  •   happyatom There are all sorts of mosaic goodies hidden in the blue terrazzo floor of Kansas City International Airport’s terminals; but I particularly like this one. Embedded in the floor right in front of Starbuck’s in Terminal C is an abstract map of the airport.

    Red represents the main roads.
    Brown represents buildings.
Green is the prairie around the airport.
Dark green is the runways, taxiways, and service roads.
    Light blue is water. 4mon

happyatom I found this shot glass at an antique store in Hawai‘i, of all places, and I had to get it! #shotglass #MCI #KansasCityInternationalAirport #KCI #airport #airplane #red #retro 6mon

briguy1211 Got my Royals gear on today for work! It's crazy how the Royals being in the World Series has united and changed Kansas City. I heard recently that our crime rate has dropped 40% since the Royals went into the post season, and are now playing in the World Series. Hoping we can pull it off! This city will go crazy! 6mon

Kansas City wants to enclose their terminals. Fewer entrances and fewer TSA checkpoints. Sad! I will miss the convenience. Parking in the center lot and walking straight to the gate 100' from your car when you are hurrying.

briguy1211 5:30pm - Wheels Up

Flight 308 arrived from Denver this evening, and is shown here leaving Kansas City - with 132 passengers and five crew members aboard - bound for Indianapolis and Baltimore.

She started her morning in Orlando at 8:30am, as Flight 3489, bound for New Orleans, then continued on to Dallas Love Field, Tulsa and Denver. In Denver, she changed flight numbers and turned around for the legs to KC, Indie, and BWI. By the time she is parked for the night, she will have been flying for almost 13 hours, and will have flown almost 5,000 miles.

briguy1211 Unprecedented

Absolutely unbelievable. When I came into the terminal for work this afternoon, I had never, ever in 16 years with Southwest seen a line like this. What you can't see is past the curve in the terminal in the very back is about 100 yards more left of the terminal before it goes outside. That is where we come into work from where the employee shuttle drops us off. The line for the counter alone stretched to there - never seen the before - THEN double backed towards the counter. It flabbergasted me.

I was at work, here in this terminal the morning of September 11, 2001, and this blows it out of the water.

Since the Monday before Christmas, each day I've been at work has been worst the last. I didn't think it could get worse than the last day I work - Friday...but today blew that out of the water. People have been stranded for days. And days. And days.

I stood at my gate my entire shift without one single break. Not even a chance to go pee. None of my coworkers got breaks. There was still a long line, not quite this bad, when I left work. A steady stream of displaced passengers...that will continue to be displaced for several more days until we can get this backlog out of here.

I'm just numb. And mindblown. And awestruck. What exactly is going on?!

  •   briguy1211 @lkngirlie Thanks, Margie! It has...thankfully! This holiday season really sucked. I hate to admit it, but my job really takes the Christmas spirit away. I dread it every year with the craziness that it brings to the airport. 1y
  •   briguy1211 @sara40a Very! 1y
  •   briguy1211 @sparkylou77_ru Well, thank you, my friend!! If you're familiar with Terminal B at KCI, this was from the mezzanine level where the food court is above the ticket counter at Southwest. 1y
  •   sparkylou77_ru I know where your talking about! Your life working at the airport is almost like me working at the hospital, you have flight delay craziness and I'm currently dealing with the flu craziness at our hospital. It's so ridiculous, patient census is so high and everyone has the flu and now if employees are sick they have to stay home until they are completely well. I'm down 3 staff members now and it will only get worse. 😕 1y
  •   briguy1211 @sparkylou77_ru Yikes!! I've got two of my bosses out with it...they claimed it was the swine flu! (I got vaccinated for that in 2009.) This flu outbreak is crazy! Knock on wood, (::knock, knock::) our family has been stayed relatively healthy. But my wife and I are dealing with sinus crap. Hope you and your family avoid this! 1y
  •   sparkylou77_ru We are trying to stay healthy. I rarely get the flu, all we can do is wash our hand all the time and use sanitizer on everything. We wipe down our work stations every shift. We have had 3 flu cases at work that are so bad we have had two deaths and one in the ICU. They say this is the worse flu they have seen in years. Stay healthy my friend! You work around a lot of people too! 1y

  •   briguy1211 @rachel_nas Thank you! It was such an amazing scene...and a rare shot... I never had seen anything like this. Earlier comments, one of my friends explained it's called a sun pillar. 1y
  •   serg1892 So freakin' beautiful! 6mon
  •   briguy1211 @serg1892 Thank you so much! I'm glad you like it! 6mon
  •   serg1892 Was there some nuclear explosion or something?) 6mon
  •   briguy1211 @serg1892 Hah! Certainly looked eerie, huh? As I remember it was very cold that day, and I researched what this phenomena was... It's called a #SunPillar. It has something to do with the ice crystals in the air making the sun appear this way. I'd never seen anything like it before or since. 6mon
  •   serg1892 Oh,I just became a bit smarter ahah!Whatever it is,it does look fantastic! 6mon
  •   briguy1211 @serg1892 Well, thank you again! 6mon

briguy1211 Faces in the Crowd

In my line of business, I can see so many people in one day. Today, we have a smidge under 8,000 people flying out of Kansas City, on my employer. It's the post Thanksgiving Day holiday rush - a normal Saturday we have about 4,000 flying out. I usually have a good memory for faces and names, however, I rarely remember the passengers I process in a day. It's usually the ones that create problems that I remember. Thankfully, those are few and far between.

  •   katbep Hang in there! 1y
  •   lkngirlie God bless you Brian.. The service industry is very hard. I gave up a people facing job almost 27 years ago and have no regrets sitting in my cubicle! 1y
  •   jadeinthesky Awesome shot! And holy mackeral do I hear ya! 1y
  •   briguy1211 @katbep Thank you! I'm hanging in there! 1y
  •   briguy1211 @lkngirlie Tis exhausting... I've invested so much time that I would take a significant pay cut if I ever left...which I'm not planning on anytime soon! Sometime a cube would be a nice change though! 1y
  •   briguy1211 @jadeinthesky Thank you, my friend!! Insane weekend! 1y
  •   betbakk But cube life is so boring!!! This is a lot more interesting - hang in there. You seem to have a good attitude! But customer service is trying, 20 years with FedEx when I retired... 1y
  •   briguy1211 @betbakk Haha! True! Never a dull moment...but it can be taxing. 1y
