Kansas City wants to enclose their terminals. Fewer entrances and fewer TSA checkpoints. Sad! I will miss the convenience. Parking in the center lot and walking straight to the gate 100' from your car when you are hurrying.

briguy1211 5:30pm - Wheels Up

Flight 308 arrived from Denver this evening, and is shown here leaving Kansas City - with 132 passengers and five crew members aboard - bound for Indianapolis and Baltimore.

She started her morning in Orlando at 8:30am, as Flight 3489, bound for New Orleans, then continued on to Dallas Love Field, Tulsa and Denver. In Denver, she changed flight numbers and turned around for the legs to KC, Indie, and BWI. By the time she is parked for the night, she will have been flying for almost 13 hours, and will have flown almost 5,000 miles.

Excitement flying standby, working the agents that Daddy knew so we could get the last seat and oh the rush of getting our name finally called. I miss those days! So glad there are guys like you in the industry who get it and treasure it @briguy1211 7mon

briguy1211 Unprecedented

Absolutely unbelievable. When I came into the terminal for work this afternoon, I had never, ever in 16 years with Southwest seen a line like this. What you can't see is past the curve in the terminal in the very back is about 100 yards more left of the terminal before it goes outside. That is where we come into work from where the employee shuttle drops us off. The line for the counter alone stretched to there - never seen the before - THEN double backed towards the counter. It flabbergasted me.

I was at work, here in this terminal the morning of September 11, 2001, and this blows it out of the water.

Since the Monday before Christmas, each day I've been at work has been worst the last. I didn't think it could get worse than the last day I work - Friday...but today blew that out of the water. People have been stranded for days. And days. And days.

I stood at my gate my entire shift without one single break. Not even a chance to go pee. None of my coworkers got breaks. There was still a long line, not quite this bad, when I left work. A steady stream of displaced passengers...that will continue to be displaced for several more days until we can get this backlog out of here.

I'm just numb. And mindblown. And awestruck. What exactly is going on?!

  •   briguy1211 @lkngirlie Thanks, Margie! It has...thankfully! This holiday season really sucked. I hate to admit it, but my job really takes the Christmas spirit away. I dread it every year with the craziness that it brings to the airport. 7mon
  •   briguy1211 @sara40a Very! 7mon
  •   briguy1211 @sparkylou77_ru Well, thank you, my friend!! If you're familiar with Terminal B at KCI, this was from the mezzanine level where the food court is above the ticket counter at Southwest. 7mon
  •   sparkylou77_ru I know where your talking about! Your life working at the airport is almost like me working at the hospital, you have flight delay craziness and I'm currently dealing with the flu craziness at our hospital. It's so ridiculous, patient census is so high and everyone has the flu and now if employees are sick they have to stay home until they are completely well. I'm down 3 staff members now and it will only get worse. 😕 7mon
  •   briguy1211 @sparkylou77_ru Yikes!! I've got two of my bosses out with it...they claimed it was the swine flu! (I got vaccinated for that in 2009.) This flu outbreak is crazy! Knock on wood, (::knock, knock::) our family has been stayed relatively healthy. But my wife and I are dealing with sinus crap. Hope you and your family avoid this! 7mon
  •   sparkylou77_ru We are trying to stay healthy. I rarely get the flu, all we can do is wash our hand all the time and use sanitizer on everything. We wipe down our work stations every shift. We have had 3 flu cases at work that are so bad we have had two deaths and one in the ICU. They say this is the worse flu they have seen in years. Stay healthy my friend! You work around a lot of people too! 7mon

briguy1211 Faces in the Crowd

In my line of business, I can see so many people in one day. Today, we have a smidge under 8,000 people flying out of Kansas City, on my employer. It's the post Thanksgiving Day holiday rush - a normal Saturday we have about 4,000 flying out. I usually have a good memory for faces and names, however, I rarely remember the passengers I process in a day. It's usually the ones that create problems that I remember. Thankfully, those are few and far between.

  •   lkngirlie God bless you Brian.. The service industry is very hard. I gave up a people facing job almost 27 years ago and have no regrets sitting in my cubicle! 9mon
  •   jadeinthesky Awesome shot! And holy mackeral do I hear ya! 9mon
  •   briguy1211 @katbep Thank you! I'm hanging in there! 9mon
  •   briguy1211 @lkngirlie Tis exhausting... I've invested so much time that I would take a significant pay cut if I ever left...which I'm not planning on anytime soon! Sometime a cube would be a nice change though! 9mon
  •   briguy1211 @jadeinthesky Thank you, my friend!! Insane weekend! 9mon
  •   betbakk But cube life is so boring!!! This is a lot more interesting - hang in there. You seem to have a good attitude! But customer service is trying, 20 years with FedEx when I retired... 9mon

briguy1211 Emergency! Emergency!

Unfortunately, ambulances, firetrucks and police cars are not an uncommon sight at the airport. I've seen people die, heart attacks, births, strokes, blood, vomit, poop, and everything in between. Tonight it was a guy either drunk, doped up or both. Very strange scene at the counter.

