  •   georgeandcassie Good job! They are tough sometimes. Got any tips for mellowing them out? 1mon
  •   paulsjynx Sometimes the females will change after being spayed, since they're in heat more than not their hormones are raging and they literally have a nasty case of PMS. Males are similar once neutered but not as often. When we brought this one in I took my double decker kitty condo that has two doors and strapped a large dog carrier to the bottom door. This way she had her privacy and food, goes in the carrier, litter box and water on the flor of the condo. We put her up I this in our kitchen. In most homes the kitchen is the center of the family. Smelling good cooking, hearing laughter works just like comfort food does for humans. We can close our kitchen off from the rest of the house. After about a month she wasn't trying g to take my arm off when I refreshed food, water etc...so we started letting her out for a little bit longer everyday. At first she refused to cooperate and get back in her cage, so I would open a window and go outside, squirt her with a water bottle through the screen. That way she went back in and never knew it was me! It took about 2-3 months for her to trust us. That was 7 years ago and now she's a sweetheart. The secret is keep them caged til they know you're they're food source and learn we are not going to eat her1mon
  •   paulsjynx @georgeandcassie ^^^^ lol I forgot to tag ya'll. 1mon
  •   georgeandcassie Thanks! That is great advice. I asked because I don't exactly have a feral, I have a Ragdoll kitten who will be three inOctober. She was not socialized by the breeder. She isn't agressive, just very fearful. The most she does is growl, but our other two cats are lovebugs and I need for her to feel safe in her home. And comfortable. :( Makes me sad. I worked a lot with her on her issues of distrust and she came a long way only now to take many steps back because we were forced to move right after she became settled. I think I may get a cage... Can you tell me whatbrand your kitty condo is? Thanks so much for your help! The reason I followed you so long ago is that my beloved cats name was Jinxy. :) 1mon
  •   paulsjynx @georgeandcassie I know what you mean. We have three siblings that I trapped at around 3-4 months old. My wife wanted to try to socialize them without the cage they were spayed and neutered. That was six years ago. As soon as they started to hang out and not hide, we had to move. This set them back to the beginning. That was four years ago, in the last three months all three have been staying out and the two wildest actually will let my wife pet them. One still hides mostly except during the twice daily treats of chicken breast and hard treats. I believe that due to inter breeding, incest, that some cats are mentally ill and may never trust us. It's sad but they're better off with us than being turned loose to die1mon
