking.. 3w
  •   whatmartereads @vegan.in.berlin If the bookstores had the books that I wanted, then I would have bought them there, but no, they basically only have norwegian and english bestsellers, and i'm not at all interested in that... 3w
  •   vegan.in.berlin sorry if I came across as interogating you, that's not what I meant to do. I was just curious. 3w
  •   whatmartereads @vegan.in.berlin no, no, not at all! I'm just tired of the bad selections of books here in Norway. 3w
  •   vegan.in.berlin I can understand that. Here in Berlin we have quite a few good ones but the chain stores and some others have such a boring selection, only bestsellers and only in German. 3w
  •   whatmartereads @vegan.in.berlin it's so annoying! 3w

jennifer_2582 I was so intrigued by the discussion of _Kristin Lavransdatter_ on the most recent #fountainsofcarrots episode that I immediately reserved this book at my uni's library. I still have SO MUCH work to do, but I'm taking a break & treating myself since I just submitted another draft . This is the first time I've read something for fun in a couple of years (pretty sad!), so I'm pretty excited. Oh and, yes, I am still wearing my pjs, but I've been writing all morning. I'll change for Mass this afternoon - promise! #microblog #readforfun #gradlife #gradgrind #saturdayafternoon #KristinLavransdatter 2mon

theskepticalreaderslibrary Latest purchase: Day 10 of #SeasonsReadings hosted by @penguinukbooks. I’m not exactly certain what I last purchased but these are the latest arrivals in my mailbox. I bought the 2 on the left (Pale Fire and Kristin Lavransdatter) and the 4 on the right are textbooks for next semester sent from my brother. #VladimirNabokov #PaleFire #KristinLavransdatter #PenguinClassics #Classics #VirginiaWoolf #GeorgeEliot #ElizabethGaskell #FrancesBurney #WomensLiterature #SigridUndset #PenguinDeluxe #Books #Bookstagram 5mon

janegmeyer My dilemma. Whether to slug on, or drop the book back in the library bin. Rarely do I abandon a book, but Kristin Lavransdatter is 1048 pages and I'm only at 497. I am interested in Scandinavia for many reasons right now, and this book is an interesting glimpse into a long ago world, but the description, and the names! Ack 6mon
  •   airagui I loved that book!! However I stopped about 100 pages before it ended and just scanned the rest! I thought that part of its slowness was the charm of following a person through their whole life... 6mon
  •   ariellegj Do you have the newer translation? Tiina Nunally or something like that? I adore that book and highly recommend you finish, but the translation makes a difference. I also found it helpful to have it in three volumes. 6mon
  •   janegmeyer Oh @airagui I've heard others say they loved it, which is why I continue to plod along. 6mon
  •   janegmeyer @airagui the translation I have is by some Arthur fellow. I will go on a hunt to find another version and carry on! Thank you for the encouragement 6mon
  •   airagui Yes, I read the Tiina Nunnally translation. Translators matter! Can't read Russian lit without Volokhonsky and Pevear!! 6mon

powerpuffkay As per @haleycarrots recommendation, I ordered this book last week. Then just yesterday, I read her full blogpost w more info stating it's quite hefty. Girl, you weren't lying! I didn't even know what the package was when I received it today, it was so heavy lolololz. But I'm not gonna say no to a #badass female protagonist, so here goes! 😎 #powerpuffkay #book #read #reading #fall #classic #kristinlavransdatter #sigridundset 7mon
  •   haleycarrots You got the good translation! Omg, it's so good. 7mon