My coworkers and I were talking, wondering if were the only ones that see this sort of drama. Maybe my Delta friend, @frogcic, down the concourse from me sees her fair share - and crazy stories?

briguy1211 Time to Kill

It's funny how people pass their time in airports nowadays. Most of us have got our heads buried in our phones, laptops, or tablets... Very few people actually pass the time talking to one another. I'm guilty of this myself...
11mon
  •   anuspice I prefer to "people watch". It's amazing how many people from different walks of life you get to see in such short span of time. It's fun to imagine their lives, what's going through their minds etc. Lol, call me weird :-p 11mon
  •   briguy1211 @insdianagram Very true! I wonder that too... 11mon
  •   briguy1211 @anuspice Well, if you're weird, so am I! I like to people watch and ponder too! 11mon
  •   suzysmileystuff I'm the nutter that tries to make conversation with people. Generally the older generation. I find them interesting with their memories and outlook on the world today. 11mon
  •   briguy1211 @suzysmileshots It depends on my mood... I was once on a flight from Baltimore to Nashville and sat next to a crazy guy who wouldn't stop talking or let me respond to his questions. I was running on minimal sleep, and was hungover... We both got off in Nashville, and we both had a layover. He was also heading to Kansas City. When we got off the plane, he waited for me... I dodged him and went the opposite direction... When I boarded the Kansas City flight, he was already on board and tried waving me down to sit next to him. I acted like I didn't see him and continued on further. Weird! I just wanted to take a nap and zone out on my music! 11mon
  •   suzysmileystuff I am that crazy person. Ha ha 11mon
  •   briguy1211 @suzysmileshots Well, I'd enjoy chatting with you! Plus I'm a sucker for British accents! 11mon

briguy1211 I dunno what I get more excited for...meeting my IG friends or meeting celebrities? I guess meeting my IG friends is like meeting a celebrity. Today, I got the pleasure of meeting @beccachell as she was changing planes in Kansas City today! She takes amazing pictures! Her and I have been following each other for about a year now and it's great to put a face to her IG profile and meet in person!

As always, my IG friends, if you ever run into me in real life - whether at the airport or somewhere else - stop me and say hi...and maybe pose for a picture for IG, of course!

briguy1211 My friend, @mragan, recently was a @southwestair customer and posted a great shot of New Mexico One this afternoon. While I was on my lunch break, I checked my IG and notice her picture. I then came back from lunch and, lo and behold, New Mexico One was parked at my gate! It's heading to Minneapolis tonight for its last leg... 11mon
  •   briguy1211 @babs09 Ha! KC has big malls too! Oh, wait, not that big! I'm actually thinking about flying up somewhere with my son next Wednesday. I thought about Chicago and go to the Shedd Aquarium...mainly because the L is a great way to get from the airport to downtown and back. But MDW can be a bitch to NRSA out to and back. MSP might be a good alternative. How is public transportation there? 11mon
  •   babs09 @briguy1211 the light rail runs from@the airport to the mall or downtown minneapolis. I've never used the buses downtown but I know a lot of people that do. Everything you'd want to do is pretty much within walking distance from a light rail stop and it runs every 7-10 minutes. The light rail doesn't go into St Paul yet but I recommend finding a way there. The architecture is beautiful and everyone has to eat at Mickey's Diner. 11mon
  •   babs09 Chicago used to be my favorite city. Now it's second to Minneapolis 11mon
  •   briguy1211 @babs09 Wow! Thanks for the info!! I'll take a look at flight to MSP and see if that looks better to get there and back! We're just gonna go up for a day trip and come back home later that day! Hoping his three year oldness will be easy going! 11mon
  •   babs09 Anytime! Enjoy your trip wherever the skies take you 11mon

briguy1211 Maryland in Missouri

Another one of Southwest's specialty planes spent the night in "The Paris of the Plains", Kansas City to non-Kansas Citians. She gets to sleep in and is taking our last originator out at 12:25pm, as Flight 1718. She's heading to the "Athens of the South", or Nashville, before turning around and heading to the "Captial of Second Chances", AKA Las Vegas. From there, she'll continue onto the "City by the Bay", otherwise known as San Francisco. In San Fran, she'll change flight numbers to Flight 2635, and head to Santa Ana, in Orange County, California (couldn't find any fun nicknames for that place). She'll change numbers once again, flying as Flight 2724, and will jet off to "River City", known as Sacramento for her last leg.

Maybe @bagstacker in BNA, @darla7614 in LAS, @marahownsyou in SMF, could grab pics and post of her as she is in your cities, if you all are working? Trying to see if I can collaborate with other SWA employees like I did last week. Wish I knew someone on IG in SFO and SNA...anyone else know of SWA peeps there?
11mon
  •   briguy1211 @marahownsyou Well, cool! If your non IG friend, or @jpitty23 can, this would be awesome! My new SWA friend in LAS - @seanlv5 - just grabbed it there!! Now, if I could only find someone in SFO, we'd have all the cities covered!! Thank you for helping me connect the dots! 11mon
  •   briguy1211 @lovinpurple Darn! Well, if she flies over your house, grab a shot of it!! 11mon
  •   briguy1211 @seanlv5 @darla7614 Thank you both for helping me connect the dots! Wishing we knew someone in SFO to cover that! I think I've for SNA and SMF covered...if it works for them! 11mon
  •   briguy1211 @holly_havok Blegh! Counter on a Sunday - difficult to break away at times!! Keeping my fingers crossed you can break away!! If your busy, are there any other SWA peeps that could? Anything you could do, I appreciate it! 11mon
  •   califloraniajen Sounds like a fun collaborative effort! I love stuff like this!! Good luck in pulling it all together!! 11mon
